The Xbox 360 already proved that.

Here is why PS4 has high sales than XBONE (But much lower than PC).
1. Its tiny handful of exclusives are considerably more casual. We are talking games that basically press X or Square to win. Movies. The one decent and possibly hard game it got (BloodBorne) did bad sales, casual ps4 gamers do not like that. Sony is mostly for non gamers and CoD gamers.
2. It has better version than XBONE multiplats, but much worse than PC version. People mostly play multiplats (most games are multiplats) so they go to PS4 as the cheap way to play the decent versions. A good PC is not as cheap as PS4 even I will admit. Casual do not care about playing at 15 fps on low in PS4, they just want to beat the game and move on to the next CoD. But marketing told them there is a big difference between xbone/ps4 multiplats, but we know they both suck.
3. It is now the CoDstation. It has no good online games. It's basically for casual COD dudes. That is going to be big sales.
keep lying to yourself.. ps4 has more exclusives and variety then the bone by a long shot
PS4 barely has any exclusives, yet it's decimating the other two consoles that have much more. Can we agree that PS4's strength is really in its third party and superior hardware? SW seems to place great emphasis on exclusives, but there is really no proof to support that. Am I right or am I right?
Have you looked into your inaccurate claim? The data and evidence with numbers of exclusives (and total library) suggests otherwise.
Surprisingly, the PS4 actually has more exclusives than you might realize (more than the Xbone), even if you don't like the exclusives offered.
If you ask me, both these new consoles (my Xbone and PS4) are dropping the ball in total exclusives that I care to play, however, I posted to let you know your information is incorrect. I'm also disappointed with this gen overall so far.
The information about numbers of exclusives has already been posted over and over and over in SW, so I'm just assuming you don't keep up on numbers (how many exclusives, how many games, etc). Which means you may want to create talking points on things you do keep up on instead.
My Wii U I believe I have the most exclusives in my home vs. my Xbone and PS4, but it helps Nintendo they rolled out a year earlier. That said, I fear the NX may steal some exclusives from the Wii U overtime.
/thread.

Get ready for the march of the cows and the more exclusives than X1, more total games than X1 and WiiU comments. @SolidGame_basic: It's interesting how Sony and Microsoft have pretty much switched places this gen- Sony now has the gamer favor, all the big third party timed DLC and marketing, and not as many exclusives as they did this gen. This is almost identical to Xbox 360 last gen. Now, Xbox is scampering to get some interesting exclusives, a lot of stuff they've never had before (Scalebound, Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves, Recore- there was really nothing like these on Xbox 360) while staggering behind in sales (like early PS3 days). It'll be interesting to see if the third party riding by Sony will backfire in the end for PS5, allowing Xbox to take the lead next gen by doing all the "winning" things right now (dropping kinect, getting a lot and variety of exclusives, backwards compatibility, ect)
Uhm you're wrong. There were JRPGs like Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon on 360. Scalebound is a JRPG. There was Alan Wake and American Nightmare on the 360 which is made by the same developers as Quantum Break; Sea of Thieves is a Rare game. On 360 there was Kameo, 2 Viva Pinata games, Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts by Rare; Recore nobody has seen an ounce of gameplay so I guess you're right there. On the others, what are you talking about?
Do people really forget about Watch_Dogs and Destiny? The hype for those two "real" next gen games? Those games probably sold about 5M-8M consoles a piece on their own.
Marketing is stronger than good games.
This is the truth. Don't forget Kinect. With $200 Million in Marketing, a company could literally sell cancer.
That being said, the PS4 isn't doing well because of exclusives or any particular 3rd party. It is doing well, because it has the best overall lineup in gaming - you can play ALL multi-plats and also all of it's exclusives, even if some of them are PS4//PC exclusives I think many are happy with the convenience of playing them on PS4.
Basically, it was the best $399 box when it launched - and right now it's the best $299* box. Don't forget that in the history of video games, most consoles hit their critical mass when they hit $199-299 - when parents get them for their kids.
*yes, I'm aware that some of the cheaper steam/machines alienware boxes approach this, and they might outperform the PS4 technically. I'm just not sure they are as "accessible" to parents.
@RoboCopISJesus: CODstation?
Seriously, if 1 game makes it the casual console or whatever you're getting at.....then the many more unique games make it just as hardcore....or whatever you want to call it.
This is a prime example of a hermit hating the PS4 due to be frightened of its popularity.

You're forgetting one thing, There was little difference in hardware performance between the PS3 & X360, there is a massive difference in performance and quality between the XONE & PS4. :-)
Exaggerate much? The difference between WiiU and PS4 is massive dude, hence why 3rd party devs don't put another team on making a WiiU version most of the time. The difference between X1 and PS4 isn't massive. That's why they do get the same big 3rd party games. PS4 ones have an advantage, more games than you are letting on had an advantage on 360 last gen. In the end if PS4 is massively over X1, then my PC is like a Godzilla sized shit over my PS4/X1.
Most of the gamer populace does not share the same mental standpoint as the crowd in these forums. It's mostly marketing and word of mouth, something Sony has benefited from since E3 2013.
You can easily see this point proven by looking back at last gen, and Sony's announcement of the PS3 console pricing. It affected them for, almost, the whole generation.

The difference between PS4 and Xb1 this gen, is actually much larger and more consistent in favor of PS4 than it was between 360 and PS3 last gen gen. Let's also remember that last gen was also a "game by game" basis - the PS3 hardware was basically at parity, and theoretically a bit more powerful. But it was obscenely difficult for some devs to figure out when simultaneously doing games for PC and/or 360. Becasue of that, PS3 versions were sort of all over the map with a few really poor versions.
I don't think anyone really cares, but with all the $@it alking Xbox fans did last gen over differences PS3 games running 644p or 702p or a few blades of grass - I think it's a little funny that these people all of a sudden are saying "no big deal" when a game runs only 720p or 900p on XB1 but can pull off 1080p on PS4. There are very few games that achieve true parity on XB1.
@2Chalupas: I never said the difference isn't larger and more consistent than last gen. The difference between PS2 and Xbox was bigger than 360/PS3. Bottom line is, if the difference between PS4 and X1 is massive, what on earth do we call the difference between PS4 and WiiU? PC and all of them?
I spin it right back around. I think its funny that last gen paying for MP was extorting money for something I already paid for but this gen its all A-OK Sony!!!

PS4 has far and away more exclusives, console exclusives, and timed exclusives than the Xbox One. A higher average Metacritic rating for them as well. So this discussion is pointless because your assumptions were flawed to begin with.
It's always been about 3rd party performance. Look at the 360. It nearly played every game better with more detail and steady frame rates and just less buggy in general when compared to the PS3. The fact that it had better exclusives than the PS3 is just a coincidence.
The PS4 has more exclusive but with the exception of a couple of games like Blood Borne, the vast majority of PS4 exclusives are garbage.
If you want quality console exclusives stick to the Xbox One and Wii U.
What quality exclusives on the X1?
Forza,Forza,Halo and Halo?
@MonsieurX: You forgot Sunset Overdrive. That is literally the entire AAE+ exclusive list, unless you count games out on other platforms.
Yes, multi sells consoles, the best selling games are multi. The majority don't buy every console, do not have time to play each one. Work 9 - 5, when would someone have the time? Exclusives help, but are only secondary factors.

Sea of Thieves looks to be a cartoony, first person MMO pirate game of awesomeness. That's nothing like the Kinect games Rare has been making for awhile, or anything close to Banjo or Viva Pinata.
I'll give you the Remedy one, but Quantum Break looks leaps and bounds ahead of Alan Wake and American Nightmare- on all fronts.
Scalebound looks like its going to be more than just a typical JRPG- it actually looks different than anything we've seen so far this gen.
@jcrame10: Just because Sea of Thieves is going to be different from Past Rare games on 360, and I never brought up the Kinect ones, doesn't negate my point. Rare made games that were new and different on the 360. Hence there were things like that on 360. Scalebound isn't a stereotypical JRPG but its a JRPG with hack n Slash combat and ordering a CPU companion to attack. I've done that on 360 in GRAW and Hack n Slash in Bayonetta and MGR all on 360.
People exaggerate about the 360 library being so bare of different experiences.
For me exclusives matter a lot. Why did I not buy a PS4? For various reasons, and one of the main one is simply because I'm a big fan of Xbox's established franchises such as Forza, and I knew I could not miss out on those.
Why am I seriously considering buying a PS4 next year? Because of Street Fighter 5, huge fan of the series so if it turns out awesome I might have no choice but to get a PS4(I know it's coming on PC, but I think the bulk of the community will be on PS4), otherwise I could care less about it - I'm very satisfied with my XOne and I have a huge backlog on it already.....I think the PS4 is a fine system, and as someone who owned PS1 and PS2, I mostly have positive experiences with the PlayStation consoles.
I usually roll with one console per generation, and just like I didn't really care about the OG Xbox when I was a PS2 owner (well, Halo CE did get a lot of my attention later on though), I don't really care about owning a PS4(or WiiU, or gamer PC) unless one of those platforms gets a game that I feel "I cannot live without". Yes I miss out on great games, but I have to make a choice somewhere and there isn't enough time in the day for me to play all the great games on all the platforms. I may be in the minority though, I don't know.

I think a lot of its reputation as being a bit of a 'shooter box' came from the couple of years between the release of the Kinect 1.0 and the release of the Xbox One. To be more specific, while the period before that had a range of fully Microsoft-backed titles- Alan Wake, Kameo: Rings of Power, Nuts and Bolts, etc,) AFTER the Kinect was released, in November 2010, their output during that period focused on Kinect-only titles to push the new hardware. Those who didn't own a Kinect, or weren't interested in Kinect games, found themselves with a bit less to choose from. In fact, the whole 'Gears, Halo, Forza' reputation came from the fact that at least half of their non-Kinect exclusive output was... well, Gears, Halo and Forza.
I of course wouldn't make so bold a statement without showing my work! I cross-referenced a list of Xbox 360 exclusives with a list of Kinect titles and individually tracked down any anomalous titles to get a handle on what they were, so unless there are holes in the data itself, this should hopefully be an accurate analysis. Anyway, looking at roughly a two year period after the Kinect was released, Microsoft helped publish at least one Toy Soldiers game that I'm aware of, while both Minecraft and Witcher 2 were brought over from PC. In addition, there was a remastered release of the original Fable, and there was a Kinect shooter game that I'm including only because you didn't technically NEED the Kinect, it was just designed for it. (Game was called Blackwater, I believe. Has anyone played it, out of curiosity?) So five titles that weren't part of what I'm just gonna call the Trinity. Meanwhile, during the same period, there was a Gears of War game, two Halo games, and two Forza games. Again, five titles. So fifty percent of the 360's listed exclusive output, including third-party exclusives, appears to have been from those three franchises. If we're just looking at first party, it's overwhelmingly Forza-Gears-Halo.
Anyway, if we extend this period to right before the Xbox One comes out, we can add State of Decay to the 'not-Trinity' list, which came out in June 2013. But then we also have to add Gears of War: Judgement, which came out in March 2013, so still fifty percent. =P
Keep in mind I'm talking about a period of time equal or greater in length to that which the PS4 and Xbox One have even been out, so it isn't really surprising that those two or three years might end up defining the console as a whole. Also let me reiterate I am talking about exclusives that were NOT Kinect games, as I'm talking specifically about the perceptions of the demographic who weren't interested in motion controlled Kinect games. Obviously anyone who loved them would have been perfectly happy, as there was a buttload of Kinect titles during that period, literally dozens. =P
Again, I never brought up Kinect. I don't know why you did any homework on that. My point stands. The 360 did have different experiences exclusive to the console. I am a 43 year old gamer, thank you sincerely but I don't need the history lesson.
PS4 barely has any exclusives, yet it's decimating the other two consoles that have much more. Can we agree that PS4's strength is really in its third party and superior hardware? SW seems to place great emphasis on exclusives, but there is really no proof to support that. Am I right or am I right?
Get ready for the march of the cows and the more exclusives than X1, more total games than X1 and WiiU comments. Take this fanboy stuff to heart a bit much?

Call it what you want. Doesn't make what I said wrong. Sony doesn't have to make many exclusives to outsell the Xbox or WiiU. MS fucked themselves out the gate and WiiU is a console real gaming purists and Sheep will buy not the average gaming consumer. And it does make perfect business sense for Sony to maximize the profits they are taking in by spending as little as possible (going out). The company is in massive debt and that's how you recover.
The one thing I would like to add to this discussion is that in the "real" world (that is to say outside of fanboy and systems wars) exclusives are a small part of it.
I'm sure people bought PS4's because they thought that Destiny was exclusive. Same for battlefront and to a lesser extent CoD. The general public that buys consoles have little to no idea what is exclusive to which console and just buy whatever their friends have or whatever the mainstream media spews out and tells them to buy. This gen it's the PS4. MS screwed themselves very early on and likely won't fully recover this gen, which is fine, they'll be back next gen.

Very true. In gamestop on post in 2011 I had to explain to a number of soldiers god of war is never coming out for the 360. Many who like to play games just don't give a shit about all this stuff people here argue about
Games don't sell consoles, marketing does. Sony has been doing a superb job in that deparment, with the PS4. Honestly, to me, apart from Bloodborne, the line up is completely banal and nothing in it justifies the amazing sales numbers. But the PS4 is in a magical marketing place where it can do no wrong; make costumers pay for Backwards Compatibility? OK. Show a remake and a kickstarter at E3? Wow! Keep on delaying games? No prob. And the list goes on. That tolerance towards anything related to the PS4 spreads to the press too. Sony is surfing that goodwill wave like a boss and I don't blame them. Why should they spend a ton of money when their console keeps selling even if they bundle it with a bag of coal?
With this I'm not saying that the X1 has a much better lineup, just saying that games have little to do with why they sell so much, even if the fans like to think that. One year ago, the PS4 was already one of the best selling consoles ever while simultaneously we were having one of the worst years I can remember when it comes to games,
@jcrame10: What do you mean? They were about to make a pirate game on N64 but Nintendo wasn't interested so they reworked it and we got Banjo instead.
By the way 360 offered colossal variety, even greater than PS3. And it is a simple fact but you will never realize it because you have tunnel vision when it comes to noticing games.
If exclusives mattered Nintendo would have the best console of 2015 hands down. Since that is the case, sales are what determine the winner this year. What about when the Wii was winning sales? You're gonna have to ask Cows about that one.
Fanboys don't want to admit it but in today's age most people care about multiplats and better graphics more than exclusives. Wii U had a lot of exclusives but no one cared about it. PS4 has only one must buy exclusive but it is still selling.
According to one of the polls I saw few months ago, most people said that they are buying PS4 because of graphics. Exclusive matter but in today's era if someone doesn't own a PC then he buys a Console based on overall library (multiplats and exclusives... not just exclusives) and superior version multiplats.
However, if you already own a PC for graphics and better multiplats then the only reason to own a Console are exclusives.

I agree with your post all the way. I'm just saying that if a user is incorrect, he/she will be corrected. It isn't only a fan-base that will correct said user, but a multitude of users if they know the truth. I don't like the idea of demonizing or generalizing posters just because they seek the truth.
My grievance isn't with your sentiment but rather just your opening sentence. The point is I don't think we should be defending people that make incorrect (oftentimes deliberately trolling) statements. In some cases, they create threads without at least doing their due diligence just to see people dance for them.

What you fail to realize is a vast majority of consumers just want a console to play games. Yes, the PS4 had Bloodborne while the X1 has Halo 5. But if neither of those games are a strong influence in one's decision, then people will just opt for the one that seemingly has better hardware - which is the PS4. You make it sound like Sony used black magic to hypnotize their consumers but after all is said and done, they just made a better product. The only part related to marketing was contributed by Microsoft when they shot themselves in the foot at launch.
@jhcho2:
Console sales are more correlated with product perception than with the actual capacity of the hardware. History has proven this, so I disagree with you. There's no way to prove this, but I'm convinced that even if the PS4 had the same, or slightly less power than the X1, the PS4 would still be winning this gen sales.
In my opinion, with such mediocre games as in 2014, and with the console at release price, (Oh, the Supercharged PC <3) powerful hardware alone is far from justifying their insane numbers. So, ye, the initial bump was given by Microsoft, but Sony was, and still is, wise enough to cherish the opportunity and build upon it. Their whole strategy is based on selling the idea that the PS4 is more player friendly than any other platform, that they are the last good guys standing for the players, and that message landed pretty well with the masses, even if there's little that separates them from the competitors. That's why they can get away with what happened on the last E3 and, from what others might have to deal with some backlash, they actually managed to make an historical E3 moment with the announcement of two 3rd party/multiplataform games, one a remake (we know now, episodic), other a kickstarter (with goals clearly bellow the real values needed). Microsoft is the villain, they even steal (temporarily) Tomb Raider from the players, Sony is cool, because without them there would be no new Street Fighter (if anyone believes that a brand like SF needs to team up with anyone to sell...Jebus!).
Sony has all the merit for their success. But I think that the reasons for their success are not so linear as just having more powerful hardware.
@Salt_The_Fries: a game that never made it off the drawing board is being compared to a game that's probably halfway complete by now? That's realllyyyy stretching it.
PS3 had way more exclusives, and there's comments here in this thread breaking down xbox 360s exclusives. You should really check them out.
Are you bloody stupid or what? 1080p/60fps vs 720p/60fps is a HUGE deal. Go figure! Why'd you think it's getting shat on in sales?
Yeah and thats not good for PS4, just look at the PS experience they're abandoning big budget games for indie
PS4 has has a ton of announced AAA exclusives. More than Xbox for sure.
Xbox One:
Quantum Break
Scalebound
Gears Of War 4
Crackdown 3
Recore
PlayStation 4:
Uncharted 4
Horizon Zero Dawn
Detroit Becoming Human
Ratchet & Clank
Gran Turismo Sport
Dreams
The Last Guardian
Gravity Rush 2
Plus unannounced games by Santa Monica and Sony Bend
Then we have 3rd party and console exclusives like:
Ni-Oh
Star Ocean 5
Ni No Kuni 2
NieR Automata
Persona 5
Street Fighter 5
If you want to include digital only game like Cuphead or Sea Of Thieves for Xbox then PS4 still dominates with games like No Man's Sky, The Witness, The Tomorrow Children, Wild, etc
PlayStation also get FFVII Remake first and there is no guarantee that ever comes to Xbox. Same for Shenmue III.
This Xbox has more games is bullshit and has been from the start.
