This brings me to my next question: Does Mass Effect 2 have a cover system?

ME 1 did. It's one of the first things the game teaches you.
And ME2 does too going by the vids in combat mode, and has improved much more than the original ME.[QUOTE="gamecubepad"]

Yes I think I remember in one of the earlier dev diaries them explaining that they completely overhauled the cover system and went from around 15 animations for cover in the first game to over 50 in the second. It looks a lot more fluid now instead of just sticking to wallsWhich was an extremely underrated game....the story is better than the first game and much more meaningful. Its Deus Ex: Invisible Wars all over again! I do think the first game was overall better...........but the story in the second one made the game worth playing. Its better paced, more meaningful, and more emotionally resonanting than the first game.I knew it!!! looking at the trailers I knew this game got turned into more of a shooter then a rpg. I could tell. and its a damn shame too. Why bioware? is it the 360 shooter crowd you are marketing this too. Trying to cash in on the Halo and COD trend that the 360 audience loves over RPGs? Lack of PC focus and more console focus is what killed the DEUS EX franchise. The first was a killer game with stats and deep rpg inventory system. the second deus ex was dumbed down and made for the xbox1 crowd instead of the PC gamers and they took out stats and a lot of things that made the original great. From this it seems it may be the case for ME2. Shame. A Shooter RPG doesn't need to play like COD... Look at fallout3 and you will see that. This just saddens me. I hope it's not as bad as TC is saying but, I doubt it based on the trailers.Midnightshade29Umm, except they aren't taking out things that were great, they're taking out things that sucked.
Alright Yandere , what classic dungeon crawler is in your sig now? I love old school dungeon crawlers... I've never seen this, what game? This is one of the few times that I agree with you TC.
Yandere
scores mean nothing, my hype for this game has died[QUOTE="MetalGearSolidZ"][QUOTE="Jamani"]OLLD and it will still be AAABioShockOwnz
Seriously. Oblivion scored hella high, yet it's just no good.
ME2, however, will get AAA because it deserves AAA greatness, not overrated mediocrity.
How do you know that? Have you played it?[QUOTE="Yandere"]Alright Yandere , what classic dungeon crawler is in your sig now? I love old school dungeon crawlers... I've never seen this, what game? This is one of the few times that I agree with you TC.

I took a screenshot of this guys game, it's not finished so there isn't a real point of playing it (besides the map editor), but I enjoyed the graphics so I decided to use it as a signature.
Honestly, I was searching for a First Person maze game to fiddle around with but I found that instead.
Also, if you want a actual dungeon crawler just ask.

For you maybe.. but I am shootered out(been so for a while now).. If I want a shooter I'll go play Quake 3, or Unreal tornament 99/2004, Stalker , Crysis, Killzone 2, Resistance, Warhawk, Fear, etc... I don't like when PC quality RPGs get infected with consolitis.. Case in point Deus EX2 my favorite Shooter RPg turned into a pile of crap because of taking out RPG elments and targeting for the console crowd. I will pass on this game if its just a shooter. I got real RPGS on the PC right now. I am still working on Risen (aka Gothic 4) , Divinity 2 , NWN2, Witcher enhanced, Escholon bk 2 is coming out, and for ps3:Disgaea3, Demon souls, FF13, WKC, SO4, Last Rebellion, and two worlds 2 for either platform , unless someone can confirm that ME2 still has stats and inventory then I will be skipping for now.

yeah, give me the names of a few dungeon crawlers that are good. I am playing Eterian Odyssey 1 and Dark Spire on the DS and Class of heroes on the psp.. but I would love to play some others. so let me know thanks.[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"][QUOTE="Midnightshade29"]I knew it!!! looking at the trailers I knew this game got turned into more of a shooter then a rpg. ME2 has stats and inventory...instead of carrying weapons and armor, you carry upgrades and parts. For stats and character building...all they took out is the weapon skills and charm/intimidate...you still level up your powers and even have to choose between two different bonuses when you max them out.
Mass Effect was always console focused. What's with PC gamers always wanting everything to be needlessly complicated anyway? Sometimes simple is better.

Sorry that it took me a while to respond, I was also watching TV.
yea..forget all the cons.. it scored a 90%.. all those things dont matter.. deep character development is gone but hey.. it scored a 90% who cares.. look i dont really care about this game but i find it weird that even though some of those cons are very important to an rpg like this.... then to be cut down or removed..its suddenly no big deal because the game scored a 90% but o well this is system wars...You forgot to add in the part where it scored 90%.

" The levels are attractive, but a bit blocky and workman like. Some have inexplicable waist-high barriers that pop out of the ground when combat begins to provide cover. It's so contrived it feels like an in-joke for cover-based shooter players. "
[QUOTE="Jamani"]OLLD and it will still be AAARichardStallmanJust like MW2. There's no point in big website reviews anymore. Yet big magazine reviews are fine? You realize they are likely to BS reviews, and articles to maintain their current audience due to their flimsy place in the industry as of late. Any review has to be taken as it is, someone's opinion, with possible bias and outside influence; however in most cases that's not an issue.

If the original was the least bit deep in terms of role-playing, then I would be upset. The game has its cons, but the OP made it out as if the game scored poorly.I don't get the hate for this game. Do people really want the entire industry to be making nothing but the same 4-6 hours, 40 weapons that all feel the same, no replay value games?
Its the devs similar to bioware that still makes gaming worth the money.
[QUOTE="Jamani"]OLLD and it will still be AAARichardStallmanJust like MW2. There's no point in big website reviews anymore. I agree 100% with you Richard. I'm actually so disappointed with the direction Mass Effect 2 took that now I'll be waiting for it to hit the bargain bin before I pick it up.
[QUOTE="djsifer01"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]Ohhh nooo, they got rid of the ridiculous amounts of useless loot! Ohhhh noooo, they removed the stats that barely mattered. This is awful!AAllxxjjnnYah but that ridiculous loot made me rich in the first game. It made me annoyed because inventory management sucked ass. None of the weapons even felt very different, they only felt a little more powerful than the last. I never felt "Oh **** YES!!!, Katana VI, this is SO awesome! I LOVE ALL THIS LOOT!". I never bothered with the loot in any of my playthroughs. It was very annoying. What are we going to do, man? They took out the annoying loot system while improving the role playing and combat. WE ARE **** It'll also flop because I will have to get off of my ass to switch discs. /sarcasm

At the end of the day, they're all just opinions. Just take them as it is...opinions.
Kinda off topic but kinda not regarding ME1. Shepard and company stopped Soveirgn from opening the portal for the rest of the reapers to enter through the citadel. So, what is there to fight for now in the sequel? I mean, the reapers are trapped in dark space now, no?

They made a new race called the Collectors which will serve as the bad guys. I don't know much about them yet.

Who made them?I called it from the start, considering that ME 1 was a bad shooter and a bad RPG. Seems like this time they'll get rid of the RPG and focus on the shooting to appeal console gamers.dont-read-thisYet you gave DA:O a 10. Very interesting.
As expected, this thread is filled with a bunch of posters who were dead set on hating this game from the start pretending that this laughably segmented review changed them over.
Didn't take long for all the ERPG fans to go all out here.

Who made them? Ah, thanks. I just felt it was odd at the end of ME when Shepard said he's gonna go wipe the Reapers out, yet they were trapped. Was a bit confused...Didn't take long for all the ERPG fans to go all out here.

[QUOTE="Dahaka-UK"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"] What?Verge_6What does one not understand. ME2 just got dumbed down into shooter. For the masses. Lulz, right? Please tell lulz... I'm not hating on ME at all, but it was kinda "shooter" heavy to begin with. So I don't see the big deal.
[QUOTE="Jamani"]OLLD and it will still be AAARichardStallmanJust like MW2. There's no point in big website reviews anymore.
Agreed. I still give them a look, but a high score isn't going to sell me on a game I wasn't already interested in any more...
Lulz, right? Please tell lulz... I'm not hating on ME at all, but it was kinda "shooter" heavy to begin with. So I don't see the big deal. Even if that's the case, it means the poster was ignorant as to what ME1 was to begin with. And disregarding that entirely, there's still the fact that removing a slew of the more annoying/useless features that we saw in ME1 doesn't singlehandedly turn it into a shooter, and it's certainly not 'dumbing it down'. Hence why I'm praying Dahaka here was merely being sarcastic.[QUOTE="Verge_6"][QUOTE="Dahaka-UK"] What does one not understand. ME2 just got dumbed down into shooter. For the masses.Chutebox
