I've spent less money this gen than any previous gen going back 30 years but yet have tons of games thanks to GWG so in that way it's been a Boon, not a Bust. :P
Now, if we're talking the power of the consoles and the excitement for lots-o-games pushing the boundaries then well, eh, yeah, kinda a bust.
This has been one of my favourite generations so far.
Fantastic graphics, console games were never this stable, great AAA games, lots of unique indie games, remaster of many classics, gimmicks like Move and Kinnect and close to extinct, and on top of everything, out from the 80+ PS4 games i own, only 14 were purchased.
The Wii U has delivered great experiences in spades.

I'm satisfied, but that's about it. I like my Wii U and my PS4, and I really like some of the games I've played on them (Bayonetta 2, The Witcher 3, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Metal Gear Solid V, Mario Kart 8, Batman: Arkham Knight, Super Smash Bros., Bloodborne, Xenoblade Chronicles X, to name just a few). But I think this gen feels more like a copy and paste of gen 7 with some ultimately meaningless updates.
I wrote a pretty comprehensive thread about this a few days ago, in fact. This gen just seems like a reiteration of last gen. There's nothing new here. Nothing fresh. So, I mean, I like it, in the sense I liked what I got last gen, and I'm just getting more now (but shinier and bigger), but there's nothing (or rarely anything) that gets me off my seat and makes me go "whoa" anymore.
The 3DS has probably been the best system of the generation so far, but this year is looking excellent for the PS4. Let's hope for the best.
There certainly hasn't been a steady supply of good AAA exclusive games for the consoles, though it's likely too early in the gen to be overly jaded. Although I can see why a console only gamer (especially those with one console) may be feeling let down.
PC is just the same as it has always been, the games come like pellets from an automatic shotgun. Every month there are hits and misses released but there is always something good to play whether it's a multi-plat or full exclusive. Game droughts are certainly far less common than they are on their fixed hardware counterparts.

Wow , you really mentioned Captain Toad ? As for Splatoon as much of a fun game it is , its far from an AAA caliber. Dont get me wrong , Nintendo did a nice job with that one. Its what im debating with many Sheep the last 2-3 years in forums as of what Nintendo missing , NEW IPs that is. Splatoon is definitly in the right direction.
So lets take Splatoon as an AAA caliber IP for the sake of argument and something other platforms missing big time ( which they are not , there are plenty of Arena shooters and more are coming like Overwatchers/Battleborn which Wii U will be missing but lets pretend they havent ) ...
The other 2 you mentioned are not even in the same league of games like Bloodborne , The Witcher 3, Metal Gear solid 5 etc ( not that Splatoon is but as i said for the sake of argument ). So , what was so big of a deal Wii U had except the usual , so far better than Wiis games assuming PS4 is PS3,5 and X1 , X361? Something isnt feeling right is it ? Specially when you go right now at metacritic and see the top 20 games of each console.

This gen so far has been amazing compared to the first 4 years of last gen (which honestly really didn't pick up at all tell it's 5th year)

Then you have this year which is gonna be nuts (I'm sure this list isn't even gonna be complete)
That's not even counting HH games, getting 2 awesome Fire Emblem games in the span of 4 years is amazing. If you think this gen sucks or is lack luster I'd suggest own more than 1 system, get yourself a HH, a decent gaming PC and profit. If you've done that and are still experiencing a "meh gen", I'd suggest you label that shit as a personal problem and find a different hobby.

None of the games you listed are "exactly the same" as their previous iterations. Mario Kart 8 is not "exactly the same" as Mario Kart 7. Smash 4 is definitely not "exactly the same" as Brawl. Bayonetta 2 definitely added and improved a good amount over Bayonetta 1. I agree that 3D World wasn't as good as the Galaxy games, still doesn't change the fact 3D world was still different in terms of controls, platforming, level design etc. from the Galaxy games and it was still a pretty good game nonetheless.
And holy crap you must no absolutely nothing about the Xenoblade series if you honestly believe that Xenoblade Chronicles X is the exact same game as the original Xenoblade. like holy **** that is some serious ignorance on your part. Anyone that has played both games or knows the slightest bit about either game would know you are completely off.
And what about Splatoon? Mario Maker? W101? Affordable Space Adventures? Fast Racing Neo? Probably alot of of other indie games on the eShop as well...

Super Metroid will occasionally slow to a crawl. Like a few frames per second kind of crawl. It's also the best game ever made. My biggest pet peeve? Obsession with performance. Yeah it's sorta important but doesn't actually rate that high.
My biggest pet peeve is the poor performance or broken games. To me, it is very distracting if a game is not technically sound. I don't want to be constantly pulled out of the experience because of poor performance or bugs. Good solid performance should be the standard. It shouldn't even be an issue that is brought up. It should just be at a certain level.
I take it you are new to gaming and never play classic games. Compared to today they look like ass...but man were they fun.
I think the first few years of the last gen felt like that for me and i ended up taking like a 2 year break then bought a new ps3 and caught up on everything and had a blast.
This gen i just didnt bother buying a new console until i felt like i wanted one and I am really enjoying my ps4 right now.
I imagine 16 year olds are loving this gen and will probably be the ones feeling this way in 5, 10, 15 years about a future generation.
Personally the only generation that had me excited from begining to end was ps2 that was the high point of my gaming career.
I think how big online became on last gen is important also because it was part of a huge leap forward from ps2 to ps3/360. This gen feels like an improved version of the last gen, not something fresh.

Of course im keep saying that. AAA caliber games having very high AAA production values and standards from scratch. Doesnt mean they will meet them but thats what they aiming from since the very first art on paper. Game wasnt AAA caliber since its scratch nor it met AAA score in the end. Period.
My proves to that ? Metacritic for score and Wiki that clearly stating that this game made by a single guy before Nintendo gives the ok for further development. Period again.
Its production value was more or less 1 and a half year when other simlar games are into their 3-4th year of development already which again scream "NO AAA CALIBER" let alone that its based in ONE OF THE SAME arena type shooters , that we got plenty of them already , and more are coming ( battleborn / Overwatchers ) with the ONLY difference that you splashing colors on the floor ... If because that single gameplay element makes this arena shooter AAA caliber , im SUPERMAN !\

I have been gaming since the early days. Telestar, Atari, Intellivision, Collecovision, Apple IIe, Commodore 64, 286, etc. There are not many truly classic games. Go back and play most of the old games that you liked and you will see they are not as fun as you remember. Nostalgia can play tricks with your mind.

Neither am I, but good tech creates opportunities for great experiences. I like a total package. Gameplay, performance, feel, visuals, sound design, atmosphere and overall design. All these things matter.
I don't play games as much as i used to due to life being a bitch+responsibilities but bloodborbe, witcher 3 and mgsv were enough to fill my 2015 gaming time. Also this year i started tales of zesteria and i can't wait till SFV and uncharted 4 are out so it seems i have more than enough games to fill the first half of 2016

What's wrong with listing The Witcher 3, MGS 5 has amazing gameplay but it's overall a less fun game I'd say that past mgs games.
Witcher 3 however is a godly step up from witcher 2.
Witcher 3 is one of the best reasons to get a pc or current gen console, it's not exclusive however. If you need something better than witcher 3, you're going to have a hard time finding it.
I don't even have a wii u, bayonetta 2 is leaps and bounds better than the first one though. It's like comparing assassins creed to assassins creed 2.
