Path of Exile is pretty good.

No love for the original Diablo?

I love the atmosphere from the original, none of the sequels have replicated or surpassed it in any way. But its gameplay is hopelessly outdated.

Hell no.

Diablo 1's gameplay was somehow better than the sequels. The original Diablo was about making the best out of what you were given. Diablo 2 and 3 threw this out the window. And replaced it with infinite farming for days. Turning the Diablo into a game of dealing with the cards you were given into a game about slave grinding for days.

That's one good thing about the original Diablo. I barely remember grinding much in that game. Unlike later Blizzard RPGs that became grindfests.

From what I've tried: Diablo 3 < Torchlight < Then a toss up between Path of Exile and Diablo 2. Personally I prefer Path of Exile because it's constantly updated, innovative, and unique but still holding true to what players actually want from a deep, rich H&S ARPG experience. Diablo 2 delivers this as well, minus the updates and innovation (it was for it's time, however). But it has a few things over Path of Exile. Like I said; it's a toss up. Hard to say. And this order is, of course, after considering what makes these games RPG's at their core and which does it best overall, not bias or my own preference. Oh, and, games like Skyrim, Darksouls, and others alike and/or not alike are in their own genres respectively, so not much will be accomplished in mentioning them here (to one of the posters above me).

Edit: Grim Dawn is also really good. It's like a slower-paced Path of Exile that has it's own approach to character-building. Although, it's virtually missing an end-game. It does a lot of things differently to. Some worse, some better, some just different and up for grabs. In the end I would put it up there alongside Path of Exile and Diablo 2. Even though it doesn't feel quite there yet, I believe it will be in time.

Is there a single Western Action Roleplaying Game even remotely as good as Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction? With its impressive matchmaking, complexity (for an ARPG), item incentive and grimdarkness, do you think we will ever see a better WARPG than this completely 100% PC-centric Blizzard top-down ARPG game?

Try to name one. Protip: You can't.

As a Diablo 2 huge fan back in the days with thousands of hours in game literally and 3 copies of D2+lod ( well i was botting i accept it but still ) ...

Path of Exile is BY FAR the best action RPG there is out there. To me its the benchmark. It has tremendous skill diversity between classes/characters , en epic tree that opens so different and unique ways to play the very same class/skills, very very deep itemization that theres no other game to even think to challenge , by FAR the best economy any game ever offered which make your playtime worth whatever level you are, in whatever ilvl region you are playing at...

And if you add everything else like amazing end-game content, trading, PVP, lenght, soundtrack etc .... and ALL THAT FOR FREE .....

Diablo 2 ? Naaah. Not even close

And im saying this for a year : Diablo 4 will copy MANY aspects of Path of exile , mark my words. Diablo 4 will be the casual version of POE.

I truly enjoyed Diablo 3... Completed the campaign with several character classes, the Barbarian twice.

I don't think there are any JRPG ARPG's that I am aware off, but if your looking for a ARPG go ahead and play some Path of Exile.

Undead make for great enemies in ARPG's. Not to make into a thread.
