 at people calling 3d word a remake. It's as much a remake as galaxy 2 was to galaxy 1Shinobishyguy

3D World is a lazy game. It will probably score 85, while Galaxy 2 on Metacritic scored a 97... and a 10 on here.

Do not compare Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Super Mario 3D World AGAIN. Ever.

3D World to hypothetically Galaxy 3 would be an even closer comparison, and I would argue that SMG3 would be a far bigger rehash than 3D World ever would be. Besides, have you even played the game in the first place or even tried out the demo at Best Buy? Keep your trolling to yourself or prepare to eat crow when GS gives it a 9.5.

Platformers are still my favorite genre, so the Wii U should be great for me at the very least.

there have already been 2 galaxy games while there is only one other 3d land game. Why is this one getting called out while SMG2 did the same thing reusing SMG 1's formula and no one batted an eye?

Then again a microsoft shill like you wouldn't know a good 3d platformer if it hit you square in the face

Why do I feel like the only one looking forward to 3D World, sure it may not be the 3D Mario I was hoping for, but I loved 3D Land. It really bothers me that so many people are acting like they've already played the game, hate it all you want after it releases, and we have more than a little gameplay and a trailer, but all of this premature hate is ridiculous.

Of course, the whole premise of that statement is ridiculous to begin with. A lot of people were wondering why a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy before it was released to critical ACCLAIM. EAD Tokyo knows what they're doing, so give them a benefit of the doubt.

He even calling Wii U the next-gen platform king without the other 2 next-gen consoles being released... damn how biased this guy is sometimes... In a way he is comparing a next-gen product with ..itself!!

The problem is Super Mario Galaxy formula works for consoles. The 3D Land/World works for HANDHELDS, not consoles.

I think that platformers as a genre have lost much of their appeal. They were nice when I was a kid, but most lack the depth and story that I'm looking for in games nowadays...superclocked

As I'm sure you were sincere in your post, I could imagine the next hundred posts I won't waste my time with are saying "nintendo kiddiez, suxxorz, platformer rofllll."

I personally love platformers, particularly good 3D ones.  Nintendo is the only one still pumping life into that genre aside from the odd indie developer.  I like a diversified library.  I can't play nonstop shooters no matter how good they are.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of genres out there that fall under this as well.

That's cute, but PS2 was a different generation, unlike Wii and PS3, which were in the same generation.

PS2 and Wii belong in the same generation.PS3 and XBOX360 are the first HD consoles.....the Wii is SD console like the PS2.

Generations are not determined by power.

Sure I guess. Unfortunately, while I love platformers, this seems to be the only thing they're really working on thus far

Yes I'd agree but the platforming genre looks to be going downhill again after the amazing Galaxy games though.

I basically agree with every you said. Even being underwhelming...it's a Nintendo made Mario platformer. It's guaranteed quality. I'm sure I will enjoy it while waiting for the inevitable large scale 3D Mario their most certainly still working on.

Nintendo already said they will announce the next 3D Mario soon; Meaning that EAD Tokyo are making two 3D Mario titles simultaniously.

Yoshiaki Koizumi may have a second project in the works alongside Super Mario 3D World.

Koizumi is acting as producer on the upcoming Wii U title. But in an interview with Spanish publication El País, he hinted at an additional game.

El País asked director Koichi Hayashida as well as Koizumi about what their next projects are. Hayashida said that Super Mario 3D World is taking up all of his time at the moment, but Koizumis response was pretty interesting:

I can not reveal it now, but soon we will make an announcement.

Could EAD Tokyo be developing another title in addition to Super Mario 3D World?Nintendo Everything

I see many 2D and "2.5D" platformers but no "true" 3D ones.

Which is unfortunate, as I really enjoyed the open-ended and exploration-based gameplay in games like SM64, B-K, DK64, ect.

I don't mind 2D ones, but I'd also like to see some more exploration and adventuring oriented ones.

The problem being some games coming out for the Wii U are 2D platformers. To be a AAA platformer it needs to be 3D that's why no other game on a Nintendo system since Galaxy 2 has been worth getting a Wii U.

As far as I'm aware the only next gen 3D platformer announced is Super Mario 3D World.

[QUOTE="parkurtommo"][QUOTE="cain006"]I thought Trine was pretty bad and was awful as a platformer. It was only good for looking at really.

cain006

I've only played Trine 2, and it's one of the best games I've ever played. I'll admit that that would be mostly due to it's visual fidelity, but it's the only platformer I've played that has actually kept me interested, with non repetitive puzzles. Every puzzle is different, and they are significantly more fun in co op. The story is f*cking terrible though, as is the voice acting, a bunch of cliché terribleness, but who really cares about story in a game like that.

But it's barely a platformer. It's focused on the combat way more than the platforming.

No it's not. Maybe the original was, but not the sequel.

That's true. I've only played the sequel and it has far more enphasis on platforming puzzles than anything else

I'll definitely count Mirror's Edge 2 as a 3D platformer, but there is no way in hell that Knack's a platformer... Unless you can show me gameplay footage that says otherwise, Knack has far more in common with something like God of War

Mirror's Edge is pushing the platformer definition pretty far. It's closer to Prince of Persia. I'd call it a puzzle game, if anything.

My idea for a 3D Mario game is a sequel to Mario 64 where instead of Peach's Castle, Mario has an entire town (with nobody in it at first) to roam free in. Paintings inside houses and shops would, like 64, be portals to new worlds. As stars are earned, more areas of the town are opened up. Maybe as Mario progresses, more and more Toads, etc, are rescued from Bowser and repopulate the town. All of this will lead to a final showdown between Mario and Bowser where Mario climbs to the top of Peach's Castle to enter one final world.

Platformers have always been best on Nintendo system. Its the rest of the genres Nintendo lacks.
