I don't think it's fair to say that a business 100% doesn't care about it's consumers, unless it's providing the bare minimum in service or provides a service that is of harm to it's consumers. Sure, the higher ups at Sony probably don't care. But I think it's also safe to say that there are passionate people within the gaming 3. I don't think nintendo is devoid of hoping to provide products that people love - for more reasons than sales. I don't think this notion would go uncontested in relation to nintendo. Sony provided a console based on extra features and offers a free online service. Sure, these are consumer incentives, but that doesn't mean that no sony employees take pride in them. .

Great post. People are a little too emotionally invested in this.

That's one of Geo's own big problems as well. he's busy talking smack and being a rebellious rapper while Sony acts like any company does when a reasonable threat is assessed.

[QUOTE="Timstuff"][QUOTE="Dy_WarriorsXoXo"] Your claim that the "hackers" pirtate games is false. Especially in Geohot's case... If he was a pirate he would be in jail by now. This is not whether or not the "average gamer" cares about Linux it is about them deliberately removing a feature that was a major feature for the Playstation 3. I mean Geohot "hacking" the PS3 will allow the system to receive various features not available on official firmware. Also the owners of the original PS3 could turn your statement around saying that We the paying customer should not have one of the features we purchased a PS3 for be stripped away for Sony to prevent profit loss (they really could care less about people ruining your online experience hate to break it to you... )Dy_WarriorsXoXo
And your ability to install Linux is worth taking away my ability to install games without needing a serial key or a constant internet connection? Sorry if I sound unsympathetic to your plight, but Linux can rot for all I care. I don't use it, and I don't care if my PS3 can use it or not. I think I deserve to play my games without draconian levels of copy protection more than you deserve to install a feature which no-one forced you to uninstall in the first place (you could have just kept your PS3 on its original firmware and not updated, which the EULA stated quite clearly).

If you keep the original firmware it takes away your right to play online and access psn...

And so does using custom firmware, since you will be banned from PSN. Either way you are not going to get to have linux on PS3 and play online at the same time, and if you decide to hack your PS3 it threatens my ability to use the system's primary function (playing officially licensed PS3 software). No matter what you are not going to be able to access PSN and use Linux, so if you decided to update your firmware it's your own darned fault and you should not have accepted the EULA. Also, none of this changes the fact that George Hotz is the person to blame for OtherOS being removed since his bad behavior prompted Sony to remove it in the first place.

You don't have a right to play online, nor to access psn. It is a privilege granted at Sony's discretion, pretty much like any service.

A more appropriate phrase would have been "you forfeit your privilege to use PSN." However, if there's one thing you cannot fault hackers for lacking in, it's their sense of entitlement.

[QUOTE="Dy_WarriorsXoXo"]I just do not understand how anyone can support an international corporation over a crusader for justice like Geohot. Geohot is giving us our feature back and working tirelessly to actually improve the PS3... Sony should not sue a hero to gamers and consumers but the pirates. This case will set a precedent restricting consumer rights and ultimately human rights if Sony wins the case overrall. Its not even as if Geohot is looking for a battle, Sony poked a bear when they started this with Geohot.

Crusader? NO WAY, he basically he made our lives hell. He is ruining our online experience, he is worsening sales of games, he is affecting developers' lives

Yeah I'm sure, like many people on these forums; he killed my wife, stole my dog, and left me homeless ever since he released those security keys.

[QUOTE="Dy_WarriorsXoXo"]The whole case makes me want to give Geo my parents credit cards... I would not actually do that (my parents would be very mad) but if I had a credit card (which are really hard to get without credit history) I would definatley help fight corporate greed by donating to Geo's defense. Sony included Linux in the PS3 and it is their fault if it makes the PS3 vulnerable to "hackers"... I do not even understand the whole dilemma here people have against Geo when this is a clear cut case of consumer rights.Twin-Blade

Is it just me, or does this post say a lot about GeoHotz supporters?

Yes, immature bunch of whiners who probably didn't even use Linux to begin with. It's a fad, a form of rebellion for prebuscent teens like these to stickk it up for the oh-so-evil empire of Sony. And then buy Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops as soon it comes it with mommy's and daddy's credit card.

Generalize much? I'm sorry that other people don't share your opinion, but calling another side "a bunch of whiners" is really mature isn't it?

Anyway, I think Flame Shield summed it up nicely for Geohot "supporters."

As for whether he was in the wrong or not. Me and TC have went at it for like 20 pages already. Geo used Sonys own keys to gain access to the PS3(you know the jailbreak USB key that was released around firmware 3.40 and then patched in 3.41) That key was stolen from Sony(not by Geo) and used to gain access. Geo did NOT use any illegal metheds to by[pass Sonys security he used measures Sony put in place to get said information.

It's also been found in at least 1 case that simply posting data in it's text form is NOT illegal. Because until that data has been compiled into a program it is simply words on a page which is allowed.

What I really hate is the fact that 99% of all the people who use these hacks said they only wanted them for homebrew. But looking thorugh all the websites that offer the progams it's become blatantly obvious that it was all a lie. As of right now there's virtually NO homebrew and a multitude of ways to play pirated games. The only useful homebrew is a FTP program that lets you transfer info from your PC to your PS3 and vice-versa(very useful for save files, especially considering it works with copy protected save files). You can also get linux on the PS3, I belive they even got windows working for ABestOS now.

This kind of puts me in a bad place. I was fighting for that community originally. Then they all turned out to be the scum TC said they were. I do hope Geohot wins but I still want someone to find a way for Sony to stop the piracy while allowing Homebrew. Hopefully the PS4 has some sort of app store so we can get some cool Homebrew while keeping the reasons to hack to a minimum.

It's hilarious how everyone is saying, "I want other OS back." I bet less than 10% of you cared about that function until this past December. losers.

Honestly, I don't thing Hotz did anything wrong besides post it online...if he didn't do that then it wouldn't have been such a big deal (I mean, you announce to the world you just hacked...well, ANYTHING, what would you expect to happen, a parade?). It's one thing to do it because you can...showing everyone else how to is another. Stuff like this proves nothing. I'm pretty sure if he just posted a Youtube video of his PS3 doing wacky things, it woul've sufficed (probably banned by Sony, but a lot better than this current situation :P)

If we have to use serial keys in the future, you can thank Mr. Hotz. In fact, you can already thank him for Bionic Commando 2 requiring a constant internet connection to play.

Dude didn't do anything wrongDarkLink77

Thats up for debate really, he wouldn't be in court if the legality of his actions were not in question.

Sony doesn't actually care if they win the case. They just want to bankrupt the guy, and make an example of him. The genie's already out of the bottle, and you can't put it back.

you think Sony doesn't care if they win the case to allow people to mod their systems and still support them via PSN while they have access to do almost anything on a individual level or global level? Yeah right
