Only 1 PS3 Model was backwards compatible to my Knowledge but to answer your question no I don't believe they are becoming anything and the PS5 will do great.

They sure as hell need to be taken to higher scrutiny. To think, the PlayStation was founded off of practically corporate and gamer rebellion and now, they become what they were sworn against.

I wouldn't go that far to say the big 3 are all evil. But they sure have one thing in common, making money whatever it takes and charging gamers to play online is just bad enough.

Sony not allowing cross play seems to mostly bother people who don't own PS4's on these forums. I couldn't care less. Although it was a great feature for FFXIV w/ PC, for truly competitive games online I understand their hesitance. As for BC, I own PS3, PS2 and PS all still working in fine order so whatever. Aside from those points IMO they're killing it this gen.

It depends where you draw the line of ok and not good, but in general, their main goal is cash, in large sums.

I would rather have blocked crossplay than mandatory online checks *and* blocked crossplay, bc let's be honest, MS would absolutely continue blocking crossplay if they were still very competitive with Sony.

I'm getting some serious deja vu feelings. Sony is getting back closer and closer to their PS3 launch era of arrogance and anti-consumer attitude. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been very pro-consumer lately and has been working hard to improve the Xbox experience in multiple ways and fix all of the things that their consumers were previously dissatisfied with. And Nintendo is finding success again with their latest innovative idea that differentiates them from the rest.

Does all of this sound familiar? It's starting to feel like 2006 all over again. History tends to repeat itself and given that all 3 companies are starting to act like they were leading up to the launch of the 7th generation again, I'm expecting the Switch to continue to be successful, Microsoft to make a comeback when they launch their next console, and for Sony to be a victim of their own arrogance again when they launch the PS5 just like when they launched the PS3.

I don’t think that I’d characterize them as such however they are rebuking some pro consumer aspects that are currently happening in gaming that other companies are embracing. Could they botch up the transition to their next gen platform? It is most certainly possible. When companies gain a lead they tend to get comfortable and arrogant.

Technically they are all the "bad guy" because at the end of the day, they just want your money. MS has found out how to do this without releasing very many games, buying and asset stripping studios - and Sony is using a somewhat underhanded method to stay at the top with online.

Well all the "4thagamerz" thing is pretty much dead, outside fanboys. But I don't think they're evil, just cocky. We'll see how things go next gen.

Bought my first Ps2 Classics on ps4 yesterday. ****'s sake sony could have easily do BC ps2 games we bought on ps3 to ps4 but no, they had to lock that feature and instead ask us to buy again on ps4. Rogue galaxy sucks ass on ps4, nothing had been done to the game like smoothing the texture, widescreen support or anything like better frame rate. Just trophy support.

There are no heroes in the corporate world. They're the bad guys to people who want them to make awful business decisions so they can give up their share of the market because they don't want to buy their products. The beauty of the industry is that there are choices. And if you feel what Sony does isn't right for you, then go with another. This is how capitalism should work. Demanding they bend to you as a non-customer is kinda dumb.

Honestly no one outside of these forums and nerds care about cross play. None of my friends have said "omg I hate Sony want cross play" nobody except some lemmings care about it because since the ps4 is outselling the xbox one they are trying to make fake news. Sony doesn't care they are wiping the floor with the xflop 1.

No. Cross play isn't a big deal. I remember a poll on another site about cross play on the Switch, and almost half of them did not care. Part of the ones who did care don't even use it, but support it because they believe every game should have it. Take in mind, this was on a forum. I don't even think most Xbox gamers in real life care about cross play, it's only the people on forums.

The only thing Sony really fucked up with is the account locking because that was some straight up bullshit.

They aren't "the bad guy" of gaming, but I think we are definitely seeing glimpses of the old cocky/arrogant/complacent Sony we've seen before.

That's bullsh*t... there'd be plenty of gamers (casual & hardcore) who would want it.

As Phil Spencer said during an interview at E3, there would be countless younger gamers who would want to play with their friends but own different consoles, so they can't. To me, that epitomises why we need X-play. It's not about Xbox or Nintendo gamers wanting access to PSN or whatever bullsh*t cows spew out, it's about friends/family being able to play together without having to own the same device.

If you don't think that's a big deal, then you need to open your eyes and think about what's best for the industry, not your corporate overlords.

If Sony selling a console for about $300 less than it costs them to make and ship while providing free online gaming and many great exclusives and extensive backwards compatibility is your idea of arrogance and anti-consumer behavior, then I've got no problem with that. Sign me up.

Besides the "pay to play online" bs none of their other decisions have impacted me in the slightest. I dont give a cr4p about mods or cross play cause all my friends play on PS4s. Hard to stay "consumer first" when all is going in your pocket. This is why competition is always needed in industry. No matter how great someone sees something as, there is another that doesn't care for it and prefers different.

No, companies like EA and Activision will always be the bad guys. They have no respect for their customers nor their games. They will do anything to make all the money even if it means destroying every IP and dev studio they own. Real scum, those guys.

Sony has always been the bad guy in gaming. Hell they forced electronics stores like Circuit City to not sell Sega and Atari Consoles by delaying delivery of the newest TV's to stores that sold them.

I have a bunch of friends on PS4 who are disappointed that they can't play Rocket League or Fortnight with everyone else. In Rocket League's case, those friends re-bought the game on other platforms.

Personally, I would like to play something like Gwent on both my PC and PS4, but Sony won't allow sharing my progress onto the PS4 - so I don't bother with the PS4 version at all.

Hell, I cancelled my PS+ subscription because I just don't see the point of playing PS4 versions of online games.

Don't get confused moogenja, people might want crossplay (gamers from all sides) but in no way does anyone want to play crossplay using the PSN. For us Xbox owners that would be like going from living in a mansion to sleeping under a bridge, no thank you.
