Poll Is Sony becoming the bad guy of gaming? (133 votes)

Yes, Sony is getting too cocky and it shows. 49%
No, it's only a vocal minority who are hating. 51%

First Sony received criticism for its lack of backwards compatibility, even though they provided true BC for the PS3 when it first came out. By true, I mean it actually had the hardware for you to play previous gen games. None of this downloading stuff. Now gamers are getting upset with Sony about locking cross play for its users, even though most console gamers own a PS4 and have plenty of people to play with already. What do you think is next, SW? Do you think Sony will botch up the PS5 reveal and resort to their old ways? Are they becoming the bad guy of gaming? Or are they still the fan favorite for gamers?

It currently isn't MS fault, so your point is mute. :) Keep up with the times.

Who says Crossplay is inevitable? because so far i have not seen anything even remotely close to that and no signs that say it´s coming. In fact, crossplay is a pipedream and as long as there are multiple consoles manufactures out there, there will not be one ounce of business sense in allowing crossplay.

Also, you really think it was the case Howard would come out and blame Sony? in fact, that he came out and did it, confirms Sony´s position and it justifies them not allowing crossplay.

If it was inevitable Bethesda would just make cross-play between Xbox, pc and switch, And let Sony be the odd man out.

Inevitable does not equate to now but that it would happen eventually. Sooner rather than later. The market expects this just like you expect to communicate with people on a network different to yours. Its not like the PS4 doesn't already support crossplay, so this behavior as if its something unfounded is nonsensical.

You are speaking from a gamers perspective. Try to expand your horizon and look at it from a business point of view.

It simply does not make sense for a market leader to enable cross-play with platforms that is in direct competition. It´s like with exclusive games, they sell consoles.

More like, the Big 3 are becoming the real bad guys of gaming itself.

So...the lesser of 3 evils?

Nintendo and MS aren't in the big 3 of gaming, why do people call them that? The current big 3 in terms of gaming are Tencent, Sony and Apple in that order. Actually if you just restrict it to console gaming then still Nintendo won't be in the top 3, both Activision and EA are ahead of Nintendo.

You're actually right. Unfortunately most people on SW don't really follow the industry closely. In terms of money being made in the industry neither MS nor Nintendo are in the top 3.

Tencent is no.1 followed by Sony and then Apple....

That's new to me tbh. You learn something new everyday.

Currently MS is losing badly,so they have no choice but to try to implement everything in their power to try to sell some xbox.

Even when last gen they claim live was this untouchable structure that other platforms could ruin, now out of nowhere that concern is gone,MS this same gen not last one this one blocked cross play if it wasn't for the PS4 supporting the features and the backlash that Rocketleague caused you would still be playing like you love with yourself..lol

@storm_of_swords: The difference is this time around PS4 has plenty of superb exclusive games on the market and a enormous lead is sales from multiplatform titles.

Same with Nintendo, great line up of games.

Now the question is where does this put Microsoft?

Don't believe everything you read online.

I think the fear is that they may have let the PS4 success go to their head which may cause missteps or repercussions in the next gen.

This is silly considering MS moves are all 180 movements after their console failed badly, the PS4 continues to sell great and is getting great games, not been compatible with other platforms in cross play is nothing considering that it has been like that for generations, and BC which is other thing lemmings are crying about was remove by sony since last gen, didn't do anything bad to the PS4 sales at all.

Im talking in general, people have something to say about BC and Crossplay over SONY over and over ... if you all wanna cry, cry about things that matters way more to you as Xbox fans ... EXCLUSIVES or go back and remember who was the one established the pay to play online service. Or who was saying no to crossplay in the past and because of that you dont have crossplay today.

Thats my point you seem bypassed.

Pay attention man, Sony fannies like yourself talk about Crossplay and BC more than anyone else. Embrace your misconception. Crying about "Pedro attacks Sony fannies daily so that means he is attacking Sony and that offends me." only makes you look more sad. Now you are reverting back to the juvenile "Buh buh he did that in past" mentality. Time to grow up son. Stop being a shill.

No you people do and you in special have a crusade for crossplay.lol

Last gen you didn't even care just like you didn't care about BC either.

I think that the PS2 had a much better lineup of exclusive games than the PS4 and the PS2's lead over the competition was far greater than the PS4's lead, but none of that stopped Sony from losing it all during the transition to the PS3 due to their own arrogance, so I really don't see what is different here.

Sony has already won this generation and it's too late for that to change just like it was too late for anybody to catch up with the PS2's dominant lead. But I stand by what I said that I think that Sony has been starting to go down a path of arrogance and anti-consumer attitude that is very similar to how they were acting during the transition between the PS2 and the PS3 and that ultimately lead to them taking a huge fall and I think that history will repeat itself during the transition between the PS4 and PS5.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has been laying the groundwork for a comeback. It's not going to happen with the Xbox One; like I said, it is too late for that, but I think that it will happen when they launch their next gen console. What Microsoft has been doing is building up good will with their recent pro-consumer attitude and how hard they have been working to show customers and developers that they have been fixing everything that customers and developers were previously dissatisfied with while also delivering great new innovations and features while Sony has just been in cruise-control mode. This year, they have also laid the groundwork for addressing the one big criticism that anybody could still fairly make about them which is their lack of exclusives. All of the new companies that they just bought should have some great exclusives ready to go when the next Xbox launches. All of this groundwork that they have been laying won't pay off this generation, but I strongly believe that it will pay off when their next console launches.

@storm_of_swords: Unless MS Invests in Europe their growth potential is severely compromised. Sony's visibility with UEFA competitions -particulary champions league-lasts for 20 years now and it's one of the smartest marketing deals they could pull off, showing the brand all-over Europe while nailing a big chunk of their demographics.
