I disagree. The SNES is my favorite system. It had excellent games for just about everyone, and the graphics tend to age better than those on the N64.
I believe it is. It is certainly my favorite, and the one I have the fondest memories of.charizard1605no kidding, I got the N64 at Launch back in 1996, and there a huge blizzard that winter, with tempature -0 where I was. Nothing but Mario 64 and Wave Race, it was like sex.
But if all those consoles make that list, the N64 also deserves to make that list. There was so much that it did, and so many high rated games that it had. The modern gaming industry literally would not have been the same without the N64.No, SNES, NES, PS1, PS2 are all greater in their time.
Heck, the PS3 & 360 will likely make that list in the end too.

how can the N64 make it on the better than the N64 list:P
N64 was good, but those systems were better. SNES marked Nintendo's peak. NES defined what a console was. PS1 defined what a modern console was with great 3rd party support. And the PS2, da everything.
N64 had several problem.
1. The controler was ackward. Revolutionary yes, but still horrible shaped.
2. Cartrages were expensive, and caused N64 game prices to be all over the place.
3. 3rd party support. N64 marked the beggining of 3rd party devs/pubs abandoning of Nintendo consoles for others.
It definitely was Nintendo's best. MAYBE the Gamecube comes close, but really, the N64 has no competition. It wasn't even the best console of it's generation. It wasn't even Nintendo's best console.

I'd say you could argue the GCN and Wii were better. None of their games had quite the impact as OoT or Mario 64 but they still had more games. It wasn't even the best console of it's generation. I know about all those problems :( The point is though, that the N64 flourished in spite of those problems. It had poor third party support yes, but man, it had the best games of the time. Rare and Nintendo had a never relenting stream of great core quality titles for it. Then there was the sheer number of things it got to the market- it was THE multiplayer console of its time, it got us rumble, and analog sticks... I know it did loads wrong (cartridges? That damn dinosaur claw controller?) But it STILL was an incredible, incredible console. Makes me wonder how great it would have been had third parties not jumped ship.Sorry, but PS2 disagrees in every aspect other then 4 player out of the box (remedied with a multitap).

What was outstanding on both systems was the first party support, but that's pretty much a given on any Nintendo system. It wasn't even the best console of it's generation. The NES and SNES were true greatness, because to me they were the epitome of what a good system should have: great, genre-defining and genre-creating first AND third party games, superb hardware, and legendary/well-deserved fame and popularity.
As the old saying goes, when I grew up, gaming was synonymous with "playing Nintendo". For a single console to do such a thing, to become the definition of gaming itself, I believe the NES takes the well-earned spot of Nintendo's greatest creation. Still, the SNES came and upped the ante in almost every way. To this day the SNES's games are some of the best/most beautiful sprite-based games ever made.
I'm probably one of the few who think that the N64 pad had a brilliant design. Very ergonomic pad and revolutionary due to reintroducing the analog stick and rumble feature. Only problem was that the quality of the analog stick and the buttons themselves wasn't very high (the stick was also pretty slippery after some usage).

The N64 controller appears to be very cheaply made, even moreso than the Sega Saturn controller. It's one of my disappointments in rebuying the system.

I'd blame the reason on "made in China" instead of "made in Japan" (like the SNES pad was).
Maybe so. I don't know, I might be wrong, but I believe N64 had more trendsetting games than the PS1 ever did? AGain, I may be wrong about this- I was a kid, my memory of the time isn't exactly the best. Some of them, at least. There were more on PS1.

Eh, maybe with some western games. But what put Survival Horror on the map? Resident Evil. What marked the beginning of a JRPG golden age? FFVII. Criticism aside, this game put JRPGs on the map in the US.
The N64 had great western support, but the Japanese support is what made the PS1 the console of its generation.
It's funny, because right now, it seems Nintendo has all the Japanese support, but no western support. Unfortunately, Japan no longer seems to be the center for innovation and trends in gaming anymore. And I would disagree that FF7 started the golden age for JRPGs- the SNES was the one, the only true golden era for those. Of course, that last part would be my opinion.Eh, maybe with some western games. But what put Survival Horror on the map? Resident Evil. What marked the beginning of a JRPG golden age? FFVII. I don't know if Nintendo has "all the Japanese support." Not even on handhelds anymore. And Japan is definitely struggling.
I don't think the greatest JRPGs of the SNES hold up to the greatest JRPGs of the PS1 and the PS2. And yes, my opinion.
