I wonder why did they scrap Dino Crisis? it was as much scary as the RE series.

HAZE-Unit

Dino Crises 3 was Capcoms pet project into making a survival Horror into a action game, they destroyed the series beyond redemption with 3. Dino crises 1-2 had more action but worked very well within the "Horror" sub-genre.

Anyone who calls Resident Evil 4 a "Survival Horror" is horribly wrong, if it wasn't called Resident Evil no one would even think of it as a Survival horror, I guess F.E.A.R is survival horror as well it has horror elements in a FPS ****...RE had horror Elements in a TPS **** Gears of war is also Survival Horror, you had scary moments with those bat things that would tear you to shreds in the dark. SCARY!....No...just no Resident Evil 4-5 can and never will be ****fied under Survival Horror.

I think the only time games can be scary is when they are unpredictable, and very hard. This means not going for a predictable, "scary moment". Sometimes you can even jump when something happens in an FPS game you don't expect, that runs the risk of instantly killing you. Now wouldn't it be scary if you were scavenging an area for items, and you just happen to come across a closet that you think might contain something useful, only when you open it one of the most powerful enemies in the game is there, and it's already within too close a proximity to deal with it in a way that you have familiarised yourself with. It's at the moments you expect the least that games can become truly scary, and because of the more random nature of games, they can truly be the ultimate scare platofrm. For example how many people were creeped out when they played BioShock, and turned round to see a freaking dentist splicer standing right behind you? If only the game had been harder, and had a few more moments like that....

I think the real problem is horror games are written to much like movies, to many linear events, and there's really no need because the platform allows for alot more freedom if you ask me.

I think we and a video game commuinty have evolved and things just don't scare us anymore. we got the internet and news channels. thats enough to not let a video game scare us IMO.

Yeah, so I beat RE4 for the first time today. I never got the chance to play it and now I did. I've beaten RE1 and 2 upon hearing for nearly three years on how fun RE4 was I was anticipating more days of sleeping with the lights on and **** fun.

I didn't get it.

RE4 is creepy, yes. The graphics are still beautiful and the environments are absorbing. But you just don't feel the panic and scare of an army of zombies overwhelming you, or that depression and "I'm all aloooone" feeling. Yes, the action is fantastic; Yes, the boss fights are colossal. But Resident Evil is survival-horror, for pete's sake... Where's the horror in this game when you can carry a bajillion different guns and ammo is lying at every nook and cranny?

But RE4 is old hat. RE5 comes out next year. And I just want to know if it can become a truly frightening experience, yet be a mesmerizing action-adventure game at the same time. From the trailers and the return of the Ganados, it just feels like another RE4; fun and frantic, yet not really pants-wettingly terrifying.

What do you all think?

check out dino crisis 3.

thats why. its a game so bad it killed the series beyond all hope of redemption.

on a side note, Dino Crisis did kick a lot of ass. I still play through it every now and again.

REforever101

Wow exactly the same comments and I checked out DS3 on youtube, OMG what they have done to this amazing game? the game looks beyond stupid, I think Capcom loves to change their games to completely different things.

[QUOTE="gdp72"]I never found RE games to be that scary. I can understand how a fixed camera can add suspense but it's at the cost of quality gameplay. RE4 improved on the gameplay 10 fold over previous RE games which actually prompted me to finish the game unlike previous RE titles where I felt like chucking my remote in my TV.gdp72

There is nothing wrong with the new gameplay mechanics, it was the best of the series and even with the new camera, there are some scary moments like when you walk in corridors ( ie the start of the game in the village where you should close the door and zombies shooting you through out the window), these scary situations could be easily done in small corridors even with full 360 camera.

The problem with the game is the atmosphere, it was way too different than the past games and the story sucked ass imo, some enemies were funny when I first encountered them, like the chainsaw guy, the magicians like guys who throw some kind of magic.

I prefer the dark Raccon city over unknown European city or Africa playing at afternoon or in the morning.

I laughed my arse off the 1st time my head got sawed off! I agree the story was weak. Hopefully RE5 addresses that. As for the being an RE purist like you, I don't have issues with them shaking up the locations the game takes place.

Im hoping they execute the game well enough to make it survival horror again, I doubt that though, going Chuck Norris killing tons of zombies and blowing up bridges is not Resident evil.

re4 was crap compared to the old ones i wish we got the "biohazrd" version of it :( 5 looks good but its not the same and the real fans of the series knows itJetB1ackNewYear

if your saying RE4 was crap because it wasn't as scary, well then I could say the earlier games had crap controls, therefore they were crap compared to RE4.

I Liked Dino Crisis 2 especially because of its combat system. That game was really fun.

Shame on how the Xbox version was so terrible though.

Resident Evil stopped being scary once 4 was released.Juggernaut140

This.

The first 2 had me made me jump more than i'd like to admit, and the atmosphere was always tense, the 3rd was more about a sense of doom approaching but still worked really well, the fourth, well ... it was a great third person shooter.
