It is a FACT that the Dual Shock 3 is better than the Xbox 360 controller.

People that argue that the Xbox 360 controller is superior always have the same argument. They say that it is more comfortable. Well, that is subjective, that is an opinion. To some people, the Dual Shock 3 is more comfortable, to others, the Xbox 360 controller is more comfortable, this argument holds no weight at all as it is purely subjective and opinion.

These things are NOT an opinion.

The Dual Shock 3 uses motion sensing (6 axes), better known as Sixaxis support. The Xbox 360 controller does not support this or anything like it.

The Dual Shock 3 uses 3.7 V Li-ion Battery, USB Host Powered. The Xbox 360, by default, is powered by AA batteries which is a thing of the past, practically prehistoric.

The Dual Shock 3 has a wider range of motion along with higher precision with the D-Pad. The problem with the current Xbox 360 controller's D-pad is that there is too much give in the plastic piece that sits on top. Also, the circular cut-out is not always lined up perfectly to fit inside the controller's casing, so the edges can hit the controller too. Long story short, the defects in design lead to accidental directional commands and ultimately frustrated gamers.

The Dual Shock 3 has a pressure sensitive D-Pad and pressure sensitive face buttons. The 360 controller does not support pressure sensitivity for either.

The Dual Shock 3 analog sticks have 10-bit precision, allowing a higher level of precision when compared to the Xbox 360 controller, which uses 8-bit analog precision, the same level of precision used by GameCube, PS2, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, etc.

So yeah, it may be your OPINION that the Xbox 360 controller is more comfortable to hold, but just as many people think that the Dual Shock 3 is more comfortable to hold. That doesn't matter anyways, as it is just a loose, subjective opinion that holds no weight anyways. When you look at the actual specs and the actual facts between the controllers, the Dual Shock 3 is a much better controller and it is not debatable.

FACT!!

Terrible triggers are terrible. Controller is garbage for shooters. 360 controller has a garbage Dpad making it terrible for fihgters and 2D platformers generally. Each has ups and downs. Tech doesn't make the best controller, practical use does.

Wrong.

I like the triggers. I think the DS3 is great for shooters.

You see how this works? You throw around loose opinions trying to make an argument. It doesn't work. The only way you can make an argument is by using facts. Specs are facts.

Specs are data. That doesn't at all make them facts that you can use to fuel an opinion based debate. but really, those triggers suck :P

I think that atleast amound my friends the general opinion is the PS3 is a terrible shooter pad but not a bad pad overall. 360 pad is creppled by the worst Dpad ever. Not facts opinion, this will always be an opinion piece, we all have different sized hand, feeling thresholds etc. Some stupid specifications don't make a better pad, sorry bud.

This is highly underated for some reason yet is my main issue when going from PS3 to 360. Everything feels half a second slower as movements can't be performed as quickly. The only advantage i can see in the 360's triggers for shooters is that it's probably easier to use two fingers to use both the bumper and trigger on xbox, something more minor than the dead zones.

The Dual Shock 3 uses 3.7 V Li-ion Battery, USB Host Powered. The Xbox 360, by default, is powered by AA batteries which is a thing of the past, practically prehistoric.
Its a confirmed fact that using batteries the 360 controller has longer battery life by about 40 hours then the ps3 controller and using the play and charge kit? has longer battery like by about 50 hours. *gamepro study*

I'm terrible at FPS, the extra delay gives me a better chance to plan stuff :P Obviously I'm entitled to an opinion but I would never argue that I have a super definitive educated FPS pad opinion. I hate shooters :P

I agree. I've never liked Xbox controllers, though the originals were worse. I can live with the 360 controllers, but they feel so chunky and unwieldy in my hands. I do like the transposed analog and divoted tops though, wouldn't mind seeing Sony implement those.

i like both but i just like the ps3s battery, iv gone through 4 battery packs and 3 charging cables for the 360. plus iv had 2 360 controllers slowly breakdown on me through out this gen so i think the ps3 controllers are just better made. i like both tho just wish 360 stuff was as sturdy as ps3 stuff

Other than the DPad, the 360 controller feels better in almost every respect. I will admit some games feel more at home on the Dual Shock simply because earlier games in their respective series were on the Playstation/Playstation 2, but overall the 360 curb stomps the Dual Shock 3.

Oh, in my opinion.

Oh, I also liked not having to worry about batteries on my DS3, but I guess batteries are the price for near perfection.

1. It's your opinion that AA batteries are "prehistoric". I've still got AA baterries and batteries in general powering quite a few remotes and devices around. My opinion is that they are still usable.

2. Accidental commands can happen on all controllers. You say the Xbox 360 controller has a defect in design because of that? Sometimes I mis-select a menu option because of the 360 d-pad. Sometimes I lock up my brakes in a racing game too fast because the DS3's trigger resistance is weak. Sometimes I don't point the Wii Remote correctly and it becomes unresponsive. What you consider a defect and what I consider a defect are two different things. You can say there "is too much give in the plastic piece that sits on top" and I can say "The triggers on the DS3 give way too easily."

What was all that about "I posted only facts" again?Even if the DS3 has more advanced technology going on, that does not make it "better" than any other controller.

So, your title is "It is a FACT that the Dual Shock 3 is better..."...I think you're confused as to what a fact is, TC. Really, the only way the DS3 could be factually better is if, i dunno, the 360 controller was on fire.

The DS3 is the peak of control in my opinion. Nothing is more versatile. I use it as a gamepad for emulators and it works better than the original controllers most of the time. I used to think the triggers sucked, but I've come to realize how good they really are. The grip can get a little uncomfortable sometimes. Give it Gamecube grip and it would be perfect.

Barring mouse and keyboard Dual shock is better for shooters due to less tension and smaller dead zone and flower because its the only game that six axis actually enhances the experience for everything else I prefer the 360 controller I like the size, triggers, analog placement, buttons and overall feel better then the dualshock. For fighters I use the analog stick I have not tried the new redesigned 360 controller but the original d-pad does suck miss clicks happen way to often. The 3rd party hori turbopad ex2 improves upon the regular with the best d-pad on any controller same high quality feel and a bigger and even more comfortable shape imo. The dead zone is worse though and same stiff analog stick so not as good as the dual shock for precision control. If someone could take the design of the hori and combines it with the razer onza adjustable tension analog sticks and make it wireless that would be the ultimate controller for me stupid microsoft not letting third parties make wireless controller.

I much prefer the 360 controller. Has a much better weight to it and doesn't feel like it's going to break easily unlike my sixxas. Also the triggers on my Sixxas (did they fix them on DS3? are rubbish.)

FACT!!

arkephonic

finally someone who understands this.

Thought i was the only one. After putting the comfort thing aside and actually look at the technical aspects of each controller, PS3 wins handsdown.

TO ALL THE PEOPLE that keep saying TC's opinion is wrong, or i stil prefer 360 controller etc etc.

Well explain why the 360 controller is better (not the comfort reason because that is fully subjective.) NOw beyond comfort please give other reasons.

now when comparing the technical aspects of the two controllers:

USB charging > AA batteries (who would disagree)

Six-axis > no six-axis (who would disagree...and people who say six axis is a gimick? well try using it with warhawk, it works like a charm)

More precision as the TC explained.

PS3 controller wins handsdown.

I agree. AA batteries? Might be fine for a fisher price toy for a baby. not a $50 controller.

And yet it's too small and hurts my hands after more than an hour of play. It also lacks decent triggers.

360 controller is comfortable and better designed overall for actual use.

M&KB owns boths.

Motion sensing makes PS3 controller worse, so 360 controller is better = FACT.. hmm interesting logic you have there.

as ive said. Motion sensing is amazing in warhawk. go play it. I only use motion sensing in that game and used the six-axis for about 4 months of playing warhawk.

That might be your opinion though, so i can't argue. BUt i can say that i like its motion sensing (when implemented correctly). afterall, having it is better than not having it.

and it still amuses me how people that say the 360 controller is better have no other thing to say besides "ohh ive never met another friend who likes PS3 over 360, etc."

So ill repeat myself:

Please give actual reason as to why the 360 controller is better.

clearly it isn't since it uses AA batteries, has no motion sensing, has less precise analogs.
comfort: thats a whole different issue because it's subjective. I know friends who like the ps3 controller over the 360, and the other way around.
