When comparing 1st party in 2010?! It seems to me that everytime i see a thread about "Year of PS3/360" that amnesia suddenly falls upon everyone on SW's that Nintendo are still #1 in producing the best overall quality in 1st party gaming. Now i've narrowed it down to 2 things Denial and Denial... Denial that when it comes to bragging rights that X 1st party looks better than Y 1st party that X will always be Nintendo!! Alright they might bea small fish in a big pound and not have as many as development companies to hand work too as both MS and Sony but as soon as Nintendo say "Aye were making XX game" then the whole world gets hyped rather than like sony and MS who only the few get hyped up about.

Now compare all of the 1st party titles between MS, Sony and Nintendo rather than the 2 HD Consoles and alot of people will notice that Nintendo this year has more to offer than SW's as a majority think.

  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 with Yoshi,
  • New Zelda,
  • Metroid Other: M...

Nintendo are releasing their big three this year. Obviously Nintendo are winning first party releases for 2010. Sony and Microsoft don't even compare.

Personally it's easy to forget Nintendo's line up when it's just sequels to pretty old game series. How many Zelda and Mario games have I already played, seen and passed up? Metroid isn't quite as bad, but still, there are still plenty of Metroid games floating around. I'm not saying these games will be bad but I'm completely uniteresting. They're probably going to push the same experience they've been pushing for decades. The only way that line up could become any less interesting to me is if they replace Metroid with another Pokemon game.

So if I were to throw in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and No More Heroes 2, two titles that came out 3 days ago, would it have any meaning here in system wars?

The Wii has exclusives.

The other two have exclusives + multiplats.

That's why it can't be the year of the Wii. It has quite a strong 1st pary lineup this year, but it still lacks the multiplats to call massive attention from the SW debates.

Nope. The only other games I know of that Nintendo is publishing on the Wii this year is Sin and Punishment 2 and I don't care for rail shooters. And there Endless Ocean 2 and I didn't like the original, so I don't really look forward to the sequel.

Keep in mind I'm only speaking for myself.

Thats like me saying "GT5 is only game coming out on PS3 because XX reason" or "Halo reach is only game coming out for XX reason" you are still dismissing other games. I was generally on about the companies as a whole and not as preference to your choice of games to ignore.

No it's not. I didn't say any particular game was or was not coming out for particular reason nor did I say the were or were not important to other people for any particular reason. In your first post you were talking about Nintendo's first party line up. Nintendo's games. As in games published by Nintendo. If thats not what you meant you should not have used the term first party. I said why I personally don't care as I'm the only one I can speak for. What other people think of these games really doesn't matter to me. I have my preferences and I'll stick to them regardless if people like it or not. I can see why some people mayl ike what Nintendo has lined up though, but I've already explained why I don't care for it.

PS3 has GT5, God of War 3 and Last Guardian( from Team ICO, every game they make is a work of art, play ICO and SOTC if you do not believe me) All systems have a great line-up of first party exclusives.

Zelda won't be coming out in the US this year, so it's Mario and Metroid vs GT5, GoW3 and Last Guardian. It comes down to personal preferences, really.

You just have to learn to appretiate the fine art of selective amnesia.

I just sit back and behold the amazing, and abundant, display of convenient ignorance found in SW.

The Wii games are going to top the charts once again, but keep in mind, here in SW, we don't give two craps about the Wii. Oh look, another Mario and Metroid title, alongside 20 other games that I've never even heard of. How fascinating. Thank you, I'll keep my eyes on GoW 3, Heavy Rain, WKC, Records of Agarest War, and FF13.

So a game like God of War 3 is ok because the franchise has only been around for what? 6 years?

Nintendo's titles are significantly behind the standards of the current generation. There's a twenty page argument the moment you suggest voice acting might be necessary this decade... so to say their 2010 line-up is actually comparable to the rest of 2010 is a bit... rich. That's not to say they're inherently bad games, but what kind of screenshot, feature, or "creativity" comparison can you do in the year Nintendo is just basically giving people the three sequels they've been asking for?

In all fairness, the new Zelda game is supposed to be a breath of fresh air. Whether it's true or not, we will see.

Mario so far essentially looks like Galaxy with new levels and Yoshi. Like you said, it's probably going to push the same experience from Galaxy. I would argue that Galaxy isn't the same experience they've been pushing for decades.

As for Metroid....it looks like the farthest thing from what Metroid is supposed to be. Team Ninja is great and all but I really hope they don't forget the emphasis Metroid puts on exploration and discovery. So far it's looking like a good action game, but far from a Metroid game.

Metroid, Mario, Zelda What does Microsoft and Sony have to compare to those three?

Those 3 franchises are worshiped by sheep in name only, but mostly fall short on scores here on gamespot. When people talk about the ps3 and 360, AAA titles come into the picture. The last Zelda and Metroid Prime game which you are claiming to be trump cards of your console didn't even make it pass the AAA barrier. Mario is perhaps the only one deserving mention. The latest Mario game wasn't even AAA.

So you wanna know why people leave the Wii out of the picture? It's because Wii games are only good by word of mouth, but never by review scores. How many games were hyped up and completely failed? Madworld? Sonic and the Black Knight? The Conduit? Dead Space looked decent but nobody bought it. Other than having the most console sales, the Wii is a failure of a console. Hyped up games turned out bad. Good games were not bought. The Wii is hanging by a single thread with Mario, Zelda and Metroid tied to it. And even then, neither of them are even guaranteed AAA. It's really not worth the mention.

Lol. This will never change. SW will continue to pretend the Wii doesnt exist in order to debate about graphix kings and PS3/360 comebacks. Meanwhile, when killer titles appear for the Wii, they'll claim injustice and demand those same titles on their own platform. It never ends.

Like Resistance, Uncharted, and Killzone franchises, 2 of which are this generation franchises, and are improving along the way. Killzone 2 was last generation, but still relatively new, and is also improving. If thesee 3 franchises keep up the pace, they'll be AAA franchises in a few years.

Mario and Zelda are 20 year old franchises. Metroid is about 7 years. I can't believe Nintendo has nothing but these 20 year old franchises to rely on. That and a few rehashed games of AAA titles last gen.

Nah son, he owned you. You still play a game that is more of a rehash than any Wii game, because obvously, soccer is not gonna change. You can't say anything about old franchises that actually CHANGE from one iteration to the other, and call them "rehashes".

actually im playing Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP and Prince of Persia on my 360 at the current moment in time, Not everyone can own 2 consoles and 2 handhelds. Your paying for the same game constantly just several small changes which normally is just players being transferred from club to club which could these days be done by download so yes you are paying for a rehash then complain about rehashes. Irony is such a funny thing :-)

Even though i have a 360, a gaming PC, a Wii and am considering buying a PS3, i still think the Wii is the most innovative of all the game systems, even the PC. Nintendo's titles, as someone else stated so long ago, are greatawesome games even if you take the main character out (Mario, Link, Samus, etc.), and really, if you did probably no one would notice (SMG? Metroid Prime?), and that's what makes those games great. GAMEPLAY, FUN. Not graphics. I'm playing Crysis right now, everything oon very high and yes, it is very sophisticated, but has it REALLY changed things a lot on the FPS genre? Probably not...

I am with Maddox all the way when he states that Nintendo is the console for hardcore gamers... he makes very good points about it. You can't say you're hardcore because you play MW2 because... you know... everyone else plays it, it's a casual game. Same with Killzone, Halo, and all the million other franchises... but Little King's Story? World of Goo (which is actually a multiplat but still...)? No more heroes? The Wii has excellent hardcore titles that are disguised as children games just to get more sales. Would you say Lemmings is not hardcore because it's "kiddy"? If you answered yes... well... i guess you're still a child.

because the people who forget a platform, even if they don't own it, aren't "core" gamers since gamers who loving playing games want to play as many games as they can, and have varied tastes in gaming.

But its fair, the "core" gamer who plays Gears of War is just as likely as the "casual" gamer who plays Wii Fit to actually boot up Galactic Civilization 2.

People who don't own all platforms can't possibly understand what is great about the platforms they don't own

As the owner of a gaming PC, Xbox 360, PS3 (with BC), PS2, DSi, Wii, and many old systems i love all games, i want to try them all

i'm looking forward to Wii's 2010 more than 360's, and 360s more than PS3s

But they all got good stuff

The only console i don't own or game on, is the PSP. i often compare it to the DS myself due to a bet i had last year that the users who took me up on it actually disappeared after i start winning it, but i've often said i wish i had a psp, i'd get one if the price was right, it has a lot of great games coming to it, has a good library, and one day, i will probably own one again, i try to be fair even when i sound negative about a platform, i can't imagine i always succeed

perhaps I didnt make myself clear, rehash I meant in the same vein as good new IPs , Look at mass effect, Uncharted, Gears and so on true they dont re-write the rules but they do enogh to make the experience not feel too familiar. Making a game thats not a rehash is not necessarilly reinventing the wheel, but giving the gamer something refreshing. trying to claim ownage by using a sports game is trite. All games are rehashes in some respect, its new Ips that keep the monotony at bay. Now am not saying other consoles dont do this- Mgs, halo, However there's enough excellent new titles on the 360,ps3 and pc that werent around when vhs was all the rage.

mario, zelda andd metroid have a combined age of over 60,

these games are pensioners and are still being milked for all thier worth

Nope you made yourself clear previously but now you are blabbering on! Pretty clear that when it comes to Nintendo its double standards for you. Metroid Prime isnt the same as Super Metroid or MO:M but aye its a rehash because it has Samus as main character. Thats called a Reboot and not a REHASH! It has familiar elements but its not the same. Please stop arguing.... If you wanan carry on i can pass you a shovel to dig yourself a little deeper lol. Fifa afterall is a REHASH which ever way you wanna attempt to argue about it but like i said "Fifa 2010 is a Rehash but looks like you brought that game so whats the differance?! Ohhh its simple that you are unable to play Wii games on your PS3. " and thats pretty much explains your fanboyism. PS: I'm off to martial arts training now.

[QUOTE="Parasomniac"]Nintendo keeps making the same 3 franchises. Sony comes out with high quality new IPs all the time and sequels to them.jhcho2

Resistance was AA (and was reviewed before GS went to .5 increments, and scored above 8.5, so that's almost AAA). R2 was 9.0 (AAA). Uncharted was AA, Uncharted 2 was AAA. Killzone was last gen, Killzone 2 was AAA. What do you mean they'll be AAA in a few years? All three franchises already are by their second installment.

Mario is 29 years old. Zelda is 24 years old. Metroid is also 24 years old. Now personally, I have no problem with old franchises, just wanted to clear those dates up for you; your age was especially off on the Metroid series. While I appreciate classic franchises, I do agree, however, that Nintendo's ability to come up with new IPs (other than casual/fitness junk... WiiSports, WiiPlay, WiiFit, WiiMusic, WiiEtc...) is really lacking.

Dibdibdobdobo

Nintendo is still #1 in first party gaming? Most of their franchises are practically dead now (with some exceptions). My main issue with Nintendo of this generation is the lack of risk and ambition they have made with their games. They have some of the best talent in the industry, yet they haven't managed to make any new IPs in a while that can stand on the level of Mario, Metroid, and Zelda in both quality and sales.

Nintendo's titles are significantly behind the standards of the current generation. There's a twenty page argument the moment you suggest voice acting might be necessary this decade... so to say their 2010 line-up is actually comparable to the rest of 2010 is a bit... rich. That's not to say they're inherently bad games, but what kind of screenshot, feature, or "creativity" comparison can you do in the year Nintendo is just basically giving people the three sequels they've been asking for?subrosian
Behind the standards they are making a sequel to a GOTY. Which beat out many other current gen titles. Your second point is dead on. I agree, I want more sequels to the games I know and love.

everyone leaves the wii out because besides 1st party games, the wii basically has nothing. id rather play 1 decent 1st party game and 15 good other games than 3 good 1st party games and nothing else.
