@Xabiss: Apology accepted. I understand, I get rough days at work too. I like us to be civil even though this place is called SW, there’s no reason we can’t be trolling friends ?

I'm laughing at someone who owns a 980 Ti, why would you ask me if I own one...lol. I'm asking if you own one because you seemed so curious at my "stupid insinuation". Asking what's wrong with it. Seemed like you were getting defensive...lmao.

It may be losing this gen, but “dead” is a bit of an exaggeration.

Sadly it never was alive to start with.

Way to late, base xbox was a dud that you simple shouldn't have builded further on. They would have been better to launch xbox two with the xbox one x and actually push a proper system.

@i_p_daily: PC is the Xbox gamer's friend, they help increase software sales numbers for Xbox titles. You should love and respect them.

Nah PC is like that friend we all have that thinks he's right all the time (60fps is best) while talking down about others (consoles suck because they can't maintain 60fps all the time) and thinks he's entitled to everything (MS games without having to pay for a console/live) because he thinks he's better (master race) than everyone else, we tolerate him because we feel pity on him (no one cares about PC) because he tries to fit in, but just doesn't :(

Xbox gamers are just desperate to keep the brand going for whatever reason.

Maybe, just maybe because it provides a slightly different experience as opposed to the other 2 consoles.

Sony are all for SP experiences & movie game garbage, and Nintendo makes shall we say less mature games and if you're not a fan of its characters there's nothing for you, and with MS its more focused on MP and racing games which is what I like.

As for PC, well i couldn't give a shit like most people LOL.

Not everyone is tech savvy, eh?

Nah just don't give a shit about PC LOL.

It cracks me up. At 45 years old, having studied myself in effort to grow, and studied psychology as well, people still defend their behavior like they are the first humans to act this way. Its like people that try to tell me Trump has a lot of confidence. No. Confidence is quiet because it doesn't need to prove anything with talk. Cowards make the most noise.

That's a total lie, it's not even close to the top 10. It will have to break the 80 million units sold barrier in order to do that, and considering Xbone sales are stalling around 35 million right now there's no way it's gonna do that.

Dude, how long has it been at 30 something million? Feels like a year. Look at those Japan sales 0.09 wtf. Is the Xbox One just pure marketing, because they're making like it's doing great and it's a big thing, like it has a comparable vibe to the PS4, according to that, it just passed the N64. Now I loved the N64, but it got it's ass handed to it in terms of the vibe it had during it's time.

Those are life support numbers, no wonder all of it's games are also on the PC, they can't afford to make those big budget games on a system that sells like the Xbox One does... Basically the Xbox One isn't really a viable business platform for exclusives, that's embarrassing dude.

I don't think Phil Spencer is doing the great job people think. MS dumped Kinect and the prices came down, so the thing actually started selling. But not significantly, at a basic rate, sure.

Why would it be dead? Millions play it. I use it mostly only for BC.

People are so dumb nowadays saying everything is dead. They say CoD is dead and even though i hate Noob of Duty how the hell is it dead when so many people play it? Just because it doesn't have the numbers of another mainstream casual game Fortnite. Wow...

Phil Spencer is an excellent PR guy. He's somehow managed to convince lems and gullible people out there that the Xbox is an international system when it really is only a regional system at this point. Majority of its sales are coming from US and UK while it's pretty much dead outside those two markets. Thanks to Phil and MS' marketing, people still believe Xbone is in the race when it's already been completely destroyed by the PS4 outside of US and UK. It's why I keep saying the gen is over and angry lems keep attacking me.

There's absolutely no way MS can bounce back this gen and they know it. Everything they are doing now shows a company that's stalling and trying to stop the bleeding of money. Yes you're right, the reason we have Play Anywhere is because the Xbone can't support the MS exclusives on its own. Somehow MS and Phil have convinced lems that they are doing Play Anywhere out of some sense consumer friendliness when the truth is that they've done it out of necessity. Last gen when 360 was doing fantastic they had real exclusives because they could.

This gen has been a total disaster for them, and they never recovered from that disastrous E3 and Kinect. They dumped Kinect shortly after launch and even that wasn't enough. The sad thing is that sales have started stalling, even the launch of the X hasn't been enough to revive sales. So I believe what they are gonna do after E3 is to start laying the groundwork for next gen. This gen is pretty much over for them, and the best thing they can do is to start preparing their studios and library for next gen. It's been proven that they can't compete with Sony when Sony is at their A game, so they are gonna have to come up with some new strategies or next gen could be a similar repeat of this gen.

Not by a long shot. It's just not enjoying the kind of success the PS4 (and Switch) has.

Thanks to the HDR and 4K capabilities it's the primary console in my living room. The PS4 is just used for netflix in my bedroom.

So why not just buy a smart TV for your bedroom and a 4k player for your living room since you don't use them for games apparently. Doesn't seem like you make the best consumer choices.

I think the Xbox One X was a mistake. It already cost $500. MS aren't going to be able to build something for next gen that's significantly more powerful within that sub $400 consumer console budget. MS are stuck with their current situation for a long time to come imo. They could start to cut Xbone support and start making Xbox One X only games that aren't held back for Xbone.

They also need to start nurturing some great 1st party studios and talent.

That's quite the impressive deception, making out that it is an international success. The truth is far from it.

The X is actually a massive success compared to the pro, no matter how you spin it.

The reviews, all the enhanced games and future titles at 4k.

I know a ton of 4k tv owners who own an X because its pretty much an entry into 4k gaming.

The console is a success in NA already.

How many of those were already xbox one owners?

I'd imagine most of them. People who weren't already invested in xbox one are not likely to feel the need to pull the trigger on an updated xbox one when there are better alternatives at more competitive prices.

Also, how exactly are you comparing the X sales to the Pro? Do you actually have data to back that assertion up or are you just speculating based on what you think is happening?

I actually think the X is a suicide bomb move by MS to get a boost in sales from gullible xbox fans who would purchase anything they release before they release their real next gen console.

Honestly, it was completely irresponsible to release something as powerful as the X and NOT have in marketed as the next iteration of console that would ALSO have games specifically made to take advantage of it's power, UNLESS that console is a bait and switch move that is meant to only stall the death of the current system before releasing one that has games made for it.

Think about it, they've been hyping the X for 18 months, and have 0....ZERO games that are releasing that actually take advantage of it's power because they want to slave off the sales of the current box.

When Nintendo released an all new iteration of console/hybrid last year to cut off from Wii U and having unprecedented success even with them not sharing the library of games the previous system built MS knew they F'ed up.

The X should have been a new generation of console, but then again I think MS never intended to support the X which is why it has 0 game that take advantage of it now.

Dead? Hardly. Competitive? Not so much.

This generation is pretty much over for Microsoft. Doesn't mean they cannot make some strides towards the next though.

The Xbox appears to have been profitable this gen despite their giant floundering. They certainly have a long road ahead of them if they want to become competitive going forward.

Maybe, or they might start to starve the Xbone and move on to Xbox One X only support as the price comes down. Leaving MS with a next gen already in place.

Releasing something as powerful as the Xbox One X really does put them in a corner where next gen is difficult to attain. Last gen lasted 8 years and the best they could with that budget was PS3 to PS4. So it wouldn't be easy.

Or maybe MS aren't thinking about gens and they're just working on the business side of things. In which case, they should REALLY be working on talent and studios.

@dagubot: Whats wrong with a 980ti?

Nothing's wrong with a 980ti. It is still a good GPU in 2018 but it's not as efficient as say the GTX 1070 which consumes less power and gives equal or slightly more performance. I never got myself a 980ti and just stuck to using my good old 970 until I got myself a 1070 back in 2016 and now, a 1080ti and don't need to upgrade for 3/4 years from now.

If you already own a 980ti, it's still good by today's standards, no need for an upgrade unless you wanna game in fully 1440p/60fps.

1440/60 is easily achievable with a 1080 Ti... Not sure what meant with "unless" you wanna game fully. 1440/144 is another story for that you will need a 1080 Ti... But for 1440/60 or 1080/144 a 980 Ti will do that with ease.

Hell a after market 980 Ti can run some games like:

  • Doom
  • BF1
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Fallout 4
  • Fortnite
  • Overwatch

At 1440p with 80-100FPS with ease... these are just a few I can think of off the top of my head. The 980 Ti is to this day still a beast and unless you have a 4K or a 3440x1440 100Hz monitor the 980 Ti or GTX 1070 level of GPU is all you could ever need and upgrading won't drastically change much.

I had a 1070 and upgraded to a 1080 Ti because I was running a 40" 4K monitor and at 4K the 1070 with games like BF1 I got 70-90FPS on High settings.

Ultra is a waste. I have a 1080 Ti and drop from Ultra in almost every game so I can get 100FPS minimum.

980 Ti at 1440/60 99.999% of the time is easy work.

No, because:

  • Nintendo consoles are under-powered and don't get enough 3rd party support and therefore need to be paired with another system.
  • Sony is too obsessed with movie-games which has become a turn-off to many gamers and they also don't offer as good of an online service, controller, and pro-gamer features as the Xbox has.
  • Many people don't like playing games on a PC and instead want the console experience.

Due to those three reasons, there is still a big market for the Xbox One.

How can something die when it was never alive in the first place?

As of now: Life support/massive failure for microsoft. I can see MS just saying screw it and quit making consoles. They have never made a profit from them and hide the losses in their other divisions. Might as well just keep the xbox brand on PC and quit console making.

@tgob89: @HalcyonScarlet: You both bring up some excellent points. I too think the 1X ws a mistake. They should have just made it a next gen console and started afresh like Nintendo did with the Switch. This generation-less experiment they tried with the 1X has been a failure. It sold decently well when it launched but wasn't enough to help them get into the fight.

It's only selling to people already in the Xbox ecosystem instead of bringing new gamers in. They should have launched a new system with new games exclusive to it and that maybe could have excited people enough to buy the system. Right now the console is a dud and it will make them look stupid when they have to launch a new console again in a year or two.

If there was a big market like you claim it wouldn't be selling like shit right now. They have both the cheapest and most powerful console categories covered and their sales are still stalling. Face it, Xbone is a niche console that caters to a small subset of gamers out there.

Xbox is killing it with the constant updates to xbox live, bc and x1x enhanced games, mixer integration, xbox game pass, 1st party multiplayer/co-op games, game preview bringing some hot pc titles, ea access and so on. Xbox is well and alive, Playstation and Switch are on life support in the online category.

Yep... cows tend to conveniently forget these details.

As I've said before, if MS can bolster their 1st/2nd party output (which it looks like they're doing), then Sony should be worried. Because atm that's the only advantage they have over MS.

I feel like the XBox One is doing well enough, and it has games I want to play.

The games they produce may not always be right on the money, but Microsoft has done a fantastic job at making some really eclectic games the past two gens.

I don't think Microsoft has really given up on trying to grow their 1st & 2nd party devs, I just think over the years they've reached the conclusion that if a project just isn't working - don' t waste time on it - do something else.

My case might be a unique one because in addition to the current gen exclusives and multiplats I've been getting, I just decided one day, "Okay...All of those XBOX and XBox 360 games I owned and liked or was interested in? I'm going to get them again and give them another shot." Microsoft's focus on BC and X-enhanced games really kind of alligns with what I want, extending the life of beloved games.

It helps that I already purchased some great games on LIVE Arcade before too that are BC.

I like that they're also an American console company. I want them to succeed and do well. I feel like there's a lot of possibility for the future of the xbox brand, it just faces some tough competition from the established development houses under Sony and Nintendo.

I've got Pc, PS4 and Xbone.

Xbox is my main console Because compared to ps4

The store is cheaper and easier to navigate. (I hate searching in the PS store on my ps4)

The Controller feels better (tho I do like the ps4 controller lights and touchbar)

There's gamepass and heaps more Apps they also work a lot better . (PS now isn't available in Aus)

Gold is cheaper than Ps+ on a monthly base ($5 if you wait a week after it expires vs $12)

DVR and Voice commands (I don't own the ps4 camera)

Its a great media hub

I also HATE smart TV's I would like a non smart 4k tv but they pretty much don't exist.

Backwards compatibility though to be fair I've used it like twice.

PS4

Had better games for me but Kingdom hearts is now on Xbox,

God of War and Infamous are the only games really left though because I don't like anime games.

Forgot About SPIDERMAN and MEDIEVIL I cant wait for them.

Xbox is by far the most alive and exciting. For proof, look no further than GS SW, it's the most talked about system 24/7. Good stuff. :P

Their Inside Xbox show didn't show that much. They showed an hour and a half of Sea of Thieves footage. At least they're getting multiplatform games.
