@StrongBlackVine: street fighter and persona 5 aren't exclusive. Ni no kuni sounds like it's not either.

I think kinect, and initial reactions and misinformation hurt the other systems mostly. I think people choose ps4 instead of an Xbox not because they specifically want ps4. I did get my ps4 for sfv
@mems_1224: I said console exclusive for SFV which is the same as Cuphead and Sea Of Thieves is for Xbox One. Persona 5 is a PlayStation exclusive, same as Forza Horizon 2. There is some confusion surrounding Ni No Kuni 2. They announced it as a PS4 exclusive at PSX, but trailer said debut so there will need to be some clarification on that.
But I'm fine with eliminating any game that appears on a platform other than PS4 or Xbox One from the discussion. PS4 will still have more games.
I am an unapologetic Western gamer, and can say besides Uncharted and the Last of Us. There is no interest to me in PS4.
I have quite a few friends that were early adapted to PS4, now regretting it because all they play are multi-plats. They aren't interested in the Japanese stuff, and bought into the early hype of PS4.
I look over the fence quite a bit myself because I like to where gaming is going, but not much over there I want, and it seems like I can hardly enjoy my view with all the cow heads blocking all the room of my fence looking in.
From the reactions I saw from the PSX, can't say I blame them.
The PS4 is proof that gamers buy consoles based on hype and advertising and a $100 price difference can mean a world of difference.
Exclusives have never mattered. Ever, ever, ever. Only good games matter, whether exclusive or multiplat.
Street Fighter II (a DAMNED multiplat) sold more SNES consoles than the vast majority of it's exclusives. Ditto MGS, Final Fantasy, Resi, Tomb Raider for PS1, GTA for PS2, COD for 360, etc.

Lol. Whinge harder. Gamers just want great games, which PS4 provides, and not everyone owns a PC. Shocker, I know!!!
@jhcho2:
Console sales are more correlated with product perception than with the actual capacity of the hardware. History has proven this, so I disagree with you. There's no way to prove this, but I'm convinced that even if the PS4 had the same, or slightly less power than the X1, the PS4 would still be winning this gen sales.
In my opinion, with such mediocre games as in 2014, and with the console at release price, (Oh, the Supercharged PC <3) powerful hardware alone is far from justifying their insane numbers. So, ye, the initial bump was given by Microsoft, but Sony was, and still is, wise enough to cherish the opportunity and build upon it. Their whole strategy is based on selling the idea that the PS4 is more player friendly than any other platform, that they are the last good guys standing for the players, and that message landed pretty well with the masses, even if there's little that separates them from the competitors. That's why they can get away with what happened on the last E3 and, from what others might have to deal with some backlash, they actually managed to make an historical E3 moment with the announcement of two 3rd party/multiplataform games, one a remake (we know now, episodic), other a kickstarter (with goals clearly bellow the real values needed). Microsoft is the villain, they even steal (temporarily) Tomb Raider from the players, Sony is cool, because without them there would be no new Street Fighter (if anyone believes that a brand like SF needs to team up with anyone to sell...Jebus!).
Sony has all the merit for their success. But I think that the reasons for their success are not so linear as just having more powerful hardware.
Well, yes, perception does matter, like the PS2 vs the Xbox. But we are 2 years into the generation now, and the PS4 appears to have a tad bit edge in the resolution department. So a lot of the perception consumers have now are based on anecdotes at least.
That 'good guy' perception once again, wasn't so much pushed by Sony, but by Microsoft themselves. Microsoft has never given off the impression that they are consumer centric. If anything Microsoft is an arrogant corporation who thinks they should tell consumers want they want. How else can we explain the reason behind every alternate Windows OS being a failure? And with such an abysmal messaging during the X1 launch, Sony didn't even have to do anything.
Sony just did the same thing they were doing every generation. Many consumers who were disillusioned by MS flocked to Sony. But fanboys want to believe that Sony was deceiving their consumers.

Funny you saying that about Sony, when in the beginning of last gen the roles were kind of reversed.
