Ask a lot of Xbox gamers about Gold and they will tell you that they "need" to pay for it. foxhound_fox

Read my post again. I didn't say a fee wasn't needed, I said the servicice per se has never been a "need", so saying "it is completely unnecessary" is just being redundant.

[QUOTE="loftus42"]Hundreds of thousands of servers? Really? I doubt Steam has that many servers. I would say hundreds, maybe 1 thousand. No more.

You seemed to have read "or" as "of."

Wow $250 on just live, i personally would feel very cheated, especially since most of the games i play online are mutli plats. I would always think thats atleast 5 games i could have bought, or even an entire new console.

Same thing happens to me when i buy a controller. I always think its money i could've spent on a game, so i always put it off.

shutdown_202

Unless he already spent $250 on a replacement... I am sure 5 years later he's not using the same old xbox 360 he first purchase. shoot I bought an elite in august 2007 then sold it on ebay after purchasing a used launch 60GB PS3 for 400... guess what my PS3 still works to this day. Their 360 died after 5 months.

The 360 community is great, I've met so many nice people and I have developed many gaming relationships. I've met my share of buttholes sure but I've met more nice people. PC gaming is the place where I've met the biggest racists and buttholes.

All of my most recent SF matches consisted of droppers, people sending me hate messages when I beat them, and Ken spammers. Yea - great community. I also love the rather large amount of little kids. They're in every single CoD4 match I've played.

Well, I still have one I bought 6 months after launch. Still running strong. It did die once (RROD), but was repaired/ replaced by MS for free. I gave it to my boss after I bought my elite. Now we are both happy. I got a raise a few months later also, not saying they are connected, but....

You should, since you launch 360 cost more than a launch Ps3

loftus42

just wrong on so many points. Like I said before, I don't mind fanboys saying they don't like to pay for on-line play, just keep things true. Stop taking a stand on one thing and spouting false information on the other. $400 compared to $600? how is that more expensive? If wer going to take a stand on one thing make sure your standing on solid ground, because in my book there are a few other things you need to take a stand on first. Like the truth.

50 dollars a month is less than 5 bucks a month to play every game on xbox.. alot of people pay 15 bucks a month to just play WOW.. how is that a waste of money? Id rather play against other people online than by myself.. that would be boring.

Sorry, I don't factor that into the cost of the console. But I get where your comming from. If you count those things then you have to count also, HDD upgrades, Original 20 gig went out a long time ago. You just get into an evil circle. But, like I said, I do see how you were thinking. Sorry for coming across so strong. I've seen to many people spreading false information, and I thought you were doing the same. Again sorry for attacking your Comment. My mistake.

Why have Live with no games, add the cost of games too. Then the screen you play on, then the electricity, then the rent/mortgage. Although, even after all this, the PS3 would still be 50 cheaper, unless you take into account that the PS3 uses alot more electricity then the Xbox.

I knew this argument would come up, But the fact that the online system is part of the console it should be tacked on to its price.

I've paid annually since November of 2002. Don't regret it one bit. That doesn't mean I wouldn't take it for cheaper.

Bad luck much? Halo 3 I met tons of great people, shared laughs. Battlefield: Bad Company and Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2 I met some of the nicest people ever. Very mature communities there. Soul Calibur IV I met a few people but a lot of sore losers like in SF IV. Gears of War was mediocre, every other online game has been great. I think it depends what you're playing.

[QUOTE="porky_ownsu"] then don't buy the dlc.. There is two options either the devs put things like "operation anchorage" in the game itself, or charge money for it. when running a business there is no point in wasting time and money to give people free content. Yes i agree that some dlc, like resi 5's versus mode is a scam, but things like shivering isles, knothole island and TLAD are not rip offs. They are hours of extra gameplay, therefore worth money.

foxhound_fox

Only if they are released as "expansion packs." Things like Shivering Isles are expansions to the original. Game modes, cars, tracks, guns, levels, etc... aren't expansions on the original game... they are just content that fits into the original.

And just because it adds more play time does not inherently make it worth money. A new multiplayer level or new gun adds more gameplay but it doesn't derive inherent value. Paying for DLC is what is killing gaming. Unless it is something like Shivering Isles, made after the original and adds whole new areas with new story, quests, characters, weapons, etc. It should be released for free... like has always been the case on PC. i.e Bring Down the Sky being free on PC but costs money on 360.

That alone proves that paying for DLC on consoles is just like paying for XBL... completely unnecessary.

yes, I totally agree, an expansion pack like operation anchorage and TLAD are worth money. A gun pack, map pack, and new game modes are a waste of money.

Truthfully (the way I see it at least), b/c 50 bucks per year is chump change unless you're a 12 year old.

Like fox is arguing, your one of those people who thinks he needs to pay so you continue doing so. Your also trying to make yourself feel better, justifying your purchase by saying people pay $15 a month for WoW. Anyway like you said, I too would like to play against other people online. Thats why i play on my PS3 and PC.

I have just renewed my Live, 3 years now, and at £28.99, I have never felt cheated

I mainly play on it due to a close group of friends (College and other)

we regularly play the same games and are always in party chat

I would say the community as a whole on live (and PSN) isn't very good, full of stupidly hostile people that get so overworked over a game,

but if you have a group of friends on either, it can be great, but if my friends weren't on it, I wouldn't be so willing to shell out

A post I made in a similar thread:

I look at it like this...

The principle of paying for P2P :|. You essentially pay to "unlock" features already on the game disc you bought. Hopefully they can restructure it in a way to validate its worth for everyone (like providing dedicated servers for at least 1st party games for Gold members). Now that $50 is going toward another game :).

Personally, I haven't had Live in over a year. There aren't any games on 360 that I wanna play online right now and the foreseeable future. Gears 1 was the only game I played a crap load of...but I've moved on, an ex-Gearhead. This is one of the key reasons I'm getting RE5 on PS3.

lol, PSN is far from dead. Members are very active in online games, use mics, and even use Home. Your number of friends can make things seem different than what they are. As far as party system goes, that's an awseome feature that PSN needs. But don't forget XBL just got that last November.

Compared to XBL it felt it, no one was talking at all maybe the occasional person who had his mic on but talking to someone out of the game, obviously if all my friends had PS3's then it be better but at this stage nearly every game i know has a 360 and adding the way MS has improved the service in terms of community and integration is in my books worth the price.

"250$ Dollaz thats a nu 360!"

Value is subjective. I guarentee you if he wasn't paying that $50 a year towards Live it would probably have went on something else within a matter of days.

I'll pay for it, I can afford it, I don't care for the principle I just care for the experience.

I know it's rhetorical, but here goes-

Because no matter how many frothing haters shriek "YOU'RE A TOOL!!!1" or "YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR BEING RIPPED OFF!!1", you feel you're getting your money's worth, and that's what counts. Why anyone honestly expects someone else to care about their opinion on how other people spend four dollars a month is laughable.

I'd rather have a large catalog of singleplayer games than like 5 multi games though.. I've already been a PC gamer who played the same 5 games for 5 yrs... I'm done

Because you found value in it and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

No matter how many people come into this thread saying "you've been ripped off/cheated/milked/whatever", the fact of the matter remains that you found enough Value in Xbox Live to not only pay for it, but to not feel ripped off by doing so. Ignore the haters man. As far as I'm concerned, you shouldn't feel cheated in the slightest.

Same thing happens to me when i buy a controller. I always think its money i could've spent on a game, so i always put it off.

absolutely they should bundle two controllers with consoles, we don't all sit at home alone.

Forget the community. If I can play online at no extra cost, that's fine by me.

You don't feel cheated because you probably don't have your own bills to pay. Stuff like that adds up.Zoso-8
Why assume things like this, If you have an opinion, please state the opinion. If he's been paying for Live for 5 years, i would think he's old enough to be paying his bills on his own.

50 dollars a month is less than 5 bucks a month to play every game on xbox.. alot of people pay 15 bucks a month to just play WOW.. how is that a waste of money? Id rather play against other people online than by myself.. that would be boring.

Sorry, I do not have to justify any purchase I make. I'm sorry that you feel that people should. This is not a socialist country, and what people do with thier money is thier buisness. I am happy with my purchase, and nothing you can say will make me feel any different, LOL. If you feel it isn't justified, why don't you debate it instead of accusing others that they are trying to justify the way they spend thier money.

So you enjoy getting cussed out by little kids and big macho men who still live with their parents? Don't get me wrong I pay for it too but the reason I do is because my friend only has a 360. If he had a gaming PC, I would drop that XBL fee and never miss it.channtheman1

party system. make it so that the only people able to talk to you are the people in your party. same with hear you. no more annoying little kids or dumb***es that think they're big and bad cause you not in front of them.

I couldn't agree more. I have both and I would trade the ps3 in anyday over the 360. I love the 360...Its fun to see what's new with everything when you sign in to xbox live. Ps3 still feels like a prototype with issues that need to be worked out.

Why am I not outraged. Why do I not hate Microsoft? Why do I own a PS3 and still make all of my DLC purchases on my 360?

THE COMMUNITY.

So the community would be there without the fee?

I still don't see any reason to pay for online gaming.

$250 wow...., 50 a year doesn't seem like much but after 5 years you paid enough to pay for another 360 with change leftover.

why should you feel cheated? it's our money! wrap it around your toes and do the moonwalk if you want to. so other people feel different. no matter what it's not going with you when you die. i want my last check to bounce hopefully it will be for dlc on either system.
