[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"]Halo isn't even close to the best FPS ever made... But you can always dream, right?Gamerz1569
Keep dreaming - I'll wake you when you're ready to accept the fact that nothing in the FPS genre comes close to Halo.
Sweet dreams.
Yup have fun dreaming of "Halo is da uber best gem eber!!". Back to topic.
1. Halo is by no means the best FPS (maybe console FPS king)
2. FPS were ALREADY popular on the PC platform (particualry CS and HL)
3. When you say shout Halo and everyone will respond in HOWEVERshoutFPS in a country OTHER THAN USand the answer will be either Quake,HL,Doom and CS (PC GAMES i might add)
BTW to prove it the Gamefaqs poll today results in most people being from US and since the 360 is more popular than PC in US then its no surprise that most of the GS users will vote HALO. Again Gamespot=/=World
4. Halo first FPS? Halo the creator of FPS?? Someone lend me a table full of rusty nails.
No, you don't know that you're talking about. Halo made FPS gaming more popular. That's why there are so many FPS games today.
Popular =/= good.
Halo is one of the worst FPS's I've ever played.
HenriH-42
Deus Ex is the worst piece of **** I've ever played through.
Oh, and Halo is also successful among critics, not in sales. Try again.
well, halo:ce and half-life are indeedtwo of the best FPS's ever!! i mean, why would a game that is 8 years old be second ona thread posted two month ago where everybody voted for their top ten if itweren't actually great!!! That's nonsens! halo:ce, metroid prime and half-life arebetter then killzone 2 or cod4!
I played doom, quake, half-life, duke nukem, goldeneye and perfect dark and i LOVED halo:ce! personally it's the second best game that i ever played! I hate it when hermits act like halo:ce is good because it's just on consoles! IT IS GREAT!

Entirely true. Killzone 2 can't just be compared to Halo.

Have you really played Deus Ex? If you honestly think that Deus Ex sucks, I am not surprised at all that you like Halo. People who like generic casual mainstream shooters often don't like deep fps/rpg hybrids. I bet you played Deus Ex like an arcade shooter and then declared that it sucks.
The so-called "critics" only care about hype and popularity, it's hard to find someone who isn't biased. The only way to get a non-biased review is to look up player reviews (not casual gamer reviews, but from people who have actually played 20+ years and more than just mainstream crap) about 10 years after the game has been released and the hype has died, to see if the game really stands the test of time. Halo doesn't.
Yeah I played through Halo and I was trying hard not to fall asleep. Repetitive level design (literally, some of the rooms are just copy-pasted), boring weapons and enemies, generic aliens-attack-and-only-you-can-stop-them storyline etc. etc. Take off your Halo fanboy goggles and you will realize that. The game was mediocre. Overhyped. Overrated. The only good thing I can honestly say about Halo is that it had particle physics. That's it. The end.
In my opinion, of course. ;)

Deus Ex's gameplay sucks, the characters are scarily sad. The plot tries to be mysterious and cool, but it fails. The graphics suck. The choices you make are repetitive.
Did you play Halo on PC?
i dont like halo timesplitters 2 was so much betterdoll94Your right. So was Perfect Dark and so was Golden Eye.

Wow... It seems Deus Ex really isn't your kind of game then. I've finished the game like 10 times and with every playthrough I find something that I've missed. The world is so full of details, the plot is nothing short of amazing (if you think that Halo has better plot then all I can say is LOL) and the gameplay is awesome. You have a lot of choices to make, lot of playstyles to choose from etc. No other game does it better than DX. Graphics don't matter at all and if you think they do then you are not a gamer. Deus Ex 2 sucked balls because it was made for Xbox and that is a fact, consoles ruin games.
Yes I did play Halo on PC. What difference does it make? It's the same game regardless of platform afaik.

I know what I'n talkinng about counter-strike and half-life WAS VERY popular BEFORE halo. halo made fps popular ON consoles but NOT in general. The pc platform already enjoyed lots of fps waay before halo. You really don't give up do you? Your overglorifying halo when in fact halo is popular ON CONSOLES NOT THE PC PLATFORM.

 Now, I understand. Half-Life 2 on consoles sucks compared to the one on PC.
You would have said something different if you would actually have played Halo when it was released, when you could compare the game to other FPS games.
And no, Deus Ex is like BioShock. It tries to be epic, but not really. It's a bad rehash of FF7 and the whole idea that comes in contact with the virus is boring and nothing new.
COD4 destroyed the whole Halo franchise.
THQ88
In what way? By getting owned in 2007 and 2008 in popularity?
Explain.
Both Half-Life and Half-Life 2 destroy Halo, but a console FPS gamer could never understand. 110million

Half-Life 2? What has that got to do with it? :?
No, you see - I have played very few games on launch. I played Deus Ex for the first time in 2006. I played System Shock 2 for the first time in 2007. Yet they still amazed me. A good game stays a good game forever, not just when it's the most hyped. When I play a game, I always compare it to whatever similar was out before and at the time of it's release. Halo was only "good" because it was hyped. It's once again one of those cases where something is popular because it's popular.
Deus Ex is like Bioshock? Blasphemy/madness! Bioshock is a gigantic piece of crap, severely dumbed down System Shock 2 for casual kiddy Xbox gamers. How the hell is Deus Ex not epic? What do you think is epic then - Halo, right?! Halo's storyline is about as complex and deep as Teletubbies' storyline. And how the hell is Deus Ex a rehash of Final Fantasy 7?? It has absolutely nothing to do with FF7, unless FF7 was set in 2050's and is cyberpunk. FF7 is another overrated piece of crap btw.

Your the one who doesn't understand. Halo is popular ON consoles. HL is popular ON the PC to say that Halo is FPS king is wrong, CONSOLE fps king maybe. Halo is great ON consoles NOT on the PC platform (why do you think Halo 2 got a 7 on PC comapred to a 9 on the 360 despite that the pc version had more features than the its counterpart). Halo pc version did not have good sales? why because ITS NOT popular on the pc. Basically your saying Obama is the president of the world, disregarding the other countries. Its the same your saying Halo is the fps King disregarding the pc platform and ps platform. Maybe you can say sales king? But definitely not the fps king.

its the truth though, halo came out when 01? there were people playing more brilliant FPS's way before hand. Hell it was transcended by half life before it even came outquake 2 multiplayer much better, halo's got a cool single player though. No FPS game has throughout the years provided such an excellent, epic and brilliant adventure that Halo did back in 2001. If you've played it, it's hard to deny it.
8 years have passed soon, but Halo truly is the most brilliant first-person shooter ever. It doesn't seem like it can be transcended.

I don't hate all popular games. I only hate popular games that I personally just don't like, or I think are overrated. Examples of popular games that I like: The Sims, Half-Life, Battlefield, Quake, Doom, GTA (including 4, which everyone seems to bash here), Civilization, Command & Conquer, Crysis, Chronicles of Riddick, Starcraft, Warcraft, Fallout (including 3), FEAR, Morrowind, Oblivion (which is still very overrated but I enjoyed it), STALKER, Witcher, Heroes of M&M etc.
It's called marketing. Remember when GTA IV was the most hyped game ever? The after a few weeks the popular thing was to bash GTA IV because it got a 10. GTA 4 deserves it's 10 btw. Most hyped games don't deserve their scores (Bioshock, Call of Duty, Halo, MGS, RE, WoW, Counter Strike etc.)
Well, Halo stole the weapons from Doom, and Master Chief looks just like the doomguy! See, every idea is recycled and that argument can be made to apply to anything. Bioshock still sucks btw and it's nothing like Deus Ex.

Halo was bigger to the FPS genre than Half-Life, whether you like it or not. Grow up. You know nothing of the FPS history. Go and play Tetris.
At the time of release Halo was the best CONSOLE FPS ever, since then it has been surpassed especially this generation with the abundance of excellent shooters (Gears, CoD 4, Killzone 2, etc.). And if you count Metroid Prime as a shooter then I would definitely put that above Halo, Metroid Prime is one of a handful of games that I consider virtually perfect (Amazing Graphics, Amazing Music, Amazing Level Design, Long & Meaty quest, tons of details, etc.).
If you take throw PC shooters into the equation then the Half-life series is just miles above everything else. The original Half-life might be the most influential shooter of all time (Doom is the only other game that is even in the equation). Then we have Half-life 2 which is my personal favorite shooter of all time.

And you have to be a huge fanboy if you think that Halo was "completely new, innovative and fresh". I don't remember where, but some guy made a list of all "innovations" in Halo and showing that every single one of them could be found in some other game, usually a PC game, before it's release.

You're just like the other console gamers who are obsessed with their XBOX and don't know how unimportant Halo was to the FPS genre, it was a new standard for console FPS, but it was a genre that was playing catch-up on consoles, Golden Eye was the biggest console FPS revolution, without it, Halo woulden't have even existed, Halo was big in console FPS, but it fails to even make a dent in FPS games as a whole.
Animal-Mother
Halo was bigger to the FPS genre than Half-Life, whether you like it or not. Grow up. You know nothing of the FPS history. Go and play Tetris.
no t was bigger to the console FPS Yeah, especially when HL1 sold more then Halo 1, by a lot, and thats without counting steam sales, it could very likely be double Halo's sales when you include steam, considering how much it cost on there.[QUOTE="Animal-Mother"][QUOTE="TheEliteTeam20"]no t was bigger to the console FPS Yeah, especially when HL1 sold more then Halo 1, by a lot, and thats without counting steam sales, it could very likely be double Halo's sales when you include steam, considering how much it cost on there. Funny. No FPS game has surpassed Combat Evolved. To say that is just foolish.
[QUOTE="OnLive"]FPS like COD4, BF2, KZ2, and Crysis are all better than halo, seriously you have to be a pretty big fanboy to agree with this. or you've just never played anything other than an xbox.TheEliteTeam20
 I laugh at the fact that you can even compare Killzone 2, CoD 4 or Crysis to Halo. Dude, if it weren't for Halo, they wouldn't exist, because Halo created the FPS genre, basically.
Hi, thanks for failing - Doom was the first well known FPS, Half-Life brought it to life and Halo brought it to the poor kids who can't afford a PC. Again, thanks for failing.Exactly Halo's good don't get me wrong it does many things right for the console but so many games have surpassed it prior to it's release and soon after[QUOTE="Animal-Mother"]

Halo inspired many to make FPS games, because it was so great.

Buy a PC, swallow your pride and come back when you can say you are sorry. I can't make you believe me that Halo isn't the second coming - it's a great game that basically is a greatest hits of all the FPS before it. Can't that be enough?[QUOTE="TheEliteTeam20"][QUOTE="Grizlok"] Hi, thanks for failing - Doom was the first well known FPS, Half-Life brought it to life and Halo brought it to the poor kids who can't afford a PC. Theres not a single shooter that's beaten it's epic campaign to date. No. COD4 would be in the running if it wasn't so short.
Bit of a shame really but there was no need to make this topic, you'll just upset PC gamers because half life 2 isn't being talked about to this day.
