@BassMan: You are certainly entitled to your opinion and your priorities. I probably don't need to tell you but you should probably never touch anything but a very powerful PC then.

Nope. I have had a great time. Starting with DR3, infamous ss, sunset overdrive, my first loved racer forza horizon 2, bloodborne, ori, the witcher 3 made my gen the way people like charizard talk about persona5, arkham knight I liked so much more than the "professionals", rare replay (I wasn't a Nintendo gamer so many were new to me), BC coming free of charge!!! I borrowed gears ultimate and played a match in the allotted time and got all of them bc, theMCC by the time I rocked my favorite part-campaigns the online was working great then I got a free ODST? Now Reach, WITCHER2 as well. Kept my KZ going, and my MGS5GZ to Phantom pain on my PS4, got Uncharted collection as a bday gift readying me for U4. My buddy is a cow in NC and wants me to get star wars to play with him so I'll see. I got to continue my favorite series and love it with Halo 5, rise of TR was easily a top 5 game to play in '15.
Yes, I love video games. I don't expect them to be life changing experiences but I have gotten some great ones since November 2013 on ps4 and X1
Serious question. Are you guys content with your current gen purchases so far? Outside of handhelds, this generation of systems have been a major let down. All of them, for various reasons.
I was just wondering if you guys thought differently? If not, what games have made it worth your while?
This generation has some great games out and better coming. I dont get what else you would want ... More options than ever in many genres.
More games that innovate. More games that are unique and fresh, while at the same time being large and deep. I'm not seeing much of that this gen.
The Witcher 3 for a deep, well made game. Splatoon for being original, creative and innovative. Rocket League for the same reasons as Splatoon. Ori and the Blind Forest for top notch level design and knife-edge sharp gameplay mechanics.
Four non-handheld games that have impressed me this generation, and we're how many years in so far? I just want more of it, and at a faster rate.
Thats taste and personal preference . Last gen had some/many shortcomings too.

Indeed. I always try to play everything on PC. Unfortunately, there are console exclusives that I want to play. So, I have to buy the consoles too. Sometimes they get it right like Forza 6 and Halo 5 which run at a steady 60fps. Most of the time it seems that I have to deal with performance issues on console. I very much want to play Uncharted 4, but I am not looking forward to the 30fps in the campaign. I will try to enjoy the game for what it is. It would be amazing if these games were all on PC, but I understand the corporate greed and the reliance on exclusives.
Even tho i try to have a successful cow career, i gotta say, i have not used my ps4 since mid June when i stopped playing Bloodborne. Its collecting as much dust as my 360 pre ps4 launch.

True, but last gen gave us games like the Mass Effect Trilogy, TLoU, SMG 1 & 2, Fallout New Vegas, Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Tales of Vesperia, Uncharted series, Gears series, Valkyria Chronicles, Ni No Kuni, Muramasa etc.
It's gonna be hard to top last gen and the one before that, especially if this gen keeps remastering those gens' games and pumping out sequels to them.
PS4 has yet to have a single exclusive worth owning that wasn't a Remaster.
X1 had Halo 5, which was decent, but far from the quality the series was once known for, and Sunset Overdrive, which was actually really fun but outside of those two, again no worthwhile exclusives that aren't Remasters.
Wii U on the other hand has been outstanding. Yes, it had a very disappointing start but considering the system is been supported by Nintendo alone, while they're also supporting the 3DS, it's quality really is unmatched, and honestly this year looks no different. Everything coming to Wii U this year looks better than what X1 and PS4 are offering (and this is coming from a fan of both Uncharted and Gears of War). I'm actually having mixed feelings about the NX releasing soon, I don't want to box my Wii U, because it's the only system I'm truly having fun with, but at the same time, I'm hoping desperately for Nintendo to blow Sony and Microsoft out of the water, and show the world what a quality console really is, so we can finally get this generation moving, because until someone gives Sony some competition, we're doomed to stagnation.
It's an attitude thing I think. I just love video games. I love bad ones even. I don't get mad. It doesn't get me super pissed when a game has a glitch or goes below 30fps or doesn't meet some absurd hype. I appreciate them for what they are and have a lot of fun playing them. Dammit! I love them! And the thing is they are probably more polished now than they ever were before. If you don't like it don't do it. I have a number of hobbies and so should everyone. If this one doesn't do it for you don't waste your time.
This post is not so much toward anyone in particular.
@DrkeX: Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, Disgaea 5, Until Dawn, Yakuza 0/Kiwami/6, Gravity Rush 2, Nier Automata, World of Final Fantasy, Ni-Oh, Alienation, What Remains of Eddith Finch, Ni no Kuni 2, Deep Down, Detroit: Become Human, Drawn to Death, Dreams, Gran Turismo Sport, Matterfall, Ratchet and Clank, Rime, Wild, Shadow of the Beast, The Tomorrow Children, Uncharted 4, Persona 5, The King of Fighters 14, The Last Guardian, etc etc
It's a refresher generation. Improved on 7th gen without transcending it. It's just that games are taking longer to make. But I don't discount that refreshing, because game design aside (scale is really the only thing that's been increased from last gen) from a visual and performance standpoint the last generation was very long in the tooth. We needed it and considering budgets, and the losses incurred by Sony and MS from a hardware standpoint last generation it's the best we could've hoped for in hindsight. If we want some of the shittier aspects to change people have to put their foots down and stop supporting them.
I like the Wii U despite what it could've been, and the droughts, and the Ps4 is coming into its own this year. But, without older games to rely on thus far it would be pretty shitty for me. I've been trying to complete my collections on older consoles, so I won't have to rely on the slow release rates of today.

The Wii U has delivered great experiences in spades.
The rest are just... a joke. It's literally Xbox 361 and PS3.5.
Thats at least what sheep and lems love to spout. I wonder why...

The WiiU itself is a PS2.5 just with an useless tablet and no games worth a shit.
My PS4 is finally getting used frequently, my WiiU has been in use a lot for at least 2 and a half years now but sadly my Xbox One is collecting dust and looks to continue that trend until 2017.
It's alright, nothing special but nothing awful

Dat AAAAE Bayonetta 2 makes everyone so salty.
@foxhound_fox: So butthurt that it totally flopped and moved no hardware. Bloodborne puts the so called saltiness of "Bayonetta 2" to shame.

How can a game that scores 10/10 flop?
The metagame isn't about sales, it's about scores.
And Bloodborne only got 9/10. I'm so sorry.

Why are you sorry? Nintendo should be sorry for putting the last dagger into the bayonetta franchise.
Scores? Lol how pathetic. Will you bring up scores when Uncharted 4 or any other PS4 game ends up with a higher metacritic than every single WiiU game?

Last dagger? Nintendo made the second game possible. It wouldn't have existed without them. Sony and Microsoft could have picked it up but didn't, and missed out on a AAAAE game.
Metacritic isn't part of the metagame. Only Gamespot scores count here. Sorry.

Nothing stays dead forever but with nintendos interference its clearly over for bayonetta now. Dont be angry at me, be angry at nintendo.
Sony and Microsoft could have picked it up but didn't, and missed out on a AAAAE game.
Well Sony picked up Deamon Souls which created a great franchise and they got Bloodborne which is the best game of this gen yet while they most likely still have a partnership for more games to come. What did nintendo gain from picking bayonetta other than killing the franchise?
Metacritic isn't part of the metagame. Only Gamespot scores count here. Sorry.
There is no metagame anymore is there? Now answer my question will you bring up scores to validate the quality of games even when they are high scores for Sony games? And do you truly believe that the PS4 will not end up the best console in the end like every gen?

Exactly. How many of those are new ips with unique experiences? Now how many of those will be exceptional titles?
@deeph: What the hell kind of Sony Kool aid are you drinking?
Bitch please, dont hurt my feelings Im very sensitive.
I'm pretty satisfied with what my Xbone has to offer... so far. But it's still pretty early in the generation & the best is yet to come I think.

Exactly. How many of those are new ips with unique experiences? Now how many of those will be exceptional titles?
The only games that I listed that even HAS a chance to not be good is Detroit: Become Human and Eddith Finch.
New ip for list 1: Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, Until Dawn, Ni-Oh, Alienation, What Remains of Eddith Finch, Deep Down, Detroit: Become Human, Drawn to Death, Dreams, MAtterfall, Rime, Wild, Shadow of the Beast (or maybe it's a reboot of a super old game), The Tomorrow Children, and The Last Guardian.
Exceptional games from the first list: Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, the 3 Yakuza games, Nier Automata, World of Final Fantasy, Ni-Oh, Alienation, Ni no Kuni 2, Deep Down, Matterfall, Rime, Wild, Persona 5, The King of Fighters 14, The Last Guardian, and PT.
Great games from the first list: Disgaea 5, Until Dawn, Gravity Rush 2, Drawn to Death (possible), Dreams (for it's potential), Gran Turismo Sport, Ratchet and Clank, Shadow of the Beast, The Tomorrow Children, and Uncharted 4
The rest are up in the air.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
New IP from second list:
No Man's Sky, For Honor, Cyberpunk 2077, The Evil Within, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Mighty No. 9, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Lords of the Fallen, Shadow of Mordor, Alien Isolation, Hideo Kojima game, and Bloodstained.
Games I'm expecting to be exceptional from list 2 and that are:
Deus Ex Mand Kind Divided, Hitman, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Rainbow Six Siege, Final Fantasy 15, Kingdom Hearts 3, No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 5, XCOM 2, Dark Souls 3, The Evil Within, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Shenmue 3, Lords of the Fallen 2, Hideo Kojima game, Bloodstained.
Games that will be great from said list:
Ghost Recon Badlands, For Honor, Dishonored 2, Mighty No 9, Homefront The Revolution, Lords of the Fallen, Lords of the Fallen 2, Shadow of Mordor, Alienation Isolation
Keep in mind that I only listed a small number of the games we are actually getting and the lists are godly amazing, 2016 alone is the best year of gaming we've had for years.
As for unique experiencecs I don't know what you mean, you mean unique to their franchise or unique as in we have never seen it before? There are plenty of those like Rime, Wild, Dreams, The Tomorrow Children, etc etc
@deeph: What the hell kind of Sony Kool aid are you drinking?
Bitch please, dont hurt my feelings Im very sensitive.
Sony KoolAid! See this is another great idea. You guys are killing it tonight. I would totally buy that!
All the cool kids drink SONY® KoolAid®, tell your friends!
well OP i'll put it like this..im 44. Been gaming since PONG and have had pretty much every single consoles made in the States. Ive stood in line for 9hrs at least 4x for console releases. Ive gamed 24hrs straight more times than i can remember..THIS is the first generation ive yet to buy into. AND honestly unless someone just buys me ONE or PS4 I wont be getting anything this gen. I just dont see the games. PLUS having to install everything. All the updates.Pay to play online still. Splitscreen fun is almost none..Everything seems to be a remake..I just dont see the appeal. BUT thats me..AND if next gen is the same way,...I will not buy then either.
Your best shot at a good gaming experience this generation is Wii U. Otherwise your best bet will be when NX launches.
Read my post, plenty of games this gen now and coming.
I love the Wii U. It is the best console for 2D platformers (my favorite genre) since the SNES and it is the best party machine since the N64. I like it far more than Nintendo's disappointing last gen console and I would even go as far as saying that it is one of my top 5 favorite consoles of all time.
The Xbox One is disappointing in many ways compared to the Xbox 360 (another one of my top 5 favorite consoles), but I still enjoy it and I'm happy with the purchase.
I'm not content with my PS4 purchase yet. I have not even turned it on in months and I probably won't turn it on again until Uncharted 4 is released. Though I was also not content with the PS3 at this same point in it's life, but it made up for it towards the end of the generation. Sony seems to always start weak and finish strong, so we'll see, hopefully they start to turn things around like they did with the PS3, but I worry that they are just going to keep riding in cruise control since they know they already won this generation no matter what.
My feelings for the 3DS are much the same as my feelings for the DS were. I don't really like the hardware, but it has some great games in it's library. Overall, I think the 3DS is a little better than the DS.
I'm not content with the Vita which is sad because on the plus side, I think the Vita has the best handheld hardware design of all time, but it's game library is pathetic. It's a big disappointment as the followup to the PSP which was my favorite handheld ever and had both great hardware and great games.
I dunno. I didn't get onboard the PS3 until 2009 (2.5-3 years?). It looks like a similar situation with the PS4.
I usually prefer my sports games to be on consoles. It's been a while since I bought a sports game.
i agree
I'm having a blast thus far. Only thing I would do different is just get one launch console at a time and wait 1-2 years for others. Too much to play and not enough time, plus consoles /games drop in price, there are hardware bundles, hardware revisions and library of exclusives build up.
@putaspongeon: couple cool games, not into Japanese shit tho, this is Merica. Bro
Ps, indies suck ass
Bloodborne = dark souls but more fast paced/aggressive so more "murica"
Horizon Zero Dawn = post apocolyptic rpg with robot dinosaurs (murica the game)
Until Dawn = nothing more murica than
Yakuza = pretty much if you mix all of the greatest things americans think america has with japanese culture and you have yakuza. For example, in yakuza 2 you fist fight two lions and punch one in the face to send it flying. In 3 you fight a cia agent close range who is trying to shoot you with dual pistols and who has cool shades on.
Gravity Rush 2 = Just like how in america gravity is optional, this game is the same, you fly where you want like an eagle, you control fruits and things to shoot at people and you fist fight like a good murican.
Nier Automata = So aliens invade, we got to the moon, we build cyborgs to defeat the aliens who created giant robots to fight us, it's a hack and slash, it's the american dream.
Ni-Oh = Dark Souls with katanas and giant onis and shit, nothing is more american than a film that keannu reaves would be in.
Alienation = You're a big tough american shooting aliens because they don't know the American way, Murica!!!
Deep Down = So you're in the future (likely america), you use tech shit to go back and time to fight dragons like George Washington wanted, he wrote it in the Declaration of Independence.
Drawn to Death = It's pew pew fun in the artstyle of the little things people would draw when they were ignoring classes in school.
Dreams = Create things like a filthy European or be an American and do the content others create, if you have a 3d printer (you will one day) you can 3d print things that are created in game.
Gran Turismo Sport = Cars
Matterfall = Cool mech suits and shooting shitt with pew pew lasers
Ratchet and Clank = So you're this ferret or something, you go around with your robot sidekick and shoot aliens with disco guns like Obama wants.
Wild = So you're this guy who can control animals (like eagles and fucking bears) in a world that is the size of Europe apparently, you sick bears on cannibal tibes and shit and appease the big boobied animal spirit gods.
Shadow of the Beast = So you're this monster with dual blades coming out of his arms like perma wolverine, you kill shit.
Uncharted 4 = You're pretty much Nathan Fillian x Indiana Jones' lovechild as you sarcastically quip your way through cutscenes while mass murdering 1000's of henchman while swinging around on a hook rope and punching people in the face.
The King of Fighters 14 = Don't let the filthy Europeans be the King of Fighters
The Last Guardian = So you're like as high as shit because you're doing puzzles with a giant chicken dog bird thing.
PT = you can't play this
Deus Ex Mankind Divided = You're a facial haired cyborg in a cyberpunk world who has a heavy smoker's voice as you stealth or go pew pew pew through situations and ocassionally improve your mecha badassery and hack shit murica style.
Hitman = You're a bald bloke who kills people with planning or pew pewing.
Rainbow Six Siege = SWAT power fantasy simulator 2015
Final Fantasy 15 = Road trip with guys who are more attractive than your real life friends as you summon giant gods and fight robots
Kingdom Hearts 3 = Disney is murica
No Man's Sky = You fly around endless space in ships and pew pew things and discover dinosaurs to pew pew to death, space battles too
Ghost Recon Badlands = Fight the cartels with pew pew pew
For Honor = Nothing is more american than vikings that originate from europe killing knights
Cyberpunk 2077 = the next game by the witcher devs, it's clearly in a cyberpunk era where people experience pleasures through others in that you can see life through the eyes of the rich, famous, etc etc. You can also augment yourself but it might make you go wonky and there are police to hunt people like that down, etc etc. Bigger than witcher 3 they say.
Street Fighter 5 = Nothing more Nihon no Murica than arcade fighters
XCOM 2 = You plan a team to fight aliens who took over our great nation, oh and the rest of the world too.
Dishonored 2 = You teleport around and cut peoples throats or just choke them out, etc etc
Dark Souls 3 = Entropy the game
The Evil Within = You're a guy who can run like 10 feet before pantings and having to stop, but you fight monsterous shit with shotguns and crossbows and stuff, you also can stealth kill zombies to death with a knife to their head. The American dream.
Star Citizen/Elite Dangerous = Space stuff
Might No 0 = The guy who made the megaman games, you know megaman, the US's 37th president, yeah, well he's making this game (the guy who made the games, not our 37th president)
Kingdom Come Deliverance = You're pretty much just a regular guy in europe in the age of swords, you have to survive and improve yourself through a very down to earth game in that there aren't heroes mowing down 20 guys, you're just a warrior trying to get by.
Homefront The Revolution = We're murica, north korea took over, we need to stop that from being a thing any longer
Lords of the Fallen = You're a criminal who fights evil
Alienation Isolation = game based on the Alien movie franchise
HIdeo Kojima is more Murican than you are.
Bloodstained = Castlevania guy is making this game
The current and upcoming games line up is exceptional and Murican as hell.
Is this the worst console generation?....no. Is it the best console generation?....no. That being said, I've had a lot of games to play this generation, and to be honest I still haven't come close to finishing my backlog from last generation yet. So for the time being I have put myself on a sort of game buying moratorium until I get caught up. As much as I want to buy Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank and Quantum Break on day one. I will do my best to hold out for awhile until the prices drop, and until I get some more games finished. So my point is that I have found tons of stuff to play this generation.
@spicymeatball27: Xbox one literally only has 3 exclusives this ps4 has over 20.
PS4's lineup was just as good as xbox one's lineup last year.
Even though gaming is going downhill, im still finding some games to play. Recently playing WoT on PS4 and can't wait for UC4.
The Wii U has delivered great experiences in spades.
The rest are just... a joke. It's literally Xbox 361 and PS3.5.
How the hell Wii U delivered great experiences when all their games were exactly the same as previous generation ? What kind of fanboyism is this ?
Name me 2-3 games that stand out this generation than last generation for Wii U ... Mario kart or Smash ? Dont make me laugh ... Mario 3D ? Galaxies were better . Bayonetta or Xeno ?Same experiences as last games . Wii U is as much of one of the same experiences as PS3.5 and X361 you mentioned. No , it might be even worse since lacks all great 3rd party games. Prove me wrong
CyperPunk 2077 // The Last Guardian and various other titles only PS4/X1 are getting will be way more interesting and feel way more fresh than any Wii U title , literally. Period.
