It seems that Modnations is better in every way.

It won't kill Mario Kart in sales, but it in my eyes, it already killed it in gameplay and it will probably kill it on it's online play/overall replay value with the kart and track creation.
I've played the MNR demo, sonic all star racing, and mario kart wii back to back. So far the only thing that Mario Kart Wii has for it is it's battle mode (which wasn't good for Mario Kart Wii anyways. It had so much more potential), it's music, and it's characters/environments. Speaking of music, you can put your own custom soundtrack into the game. Basically the game will allow you to play w/e you're playing on your XMB bar.
If Modnation does not generate the sales and appeal of Mario Kart, it could not be called a "Mario Kart Killer."
thats seriously asking too much of modnation. sales alone wont be achieved, since mario kart is one of the top 10 highest selling games this gen. keep in mind this game still has legs.If Modnation does not generate the sales and appeal of Mario Kart, it could not be called a "Mario Kart Killer."

Just because doesn't kill mario kart in sales doesn't mean it can't be a better game. Anyways, this thread is going to be entertaining once more and more MK fanboys come in.
We get a kart racer that actually pushes the genre and it still gets compared to a game that it shouldn't even be compared to. I guess that means that no kart racers should be ever made anymore because it won't sell like mario kart and mario kart is the original one right

Its amazing how, lately, the secret to "genre pushing" game design is so simple. Apparently throwng in a level editor does the trick.
I mean, look at Little Big Planet, it clearly pushed the platforming genre into the future.
I actually think this is the first gen since the SNES days that Mario Kart wasn't surpassed by a competitor. Mario Kart 64 was surpassed in every way by Diddy Kong Racing, and Crash Team Racing was a better game as well. I also think Double Dash was inferior to Crash Nitro Kart, although I seem to be one of the few. Mario Kart Wii really seems to have gotten its act together with tons of content, addicting gameplay, and a great online mode. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing was a great game, but it just wasn't as interesting as MKW. I've put about 430 hours into MKW so far, and 45 hours into Sonic Racing (which is still a lot).
I haven't yet played Modnation Racers but I'm glad Sony gamers finally have their own karting game for the first time since Crash Team Racing.

I think it pushes gaming itself rather than a specific genre. You can give a game a deep level editor, but if the game mechanics suck, it will do nothing to elevate the genre.
and everybody thought i was crazy for saying this was going to happen in another thread.
seriously MDR isnt a killer of anything its a solid game just leave it at that.
Everything sony makes is suppose to kill something else and never does, its really tedious hearing this.
There hasn't been a good Mario Kart game in a long time. It's dead all on it's own. Modnation racers is doing what Nintendo should've done.EmperorSupreme
They should have made LBP on wheels?and not a great MK in a long time there havent been that many made in MKDS owns all kart racers sales, and scores sorry.

it was highly influenced by the success of LBP seriously why else would they add a track editor its been done many times before, to ride the success of LBP its smart but why should nintendo do that when they already have something else thats more successful?...

So a level editor makes it lbp on wheels  yeah right... the art style , graphics and the characters look completely different. and who said anything about nintendo needing to copy sony? No.
The gameplay isn't nearly as fun as Mario Kart and the items should be a little crazier. That or just easier to use.

Lol,I couldn't help but laugh. There is nothing genre pushing about MNR I agree. It may be good but a track editor is not genre pushing. But alas, just as we have "MK" fanboys (who have atleast played the full games), our MNR fans seem to feel that its a "game changer", based off a demo and a comparison to MKWii. It is indeed funny.

secont the art style graphics is not that much different then LBP and arent sony's motto "connect/play/share" or something like that which started with LBP.
This is not a fresh idea from Sony they made a kart racer that was heavily influenced by LBP which is obvious. does it bother me?not at all LBP is an excellent game.

I hope you're not suggesting the game mechanics in MNR suck...Well, considering the fact that Mario Kart Wii has already outsold Mario Kart 64, I'm assuming you mean that no one can beat Mario Kart 64 in terms of a quality kart racing game. Well, Diddy Kong Racing has already surpassed MK 64nothing can kill Mario Kart 64.
me so sorry:(

I hope you're not suggesting the game mechanics in MNR suck...I'm not, as I haven't played it. I was merely saying that, for it to be genre changing, just having a level editor won't suffice.
I don't see why the 2 games can't live in harmony. If you like ModNation that's just fine. I personally think that the two shouldn't be compared due to the fact that one is geared towards user-generation than MarioKart's pre-made tracks.Just play the games you like and move on.
No.

I know people have their own opinion, but I like it when people actually state why the gameplay isn't as good. I feel that while MNR lacks variety in the weapons, it makes up for it in it's strategic nature. If you do all the things you are suppose to do when racing like drifting and doing tricks, you can constantly have a boost available and shield to block those blue shell like attacks. Also, I feel that the drifting is a lot better and the high speed of the game makes it a lot more fun. When I played Mario Kart Wii a little while ago, I felt like a snail at 150cc and the drifting doesn't even feel right. In addition, it felt lame that I couldn't side-swipe opponents that tried to get close to me like in MNR. The game also looks better and feel much more chaotic when you're racing in a group of CPUs.
Imagine how it will be online.

There hasn't even been a kart racing game this ambitious... except at it's core it's not pushing the genre forward. It's level editor/community features are certainly new and those deserve props as far as kart racing games are concerned. But the core gameplay you know the stuff that is going to dictate how good the game is or isn't. Yeah that's not anything new or pushing the genre forward. It's fun no doubt, but it plays like a Mario Kart clone(not that it should be considered a ad thing, it plays fine for the most part). Please Log In to post.
