Now i am not opposed to PC continuing to get support as time goes on, but PC should be an afterthought to the consoles. As in, if its not on a console, the game doesnt exist. according to intel fourty something % of video game $$$ come from PC

Edit: 43% percent

Today, PC gaming generates 43% of the total gaming revenue. The next closest platform is the Wii, which generated 24% of the total gaming revenue in 2009. And the PC share is growing – by 2013, the forecast is that PC gaming will represent 56% of the total pie.

No, we're getting great exclusives all the time, like starcraft 2, cataclysm, witcher 2, guild wars 2, TOR, Amnesia, Diablo 3. That's just off the top of my head.

While i was at best buy trying out the psMove i noticed that Mafia 2 PC had its own little kiosok standing out while the console versions were just in the normal shelves.

I've never seen many PC games at Gamestop, ever. Walmart, Target, most military exchanges, and Best Buy would be where I see many PC games retail.

Even if that is true (I'd like to see proof of this) That fourty percent is spread across how many different games?

Whats the last great game pc had? Starcraft 2. K

Now how many great games have come out this year that were worth a look on PC?

And of the great games on PC, which are ones are on consoles... and have sold better than their console counterparts?

In a way, it's down but not out.

My personal opinion is that we need to somehow convince Valve Software to bribe Tetsuya Nomura with buttloads of money so that he will make Final Fantasy XIII/Versus XIII, along with the third Kingdom Hearts on the PC.

It appears the world consumers disagree with you. I say this because of any number of articles online pointing to how PC gaming accounts for more revenue for key publishers than individual consoles do. I wont look these up, simply as you have stated no quantifiable facts in your opening statement. When you have actual numbers come back.

..

If you dont, the short of it is, that on average, based on cash money, your wrong. End thread, have a good day..

Depends on the genre. I like flight sims the most. That means PC. If they come to consoles then I'll play them on consoles too.

Seems like you're the one with the condescending attitude.

I have never seen a gamespot with computer games, the best buy in my town on the other hand is as big as the console isles combined.

The reason starcraft was a best seller is because its starcraft....

The pc also accounts for 47% of revenue, and it is expected to be around 54% in 2012

What exactly defines a "big" game? There are a crap load of Indie or small titles on PC this gen that I could play forever, like SoaSE or WiC.

Edit: btw what consoles have more that 2-3 big games a year. Without cheating, can you even name some exclusives that came out last year on PS3, besides UC2 and Demon's Souls?

God I hope not, I'm starting to get into PC gaming. I might actually buy more PC games this year than console. I do notice that it's hard to find them in stores, but most can be DLoaded from website. I don't think PC will ever die, it's always the frontrunner in tech. As the price comes down on hardware PC gaming is becoming cheaper. There is no 5 yr wait period between systems. I can always upgrade anytime. It's the most versatile system around. Though I hate the keyboard and mouse, I think when you get rid of horrible interface that is the mouse, PC gaming will triumph.

You do understand that you have to sell 4 times as many console copys just to match a single PC sale. Why developers like pc? Less cut into there gross profit.

Im not quite understanding this...

(Hypo numbers)

MW2 sells 1 million on PC

MW2 sells 2 million on Xbox

lets assume PC sales are ONLY Steam... no dev costs for DVDs

Xbox sales on on DVDs (lets say DVDs cost $5 each.... which is WAY high)

PC MW2 $50 retail

Xbox MW2 is $60 retail

$50 x 1mil= 50 million

$60 - $5 x 2mil = $110 million

Unless i am missing something completely there is no way it takes 4x as many sales..... That doesnt even makes sense.

Well, technically you are missing the share that microsoft and/or sony get which is like a 15% cut last time i checked. Then they have to pay for their *special cds* So, console the company actually is making around 43$ per copy.

PC games basically cost nothing to distribute, especially now that DD is becoming popular.

Also MW2 cost 60 dollars on PC.

Best games according to who?

I won't like there's a bunch of good games on Wii, X360 and PS3... but to say they have the best of the best?

Tell my why I have spent more time on multiplate games then exclusive... I have a PS3 and a PC by the way and also a Wii.

As for this gen there has been more great games on PC than the other three combined... Based on what?

And check Metacritic and Gamerankings.... The best games of all time seem to be on consoles... (based on reviews alone as this is tangible and opinions are not)

Best selling games of all time... Console

This gen... the best PC games have almost always had a Console counterpart. While i do like Mods, once they introduce this to Consoles... theres no reason for PC anymore (for me) as i will take confort and convience over slightly better graphics any day.

There is nothing hard about finding any PC game, simply nothing. If anything its actually easier to find any PC game as any can be downloaded (well nearly) and all it takes is a quick search. If your new to PC gaming you will soon get accustomed to M+K and you will see that it beats everything out there for complexity.

..

I love my console gaming, but the amount of PC gaming dying on this board is ridiculous. Its coupled with some sad made up facts that are never properly backed up. The facts are PC gaming is profitable, PC gaming is easy, PC gaming is alive, kicking, and doing things as often as the bunnies. It is here to stay for longer then most individual companies simply because it does not depend on an individual company. It adapts and changes, looks prettier and honestly is not as big a victim of the kid mentality that PSN and Live demonstrate...

Digital Distribution saves a lot of money for PC devs. Plus it's cheaper to develop for PC. After the store cut and publisher cut, the devs on consoles would probably see about half of the profit. The cost for DVDs, boxing, and shipping only cut deeper into profits.

Well I'll say.

It's "all", BUT "dead" :D

That's why I love it so much.

Whereas the big exclusives coming out for the 360/PS3 are either published by Sony, or MS, the PC just gets them because it's a thriving part of the market. In fact the PC industry accounts for nearly 50% of the video game industry. That's why third parties can put games out like The Witcher, or Crysis, or Total War, or Civilization, or Starcraft without jeopardizing their companies.

Do you see Ubisoft making console exclusives? No? But they do make PC exclusives.

Do you see Activision/Blizzard making console exclusives? No? But they do make PC exclusives (they also generate 70% of their profits from the PC, and are the largest 3rd party dev on the planet)

The idea that PC is dying is an idea without foundation. Nothing about the PC industry says in any way that it's dying. The worldwide recognition, the huge profit it generates, the insane amount of third party support it gets, the enormous indie scene, etc.

Vaasman

Ok sorry $60

But to say four times.....

Assuming it costs $0 to distribute an PC game it would have to cost $45 to distribute one Xbox game for it too be four times.... This is NOT the case.

(Note: I have about as many facts on this as you do.... because we are both obviously in the game distribution business)

Here's gamespot's spreadsheet forjust this gen.

PC has more high scoring games than any of the other consoles.

As for this gen there has been more great games on PC than the other three combined... Based on what?

And check Metacritic and Gamerankings.... The best games of all time seem to be on consoles... (based on reviews alone as this is tangible and opinions are not)

Best selling games of all time... Console

Actually based on critical acclaim (gamespot one since this is what is counted on here), the best games are on PC. I think WoW alone negates your selling arguments and some of the best PC games this gen have been the Witcher, the Stalker Series, Dragon Age (please play this on PC before you judge it from a console experience), Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes and Total War Games, Dawn of War Games, and WoW. Throw in mods that literally change the landscape of games fully, throw in Multiplats that on a decent rig will surpass the console experience, throw in price (everyone thinks only of the Short Run capital investment and never of the long run, games investment that result), throw in graphics and what "facts" do you really have?

Seriously, am i really the only one who thinks that PC needs to get Final Fantasy?

If so, allow me to elaborate why we need it.

Final Fantasy is possibly THE most popular Japanese role-playing game known to man. If the PC was to have a Final Fantasy game that isn't badly ported or an MMO, the console fanboys will have to respect that we have one of their greatest gems. Heck, people might think that there's an incentive to get a gaming PC because it has what many might think would be "the best damn RPG". The long term effects might outweigh the short-term outrages.

If this is in response to my post, why is it a "mistake" if the idea of a PC port of a Final Fantasy game helps the PC get back on its feet?

Best selling game of all time? I'm pretty sure WoW alone is at 12 million and counting subscribers/buyers. It'll even get better now that China has allowed it access once again. Also pretty sure nothing has been more profitable than WoW.

One thing that consoles will always have over PC, platformers. I'll admit the idea of playing Mario with a keyboard and mouse would be akward at first, but probably even easier to control after awhile. Zelda on PC though would be too epic for gaming to handle imo.

Mods will never be introduced to consoles. Plus PC gets all the free DLC.

Slightly better graphics? CRYSIS/METRO 2033 PC PIX INC.

I know I'm going to get a TON of hate for this, but in my eyes:

Console gaming is like pop music stars like Lady gaga, Kesha, Justin bieber, etc. They will always be the most popular and most played on the scene, therefore has the most profit, most listeners, etc.

PC gaming is like the Indie/underground rock/Metal of the music industry. It will never be as popular as the pop side of the music industry, but has a lot more content and occasionally a band will top the charts for a week, then go right back to being invisible to everyone else (any big release like Iron Maiden's Final Frontier for example).

Flame shield up :p

[QUOTE="Vaasman"]

PC games basically cost nothing to distribute, especially now that DD is becoming popular.

Also MW2 cost 60 dollars on PC.

ShuffleSe7en

Ok sorry $60

But to say four times.....

Assuming it costs $0 to distribute an PC game it would have to cost $45 to distribute one Xbox game for it too be four times.... This is NOT the case.

(Note: I have about as many facts on this as you do.... because we are both obviously in the game distribution business)

Actually it's not that unrealistic. With console games you have:

Royalties paid to console creator.

Cost of disc.

Store royalties.

Shipment costs.

And if you didn't publish your own game, then god help you because half the money from a game's sale goes straight to your publisher.

Here's a good chart showing how it breaks down.

With DD you can basically shave off Distribution, Platform royalty, and the retailer margin.

4 times isn't much of an exaggeration.

Even if the game costs $50 you still are making around $10+ more than a physical sale.

That is true to a certain extent. I like FSX and other flight sims the most because my field of expertise is related to aviation and weather. A substantial number of flight simmers are often pilots in real life or work in fields related to aviation just like myself.

I love the very detailed customization that comes with the game. This is the kind of stuff I crave the most:

or load real-world conditions into the game:
