It feels wrong that i still haven't purchased the game
You don't need to, it's not a good one anyway.
would you please calm your package? I liked TW2 which wasn't anywhere near TW3 quality so im pretty damn sure to like this one.
Yeah it’s a shitty game because it’s DRM-free, it’s a shitty game because you get a free DLC every week, it’s a shitty game because graphic and story is too great for a RPG game, it’s a shitty game because side missions ain’t boring like DAI where you waste your time closing some fucking rifts, it’s a shitty game because you people always got something to bitch about …
Well I've become a believer after playing it. It's now on par with Bloodborne but with different kind of merits that made me love BB so much. The world is huge and beautiful, you have a shit-ton to do, the gameplay is not all about killing enemies. It reminds me a lot of Zelda, TW3 is almost like a Zelda game I've always wanted to play.
The only thing that bothers me is the framerate that seems to be all over the place on the PS4. The image quality is great when you compare it to games like Bloodborne ( serious lack of AA), Battlefield 4 (game does run at 60 frames per second though) or even GTAV. I guess they could cut down the AA to make it run smoother.
I happen to like the combat, it's pretty satisfying when you manage to evade attacks and punish your enemies at the right moment, parry, limbs and heads flying around etc. You certainly have to think when you're in battle and not just attack mindlessly.

The game is pretty damn amazing if you dig open-world games and action RPG titles with combat mechanics that aren't hardcore like Dark Souls or button mashing like Diablo, but something in between.
On the other hand, if you don't like the genre, don't buy it.

of course i like it, fully beaten TW2. I dislike the combat system, tho. I also keep hearing how broken and unbalanced the invulnerability spell is (as it was in TW2 but even more so in TW3 when fully upgraded... kinda sad)

Well, I tend to believe that many people declare combat mechanics in TW3 "clunky" because they approach to it with "button mashing" in mind. I have seen many letsplay videos where people never switch between light or heavy attack, or they never evade enemy attack, or they never use signs during the combat. They just "mash" and then whine about how the combat is clunky.
I really should finally finish The Witcher 2 so that I can play this one. I don't know why it always takes me years to get into the Witcher games. Owned the first one for 2 or 3 years until I played through it. I started a few times but never played far and got sidetracked by something else. As soon as I decided to actually invest time into it I couldn't put it down though. Same goes for The Witcher 2. Bought it years ago and I'm still in the first village.
The game has plenty of redeeming features, enough for me to keep playing at least. Then again I'm seeing it to the end regardless because I want to finish the trilogy for myself =P
I just wish they tuned up the combat more. It's servicable at best, but frustrating more often than not. It's not even about it not being in the same vein as Dark Souls either, but how there's too little oomph in your strikes and how Geralt's clunky movement can serve to work against you.
By that alone I wouldn't give this game a 10, but I went in half-expecting this issue. You're still left with a beautifully designed world with plenty of interesting side shit to do. Also, Geralt is an immensely likable protaganist as proven in this game and both Witcher 1 and 2.

Metal Gear Solid 4 gets a bad rap from fans. The gameplay progression from Snake Eater is immense, though. I didn't expect it to feel as tight as it did..
I don't understand peoples complaints with the combat system... seems pretty responsive to me.
My only complain with it is switching signs, it's a pain the in arse, would be better if you could have a toggle between at least two signs as in many fights you need magic trap.
Im not sure why people are suprised by the terrible combat system. The Witcher series is well known for its bad combat.
lol what? alchemy build is actually the best to go when you're playing Death March.
invest in the potions and geralt is basically a god who kills monsters in a few hits. It's also the most lorefriendly with the books since geralt takes a lot of potions before fighting monsters.

yeah again, cool opinion, too bad nobody gives a fuk about it.
I remember reading a thread from a guy who was totally convinced that The Witcher 3 had shit combat. He was talking up how he was a veteran of the Souls games, how great he was at other games; and how fundamentally broken TW3 was.
Then he posted his own gameplay video.
It immediately became clear why he hated the combat - he was playing *terribly*. The guy kept rolling around like an idiot. He only used light attacks. He never sidestepped. He never countered a single weapon swing. He used signs really poorly. He locked on to single enemies in the middle of huge group fights. Basically, he played the game like it was Dark Souls...and wondered why he was losing.
So yeah, I now take the "poor combat" complaints with a huge grain of salt. It's not a perfect combat system, but a lot of the complaints simply come down to user error.
Hehe, yeah... ask people to describe in detail how they fight in this game when they talk about how awful it is. They are usually doing something absurd. Now - I'm not saying the combat is great. It's not. But it's absolutely solid, I strongly feel it's better than most RPGs (c'mon, Elder scrolls? DA:I?), better than its own predecessors (thankfully), and if you actually take the time to fight like a real person would (try a sidestep once in a while or a parry or dodge) you'll discover the combat is actually skill-based and somewhat realistic (for the setting and limitations of the design). I'm sorry, but people looking for DmC or something are looking for a different type of combat, not a better/more realistic type of combat
Combat system.
Interesting having played Ocarina Of Time recently (16 year old game), it makes the Witcher 3 appear to be an embarrassment when it comes to responsiveness and combat, all while capped at an N64 20fps.
Standards just aren't what they use to be.

I care an awful lot about my own opinion. So that's not "nobody" =(
No

The only ones who are bashing on the game are either:
1. JRPG fanatics
2. people who played the game at easy difficulty
3. people with no taste in good stories
Or all of the above.

Attacking character rather than addressing the topic is generally a sign of admission.

i am a pc gamer, but i sometimes revel in the dark pleasures of peasantry.
His OP and thread title misleading.
He gave the game 8/10 and he is complaining about why others call Witcher 3 a shit game. He himself thinks it's a good game, but doesn't deserve a 10/10.
TBH this just another pointless click bait thread like the 10s of others made on here every week. Its like all these people tryna win some stupid online popularity contests instead of actually debating the intricacies of a game or the industry. This thread is literally just, "post the score you think this game should have gotten and controls suck x100" pathetic and quit copy pasting what someone already said.

Which is defined as "character assassination"
To me, the best RPG of all time. Maybe even the best game of all time, but that's hard to judge. That is all.

To say that we have a problem here would be an understatement.
Many a gamers seem to bash The Witcher 3 as some sort of piece of asscrap game. With a terrible combat sytem, watered-down WRPG elements and a gratuitous amount of sexscenes. Even the local SJWs have come to criticism the Witcher as "misogynistic." Is The Witcher 3 actually NOT Poland's greatest contribution to the world?
My experience with the game was that it had an absolute god awful combat system, but decent everything else. A solid 8/10 in my opinion. However, I am afeared to say that The Witcher 3 may not be as good the world believes it is.
"Even the local SJWs have come to criticism the Witcher as "misogynistic."" Why the hell does it matter what SJW's say? They're full of shit
I have Witcher and the first Witcher novel. I don't see that much appeal in Geralt and his adventures, just my thought.

Every game ever made, no matter its critical reception or sales gets bashed by some. No one thing will ever entertain every person. Hence its all subjective.

i've seen a couple of videos from people and are terrible at playing it, i love crafting, preparing before the battle, taking the potions, using the oils, playing it in hardest difficulty is simply awesome, plus the people complaining are morons that usually watch a couple of videos, the combat has great variety, for example i was going for a sign build and i enjoyed reading the bestiary and the monster weaknesses and it made the combat quite easy even on highest difficulty, knowing the difference between when to roll and dodge and when to lock and when not to makes a huge impact also on combat. Sadly this gen is full of morons with the attention span of a bird that can't be bothered to waste a couple of minutes to read or to analyse what they are doing wrong.
Agreed 100%.

Didn't a lot of those people also bash Dark Souls for the same thing? I thought I remembered people doing that.
What's with the circle jerk of dumbasses, trying to convince themselves that Witcher 3 isn't an easy game? You can mash one button in Death March difficulty and still beat the anti-climatic final boss, lol.

Hey mate, here's a jolly good idea. Why don't you **** off with that kind of attitude and, I don't know, let people who actually played the goddamn game have their own opinion which isn't in accordance with yours?

Most rpgs have the same problem, if you explore and do side quests you usually get to the last boss overpowered, even the "infamous" souls series have this problem, i can 2 shot last bosses with my builds, it is the pay off for knowing what you are doing.
I personally never found the difficulty of a game to damage my enjoyment, i love the souls series while i also love the ezio trilogy of assassins creed and they are in different sides of the spectrum in difficulty.

He could have posted the same sentiment with a better tone but I think his basic point is that saying "you're just terrible at it" is not a good defense for the combat, especially when the game is not difficult. Also, even people who are not bad at the game have been saying that the combat is questionable.
