"iv had my 360 since launch" the 360 grim reaper will be at ur door soon

"its only a 5% chance" that was a year ago, now more have broken :)

"this is just fanboy talk" and all those complaining while on there 4th 360

the 360 is obviously unreliable....but hopefully they will fix it with this new chip, but the old ones should be taken and replaced for free....if there changing the chip then there has to be something wrong, just look at it that way

Thanks for your useless input

Wow denying the failure rate of the 360 your only hurting yourself. Even Lemmings are pissed at MS for this.

I'm not denying the failure rate, I'm denying the fact that every cow wants everyone to think that they are either on their 4th or 5th 360 and all of their friends are. Saying 20% is a major stretch....

Just something to think about, I'll bet you Microsoft does NOT count the defective "refurbished" X360's they send out when someone's X360 craps out.  That means those people who say they have had 4 break, honestly I bet Microsoft just counts that as 1 defective unit.  It may be why they sit and claim 3-5% is where they stand....who knows.  When they completely dodge the question when asked recently it leads me to believe they are worried about the preception of their product.

If it's only a few crazed fanboys claiming X360 has a high failure rate, why would Microsoft extend the warranty for ALL X360's by a year?  Seriously, if it's not an issue as a lot of you seem to believe they would NOT be doing anything but count their money all the way to the bank.  I don't know what the true failure rate is but if you are to include all the refurb X360's they send out, it can't be 5%...I'm sorry that is an extreme in the opposite direction.  20% might be high, that is getting into the arena that MS with their new warranty would be committing sucide if 1 out of 5 were defective....that's a lot of shipping costs as well ast he cost to repair all the defects.

But I do believe some have gone through multiple consoles because they are getting old defective 360's that were "worked" on by MS.  I'm pretty sure a used X360 that has broken before is more likely to break than a brand new X360 right off the assembly line.  Thing is MS knows they can't give new consoles as it's too expensive.....but the used consoles don't last long enough.....a bad set of circumstances if you ask me.

that's part of my point. If MS made an offcial statement then the net wouldn't be flooded by haters. But at the same time, no smoke without fire, right? if it was a no-issue then the haters would've found something else to bash the xbox360 about.

raualex

I'm sorry you can't use their silence as an indication that nothing is wrong lol.  Besides who needs an offical statment that something is wrong when we have the new 1 yr warranty that suddenly shows up.  I agree if the hardware was a no-issue people would find something else (funny one is it's a FPS console lol) but IMO this is the only thing that is keeping it down.  It's much like the pricepoint of PS3, it's an anchor that is going to drag you down until you deal with it.

If that were true the failure rate would be 100%, and not just 5-7%. I'm on my console since Sep 06, no red lights, no scratched discs. I did have some minor freezing issues a while back, which I was able to resolve just by changing the units position from horizontal to verticle.

The console was on a book when I had it horizontal, so it had plenty of ventilation on all sides, but still, moving it upright made the problem go away. Go figure :|

AdobeArtist

Those 5-7% are numbers Microsoft has pulled out of their ass.

Survey 61% failure. The site that did the survey are dedicated to the Xbox 360.

http://www.games-digest.com/2007/05/just_how_high_i.html

Those numbers can be true because about 50% of the people i know which owns a 360 are atleast on their second unit.

My launch 360 got the 3 red lights. The one I have now doesnt open on the first try if there isnt a disc in it. Anyone had this problem. I love my 360 to death it is the best online community ever, but the hardware problems do get annoying. I wish MS would reles the 65 nm chip already.

My Xbox 360 is like Jesus- it resurrected. i was playing Gears online a few weeks when suddenly the console turned-off. i turned it back on only to get the Red lights of Doom. so i turn the console off & turn it back on... but still the red lights of Doom. i unplug everything & reconnect & yes the console fires up & i start playing Gears again... anyway 5 mins later- it turns off & i get the 3 red lights of Doom.i try unplugging everything & reconnecting etc but still it wouldnt work- so i rang customer support & they wanted to me see what the colour of the light was on the power brick when the lights of doom came up- that way they could see what was wrong- but since i had the console in my hand (coz i needed it for the serial number) i said id phone them back the next day. i reconnected the console - but it wouldnt turn on at all--- i had to unplug evrything, re-plug it- but no luck. did it again- then again... then finally it worked- its been working ever since with no problems & that was a month ago!

my console is most definitley like Jesus!

Everyone knows that Xbox 360's break down all the freakin time. This is why I have yet to buy an Xbox 360. It's like playing with fire. I'd rather not take the risk just yet.

Typical media hype.  All I can say is from the 8 people I know that own a 360, only 1 has had to send his in which was a launch 360.  Mine has been running flawless since March 06.

That is 1 out of 9 that had a problem.  System wars you get so many fanboys that don't even own a 360 saying that they just returned their 4th one because of problems.

Lesson here, don't believe that there is some massive issue with the 360 on system wars.  Though I am sure that the 360 isn't the sturdiest made console hardware wise, it's not the huge problem everyone is saying that it is.  I even read that more PS3 were being returned now than 360's from one quote, though I don't quite believe it.

Part of me is very tempted to get a 360. Some of the games look fun, and the Toys R Us deal this week almost makes the price worth it. Unfortunately, I will not get one untill this issue is taken care of. I can't beleive that such a significant number of people don't appear the least bit concerned that something they spent $400 on may break in the next 3, 6, 12, or 24 months.

MS saying "Things break" is just not a good enough answer to me. Yes things break, but usually with a bit of outside help, or overtime. I should not wonder if something that I use in the manner in which it is intended will just shut down.

People say "Get the extended warrenty" Why should I. I have never needed it for any other system I've owned. Nor have I used one for any tv, dvd player, stereo, computer, or other electronic item I've owned in my lifetime. The fact that the warrenty is almost a mandatory purchase is rediculous.

From what I've read, most of the problems come from overheating causing chips to come loose or whatever. That definately sounds like a potential for any machine out there to fail. If the issue is size, build a bigger machine. I'll take a bigger 360 that I trust will last me just as long as my NES over a smaller one that might die in 2 years.

yes i own an xbox 360.  Ive had to return mine twice but then again my console was among the first batch made.  Im pretty sure MS bs out of there ass when they said 3% failure error...its more like 60% failure error for the first batch of 360s.  Sony's consoles may suck but at least they make there stuff at a really high quality level.  My psp ive had since 2005 and no problems.  My sony TV i had since 92 and its still working fine.

Why is it that every time the NPD numbers come out showing Sony's PS3 getting romped... That the number of Xbox 360 is defective threads increases?

"Cows" trying to change peoples mines? I think so.

Wasn't the PS3 behind the 360 in sales by just a tad? Isn't the Wii destroying both the 360 and PS3 in sales? I'm also sure peeps keep bringing up how 360's are breaking down because it's true.

If you call over 2 times more 360 sold in the U.S. just a tad...

Wii > 360 > PS3

I don't know about you, but people can make alt accounts on here. People can lie and people can't tell. We only have a number from Microsoft which is 3-5 %. I believe in that because. There would be a either...

A: Recalls.

or

B: Redesigns.

Yea, it's pathetic that cows have nothing better to do then try to find any source that posts high defective rate numbers and then try to pass it off as teh reliable.

Sorry, but that site totally lost any credability, when it posted a story about Konomi's 'Wining' Eleven. Wining? Konomai made a grape stomping sim?
