only differences that kind of stand out are not as many people use mics (this does not mean nobody uses mics), and some features on live that arent on psn. When it comes to online gaming/gameplay there is no difference besides the mics... and in games like killzone2, cod, and the other big multiplayer games out there, there are quite a bit of people with mics on

Ehh no cross game chats some ps3 games don't even allow you to invite your friends and XBL has other advantages that have not yet came to my head,

And cross-game voice chat.
Lacks the integrated feeling of XBL, but is mostly just as good (and sometimes better), especially given it's price: free.

PSN is just like the Marketplace.

The only difference I've encountered is that the Marketplace has more content and is easier to find things(in my honest opinion).

As for the PSN, I like the abundence of the free themes and wallpaper made available. Qore is pretty nice(Only used it once) but I find it a waste in most cases.

They each have their pros and cons but I find they're pretty much equal overall.

there is cross game chat, and though some games dont have invites on it most of the major ones do....

Edit: thought you meant no cross game chat at all, not voice chat

It really is the community feel that makes Live better to me. It has so many community gaming events, that promote and make it easy to meet new gamers. PSN is cool, imo, but I've spoken to a handful of gamers on it to be honest. In shooters, communication is essential, imo, and I always get that on Live.

The only problem I saw with PSN when I got to experience it was that it felt pretty lonely and deserted. Kinda hard to explain, but it felt as if there was really no community whatsoever. Downloads and updates were pretty slow as well.

There are some great features of Live that PSn does not have. But the main features you want for an online service and play are all there for PSN.

Me too. PSN is just THERE. To be honest there really isn't anything wrong with that, it serviceable and gets the job done. But when you go into live, it just seems more lively (no pun intended) there are contests, player profiles and yes, some ads, but it feels less clinical and a lot more friendly.

No, PSN is the exact opposite. Dedicated servers for all exclusives minimal to no lag on all games. For a free service its miles better than what you pay for Live.

Not really. PSN is absent of a few features like a party system, cross-game invites, in-game chat, and less media options in the PS store. It's also not the biggest focus of the system like Live is for the 360(or not as big of a focus, I should say). Though PS Home does kinda fill in the invite features to the PSN, except cross-game invite. As for media and commerce options, PSN has pretty much everything Live has, but less of it. It also doesn't have Facebook or any other network portals. Yes, there's PS Home if you wanna meet gamers and find people to game with. Everything else about Home is a waste of time(unless you're CRAZY about touring virtual worlds), but the features it was designed for and most anticipated for do work well. Of course, price would be the main difference. PSN is free while Live is a standard fee of $50 a year(from MS; it could be less from other providers). Only thing I would for from PSN is to make its community more lively. At the moment, it seems kinda dead and lonely. It doesn't need network portals, but something's missing to keep the community together and active.

The PSN is not that much different than XBL, only difference that I know of is one, cross chatting in games, once your in a game, you can only talk to people within that game, and also you can't listen to music when your playing games, some games on the other hand allow this, but not all. And of course the games are different, not saying thats a bad thing but they have their own feel to them. The multiplats of course will charge you for the add-ons, but most of the addons for the exclusives are free, while featuring quite a bit of purchasable content. For the mics, you can use almost ANY blu-tooth headsets/mics, I currently use the blu-tooth mic that came with my blackberry.

I like PSN a lot. Maybe the community's not as expansive as that of Xbox Live, but frankly I don't want to be in conversation with people who play video games for six hours a day anyway. It's a free service, and it's always worked very well for the games I use it for (mostly Warhawk, to be honest).

Some games require map packs to play online. All required map packs are free downloads. No game requires you to pay extra for a map pack DLC to play online; Microsoft will not allow that.

That's a good point. The PS3 does allow you to access any online community from the web browser. Now, while it's not the most refined web browser, it gets the job done. I can watch youtube videos, listen to music, and more with it. Only problem is no flash for the sites that need it. But this isn't part of PSN features, but the features of the system. It was touted as a "supercomputer" after all. Well, it most certainly resembles a computer, though I'd like to say a "mini-computer", with only part of the features of a PC. There's also dedicated servers in most(not all) PS3 games. The servers mostly run pretty smoothly, unless it's a problem of the game or the way it was developed. There is little lag in the games that utilize them, but let's face it, it's impossible for a game to have NO LAG. It's SCIENTIFICALLY impossible.;)

As for DLC, they're pretty much equal, though 360 gets the upper hand thanks to the "exclusivity" deals. This does compromise 1st party deals, but it does allow 360 users an advantage when it comes to DLC.
