Seriously, if Xbox 360 guys are this upset about it being sub-HD you guys should just get a gaming rig. After all you guys wasted $300 on Xbox Live, a service we get for FREE on the PC through Steam and it's 10X better than Xbox Live with awesome deals on games. With the $300 you guys spent on Xbox Live it would have covered 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of a new gaming rig in the $400-$600 price range. You could even gotten a high end graphics card like a HD 6950 and unlocked to a HD 6970 within these price range. It would be great bang for your buck.

Then why with all these frustrations with the game being below HD? It's clearly apparent some consolers care a great deal about graphics and resolution or else there wouldn't be 25+ pages of ranting and raving about Crysis 2 being below HD.

As one of my fellow PC gamer's said, it seems like consolers care a great deal about graphics and resolution than PC Gamers. :P

Now that you put it that way. I would be pretty bumbed out that the game I brought would be stuck at 720P. In all honesty, 720P is a terrible resolution to play it at. 720P looks blurry and crap if you sit up close and play it on a monitor.

If it's on a big screen it looks bad either way because you are essentially taking an image that is 1280x720 and blowing it up on a big screen like my 50" Plasma. If I were to take that image and blow it up on a 65" it will look even more crappier. The bigger the screen the crappier 720P will look. So, if you look it either way it will look bad on a big screen AND a small screen (like a PC monitor sitting up close).

Sometimes, I am just glad that I am a PC gamer. I have all these options. Yes, it costs more but only slightly more if you include the cost of Xbox Live over the past 5 years which is at least $300 on top of a $300+ console. So, in total that would be almost $600-$700, in other words, a cost of a new gaming rig!

I have theory and I think many PC gamer's would agree with me and that is: Many consolers DO CARE a great deal about GRAPHICS and whether a game is in HD or not or how well a game looks, they just don't want to show that in front of PC gamers because we are able to play those games in all it's glory in FULL HD 1080P with 16X FSAA+ and 16X Anistrophic Filtering at 60+ FPS and beyond. Consolers don't want to mention their careness for graphics in front of PC gamers because that would show the weakness of the consoles and how vastly superiour the PC is when it comes to graphics. This "concealing" would be more apparent on System Wars. It's clearly apparent that there are consolers who have an obessions with how games look as apparent by many threads discussing graphics on console titles like Uncharted 2 or Gears of War series and the heated graphics battles between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 fanboys.

Counter intuitive you may think, but consider the eDRAM....

By using this "sub-HD" resolution, they can use the eDRAM rather than being forced to use the system RAM. eDRAM is also faster and more easily accessible... So, Crytek is using the system resources to improve performance and graphics. Has NOTHING to do with them not being able to run 1280x720 and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the eDRAM isn't big enough to deal with 1280x720 framebuffers...

PS3 version may end up being 1280x720, and if the Xbox 360 didn't have eDRAM, it probably would have as well.

That's exactly what it is, you sit far enough away and the blemishes blur out, but it doesn't exactly help your ability to pick out distant objects, particularly when they're far away and the LOD kicks in.

The game is being dumbed down anyway I don't think it will matter what rez it runs in, it will still be Crysis for dummies.

this game never impressed me, and now that the 360 fanboys hate its MP i know its crap for certain. because they pretty much praise anything on their system multi or exclu......no wait there are no exclusives.

First of 1152x720 is almost indistinguishable from 1280x720 when looking at your TV from your chouch,especially since alot of TVs are 1366x768 so upscaling HAS to be done.

Anyway,it looks pretty DAMN GOOD to me.I think its all because of stupid map...its to small,with aggressive LOD etc.

Yes.With two tiles they are 19.9mb and that brings vertices extra load of 33%.If they went for third one(22mb needed for 720p) they would get ANOTHER 33% vertices load which would mean that it has to render 66% more geometry than needed,66% more than ps3.Thats just HUGE performance hit.They have chosen that kind of deferred renderer and they went for HDR so it was impossible to fit it in,but it seems that R* approach with deferred rendering actually managed to do that.

the difference is clear between 720p and 1080p in games, and especially without (or with low) antialiasing. i understand the frustration this is causing here, because Crytek was boasting that this game would take all the benefit out from console hardware. low res alone can ruin the looks. does it make the game bad? hell no.

this might not be far away from 720p, but it doesn't change the fact that it looks grainy.

I don't understand this....the beta looks great who cares if its sub hd, the game looks great and thats all that matters.

Honestly, most of this lot would avoid a lot of headaches if they just bought a PC. Console gamers didn't buy their systems for the best technology had to offer. They bought for convenience, cost and that platforms exclusives. If maintaining a visual standard is that big a deal, they should be willing to pay the extra and get a PC.

The graphics and more importantly the gameplay were extremely underwhelming. It's not a bad looking game but no way is it a console graphics king like lems are still claiming.

The PS3 version will probably look worse due to poor optimization.
