I don't understand you people, if every game came out looking like a wii game on PS3 and 360 you all would be QQing like no other.

but you gota admit that having great graphics didnt make these games any worse, and im sure they wouldnt have gotten the review scores that they did if they had crappy graphics, so while its not ALL about the graphics, having good graphics is still an important part of a games appeal.

While I totally agree with you, from what I hear Crysis has an awesome story as well. BUT that is just what I hear.

ALSO I tried making a post like this a while back...you just get eaten alive by the people who care about graphics. And I can see both sides of the argument. I want a good story out of my games, that is what is important to me. But...I am not going to go into the rant I did type.

This thread will tank, or you will be picked clean. May you fare well my graphics fighting friend.

Not everybody plays games just for fun.

Visuals provide a level of immersion to accommodate an artistic and emotional narrative where being there and experiencing an alternate interpretation fo real life adds almost as much entertainment value as pressing the buttons. This is why people play games like Gran Turismo as opposed to Mario Kart or Call of Duty to Metroid.

A game is not necessarily good because of the graphics, but having solid gameplay and story plus good graphics just makes it that much more immersive. Having good graphics never hurt a game, except maybe Crysis just because of the people who's PCs were incapable of playing it.

its funny how people always play the 'all graphics and no gameplay' card when in fact history shows us the best games usually have the best graphics for the time.

ironic.

That's because most of the scenes are CGI's. People still complainedabout the "real" graphics when it was out because the noticed that the characters are badly detailed when not fighting and because the backgrounds when in an area are just pictures XD

While I agree...you must also know that "Super-Realism" isn't the only form of art that is desirable...right? Yet this is what is always seen throughout the gaming industry. One of the most well known artists of all time Pablo Picasso by no stretch of the imagination was a super realist. He was very modern and abstract. Yet if a game was to go bold and colorful it would be shot down for it's graphics. So no...the fact that it is "artistic" doesn't hold up, in fact it shows a LACK of artistic knowledge or taste in the gaming community.

yeah graphics can and do improve the overall game experience making a game more immerse and atmospheric and yes if just a little more fun to play. i mean look at how many old games wouldn't you like to see a remake with the visuals of today Ocarina of Time with crysis level visuals would be Epic!!!

But...WHAT!? do you know what you are talking about? You are obviously around 14 and never been kissed by the realization that FF7 is the reason that a majority of the games you love are even allowed to exist. I'm not even going to waste anymore time on this.

I would agree IF todays graphics were actually life-like but they're not. Even if they do look MORE realistic than arcade types they still don't look photo-real and are still heavily over-stated.

It doesn't matter. Whether they're realistic or not, if they're well done for their time they can still be immersing, just like movie special effects. Go back and watch any movies from the 90's or 80's. The special effects are pretty mediocre by today's standards, but it was immersing stuff for their time.

Same can be said for the arcade design or any older movie. Big Country is a much better movie than Transformers will ever be. If you like the stIle and have an imagination anything can be immersing. Todays graphics are simply over-rated that's all there is to it.

Don't get me wrong I love good graphics too and they can make a difference in games like Assassin's Creed 2 and sandbox games etc. I'm just saying some people act like they're the be-all, end-all to games when they're not. When that Uncharted 2 Sony commercial was talking about someone thinking that game was an actual movie is the kind of absurdity I was referring to along with the graphic worship I see here sometimes.

I agree in part. A game like Assassin's Creed 2 needs the beautiful graphics to create characters and a landscapes for a world you fall in love with, to invest time in. A game like MW2 needs graphics to make you believe you're in war.

And I don't think anyone has ever complained that the graphics are too good.

Personally I think presentation is very important in games. Whether it's the graphics, sound effects, or soundtrack, all are important in making an immersive game. Graphics aren't the be all end all, but poor graphics are a valid reason to call a game out, and great graphics should be appreciated.

From the Gamespot FFVII review.

"This is the most dazzling visual experience to date on any console. Film-quality computer-generated cinematics blend seamlessly with pre-rendered background artwork to create the strikingly realistic world of Final Fantasy VII, both beautiful in its grandeur and terrifying in its detail."

You were saying?

I told this to a friend who doesn't buy games but still plays full versons of them ;) He said i care about graphics too much and i replied with:

If im paying full price for the system and full price for every 60-70 dollar game (a few used titles as well) then i expect everything to be well made... that includes graphics, presentation and sound.

Wasn't there a thread like this yesterday?

I'm going to quote myself here.

Graphics do help make a game better. I enjoy the visuals of games like SSBB and TP much more than SSB64 and OoT.

However, I find these little disputes between graphics of thesame generation ridiculous. It's one thing to compare the visuals of Super Mario 64 to the visuals of Super Mario Galaxy; it's a whole other thing to compare the visuals of Uncharted to the visuals of Gears of War. All curent-gen games look great; who cares about such insignificant differences? Will you really notice when you're actually playing the game?

People should enjoy current-gen games and be happy that graphics have improved over the generations.I

Really? I couldnt stand Crysis and I only like Killzone 2 because the multiplayer, meanwhile, I love games like Valkyria Chronicles that isnt the best in graphics so I think you are wrong with your statements. The best graphics arent necessary for a good game but at least the graphics give good points.

Yes they do.

Should they is another question.

But look at the fans and industry trend

Graphics do matter. Perhaps to much. But they sure as hell matter.

That's why I'm playing on a GTX 280 and PS3 and Xbox 360 instead of a Sega Master System or NES.

if you ask me, graphics is as important as gameplay, sound, and all that stuff. like this, would you date and ugly fat chick who has good "gameplay", or a sexy chick who sucks at it (no pun intended).

Gameplay is as good as graphics, their are some points where i play Killzone 2 and look at the scenery, or just look to the sky and see small little ships being blasted by lightning lol, its stuff like this that make the game feel more alive :)
