Is x-box live worth $50

Well this is where your arguement falls apart. Where did i say PSN was ****? Where? At all? I didn't. I just said xbox live was much better. I even said that xbox live definately isnt worth $50.

So really, what do you want from me here? I've criticised both and that still isnt enough for you. And you calling me a fanboy has EVERYTHING to do with me disagreeing with you, as you simply read my post and jumped to "rofl fanboy!" which doesnt make any sense whatsoever.

I dont understand the hostility here. I even said xbox live isnt worth $50. I'm not saying PSN is crap, xbox live is just better. Sometimes it's not as simple as just listing features, but if you really insist:

xbox live is more unified. The quality of PSN changes from game to game, mostly because the developers do most of the work themselves. Xbox Live has the same set up on every game you play, so you know you'll get optimatch, ranked matches, social matches, and more recently matchmaking, though that obviously isnt in every game. The marketplace also has infinately more content, and every time you turn on the box there's something else there to look at. The gamercard system is also really great, and allows you to see what your friends are doing down to the tiniest detail like what street they're on in crackdown. I like being able to pull up a table of all the games i've played with a comparison of the progress my friends have made on those games.

Inviting friends, getting parties together and such is also incredibly easy regardless of the game you're playing. On PSN, stuff like that really comes down to what game you're on.

That is why i think xbox live is much better. Disagree by all means, it's just my opinion.

While I think LIVE is better then PSN at the moment, saying that LIVE is vastly superior is a gigantic overstatement. If LIVE is 100%, PSN is 90-94%

i would have to agree.. for me, the only features that truly seperate XBL from PSN is definitely cross-game voice chat and maybe cross-game invites (not really, but it'd be nice)...

i wouldnt say that this makes XBL "vastly" superior.. just a little more streamlined..

and yea, when Home is released that'll be another feather in the cap of PSN and that's one thing that XBL doesnt have... this is not to mention that things like cross-game voice chat and cross-game invites can be added to PSN via firmware update just like the in-game XMB, trophies, and in-game custom soundtracks were added.. so it isnt even like those things are permanent advantages for XBL anyway...

look, microsoft is making money of this thing, Sony is watching. Sony said they would charge if they needed to. Sony is not stupid, I don't think they will let Microsoft make money like that when they can easily do it themselves.

just let them keep chipping away on Microsofts lead, start giving people more games to drool over, and once they got a nice lead, if it happens but don't see why not with such a huge fanbase Sony has, and BOOM! start charging for online.

It's definately pocket change yes. In fact, it's an incredibly insignificant amount of money when you think about it, but that's not really the point. Cheap or not, i'd rather not just throw money away for something if it isn't worth the asking price.

My supermarket has fancy mineral water for $8 a bottle. $8 is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but why the heck should i pay for it?

How about cross game invites, cross game chat, cross platform accessability through PC and soon to come, party room chat where 8 people can be in one chat while even playing completely different games. From that same party chat will come the option of having the room split up however it wants to go and game together or seperately and automatically form a party in their respective game. Netflix on 360 where a host can invite up to 7 others to watch the same movie streamed to their own 360 even if they don't have a Netflix account.

Those sure seem to be some great advantages of XBL gold if you ask me. If you're okay with a HD version of 2nd Life (wait.....that's still not out? :lol:) and a version of XBL from 3 years ago, that's fine by me. I'll be enjoying the much better experience ONLY offered through XBL. Enjoy the one that's ALWAYS playing catch up.

I dont mind paying for maps and stuff like that; something a developer has worked for and spent money developing, so long as they're good.

Paying for avatar pictures or themes is rediculous thouygh, when they're essentially just JPEGs cropped to fit a certain shape. Heck, it's unbelievable when you think about it that gold members pay $50 a year, yet still have to pay if they want to download some gamerpics, or whatever they're called.

Well what you say is true but the way I look at it,if it's not going to change,just live with it. MS is not going to make Live free anytime soon and I would gladly pay the price to play Gears and Halo online.

I think Live is a great service and I give MS a lot of credit for bringing this kind've service to consoles. But it's not the best in everything like a lot of lemmings like to believe. There are things that PSN does better as well.

-Sonys willingness to work with developers and support bigger download games

-Sonys willingness to support MODS for UT3

-Support for bigger games that are lag free like Warhawk 32 players, Resistance 40 players, R2 up soon with 60 players, down the road MAG 256 players

-Support for remote access thru PSP

-Internet Browser support (although it is needing an update)

-Everyone gets demos day one, not so on X360

-Free

-One of my favorites, PS games bought thru the store work on my PS3 and PSP, cheap way to get games to take on the road

-Less restrictive DRM and don't need to be online to play games I already paid for.

I do mind downloading maps for money to a certain extent. Its crazy that a really good fps game this gen has not come out with a map editor but all thats gonna change come fall when far cry 2 comes out. Thats probably gonna be the only shooting game I will buy this fall but I will also get socom as well.

I don't think I'm gonna get Resistance 2 but you never know. I think far cry 2 will be the better game but only time will tell.

sure, XBL is "better" overall than PSN.. but that is mainly due to the fact that XBL has been around much longer than PSN and Sony is basically playing "catch up" at this point.. it's not like your $50 a year is going towards getting exclsuive features that the non paying XBL members will never have access to.. nearly every feature that's available to an XBL Gold member is also available to a XBL Silver member.. so what are you paying for??.. are you purely paying to gain access to the online multiplayer portion of the games that you already own?.. for me, that's absurd...

Maybe I just think it's worth it because of how often I'm on it. All my friends have a 360, none of them have a PS3, so my 360 gets a lot of online playtime

I almost never play online so for me no. For others if they play a lot online then yes.

So if I do play it is on the PS3 or Wii because it free. Last time I was online was either with Mario Strikers or Warhawk about a month ago.

No I don't think its worth it, its not that $50 a year is alot because it isn't. Its just the principle of the matter. Why should I have to pay for online multiplayer when any PC game with online capability(excluding MMOs) offer it for free. Same with PSN, free. It strikes me that Microsoft is just plain being greedy when they charge for XBL.

XBL is definately a great online experience and paying $50 a year for it definately isn't alot, its just not worthwhile. Maybe its just because of who I am, but I don't like paying for something I've already payed for, especially when similar services are offered elsewhere for free.

I have the same opinion of MMOs(hence why I play Guild Wars rather than WoW) but thats a rant for another day :P
