I think you think you have a point. I just cannot imagine what this is? Gotta love SW. lol

DrTrafalgarLaw

yea..lol

who cares...the 100 people who read system wars are mostly sony fanboys anyway...pointless thread would be pointless.

I never said gta:V is better than sonic...all I said is wii U is missing out on the most anticipated game this year...

It's going to get many of the year's best games, though.

This. Honestly, I am far more interested in Wonderful 101 (even more so after the demo). Sonice is also higher on my want list. Dragons Crown on Ps3 interests me far more than GTA5. When people throw around the idea of OMG highly anticipated!!!! Wut..... who cares? All that matters is what you want to play. People shop at walmart more than any other store. Does that mean I need to get exited about Walmart? Nope.

He's right about the lack of software being the Wii U's biggest issue.

But trying to downplay the pricing issue by using the Wii U basic model is just dumb. People didn't buy that model because it was far inferior to the deluxe model, a model that in itself is also flawed as is. That and while the Wii U deluxe model may have sold more, it's not like that one is selling well either, meaning that many people don't feeling like shelling out 350$ for the thing, showing that pricing could indeed be an issue.

maybe once the Wii U's library is bigger people will be more willing to spend 350$, But using the Wii U basic model to defend the pricee of the deluxe model? Come on...

1. Name ( Wii 2 or Super Wii would be better) 2. Price (Don't gauge the public. Gamers aren't stupid. We see a dated console with a current gen price) 3. Forced tablet (I've held it and I hate it.) 4. Lack of games (1st and 3rd party) 5. Between gen console (Nintendo did it to its self. Better consoles for the money in November) 6. Game downloads saved to console (really? Not your I'd?) 7. 1st games are stale (I'm sorry I'm 33 years old and I'm tired of the pg games. You can call call of duty a rehash too but at least I'm not saving the princess from the same damn bad guy every **** time) 8. Mic forced with tablet (even if you are using the regular game pad.)

The biggest issue is the name. People still think it's an accessory for the Wii and not a new console.TheDidact

I agree with this 100%, i asked ppl i know irl if they were getting a Wii u...hell half asked if it was an addon for the Wii's and others thought it was a game

they should have released it abit later, with solid games.

SO~~~~7-8 years old specs with 32gb of memory (LOL are we in the 90's???) sold for $350 isn't too much? Is the guy stupid or just ashamed to lower his console that isn't even a year old to $199?silversix_
 You people have no business sense what so ever. You have any idea how much it costs to make this thing? They are losing money on it even at $350 and can't drop this price.

Mr. Iwata is 100% correct.

The problem with the wiiu is that it is a poor product.  People will happily pay for a product if it will deliver a good experience.

Persistent problems include the horrible battery life, miniscule hard drive (actually flash memory or whatever), the range of the controller (which is a bit too short), as well as arguably some ergonomic issues with the controller.

Not only that, but the "Deluxe" model really ought to have been the Basic.  The Basic is substandard as it is today.  It's just smart to include a game with a console.  It's smart to give a subcription to your online service to encourage people to try it.  It's smart to include plastic stands and those types of things.  It's smart to have at least enough memory storage for people to be able to try out your online store.

Nintendo has to scrap that horrid Basic model that is making their product synonymous with substandard design.  Just have "Deluxe" and introdude a new "Super Deluxe" that has a much bigger hard drive, better battery in the controller, some re-design, and maybe even a better game included.  Then again, Nintendoland is a smart game to include because it does showcase the console capabilities.  Maybe just have nicer plastic stands instead

He's not incorrect. Proper marketing will make any purchase feel worth it. Of course to the informed buyer (like those who frequent this board) marketing isn't enough to validate such a purchase (usually).

Price is definitely a problem. Nobody buys the basic model because it is such a huge piece of ****. The WiiU is a 149.99 console. 300/350 is laughable for a device with completely obsolete tech inside of it and no games. Fizzman
I agree.. however I wouldn't say $150.. maybe $199 for the elite but $300+ is definitely laughable.

The price is not the main problem. Its the lack of GAMES. The games are finally coming, late as hell though. Nintendo failed on that. They can turn it around and have everytime in the last 20 years.

A lot of people blame the hardware, but its hard to judge without any game testing its limits. It would be like judging the 360 on Perfect Dark at this point.

It's all about games, games and more games.

Provide excellent software first and foremost.  Dropping the price wouldn't get anyone to buy a system with no games.  Just give me my damn trailer for an HD Zelda.  That's all I ask for.

I agree he is bad for Nintendo. They need someone aggressive and hungry like Kaz.

If they're swapping leaders, make sure he/she isn't a complete dictator like Yamauchi. I don't care how Nintendo was "so much better" under him, or the fact that he hired folks like Miyamoto, that guy did quite a bit of damage to Nintendo before Iwata got on board.

-He had strict limits on how many games third parties can publish on their systems

-He backed third party censorship in the NES/SNES era (hey, after re-allowing Smash streams at Evo 2013, people still got Nintendo for doing what they did despite being brief, so why can't I bring this up?)

-He blew off Sony for a deal they've been working on for years

Besides that, it's also going to take more than Iwata leaving to fix things at Nintendo. Too many things need to be re-evaluated and similar policies can still run even if you have different people running the place.

Was not Wii's too, tho?

Atleast Wii U's is a "step in the right direction", imo...

It's the first HD Nintendo system and has a more "standard" controller after all.

Oh please, the wiiu is much better hardware with a lot more value than the ps3, which is 7 year old hardware selling for over $250. The wiiu may be over priced but $149.99? Get real.

They really should have some type of price cut before next year. Game wise...2014 looks very strong for them. That with a price cut will do them good.

I'm not sure what it is exactly since I don't own a wiiu, but there is something called Nintendo Network Premium which seems to be similar to Playstation Plus. You get 1 or 2 years of it in the Deluxe. So... why not show it off to everyone and not just to Deluxe people? It seems like the type of thing that few people would seek out and pay for but that many people could get hooked on if they had it for free at first.

edit: I think it is actually called "Deluxe Digital Promotion" here in North America.  I'm going off wikipedia here

Consumers are buying more of the Deluxe version because the Basic Wii U is awful.

However, in regards to the Wii U selling poorly in general, it is most definitely due to price at the current time.

A $200 Xbox 360 has more games, and features (and better implementation of said features), and is sitting on the shelves right next to the Wii U at your local Walmart/Best Buy/Target/etc.

If Nintendo wants the Wii U to sell better then either drop the price to be more in line with other products on the market, or produce some software that'll sell the Wii U.

Hmm. I have a deluxe model and actually had no idea that existed. It looks like basically I get 10% credit back on any eshop purchases. That's actually a pretty good incentive to go full digital. I wonder why they would limit that to their deluxe model, though.

Price is part of the issue - put the deluxe at $250 where it should be and you'll see a decent increase in sales.  The reason the basic isn't selling as well is because it isn't as good of a value.  Also c'mon, it's simple supply and demand people.  That said it's not the whole issue of course - marketing and a limited game library are also important factors along with the overall product itself.

WiiU will probably get a price-cut once PS4 & X1 get released..

however a price-cut alone is not enough, Nintendo needs to keep releasing great exclusives and get more 3rd party support !!

i really want a wiiu. but im delaying the buy until they release at least a 150gb model. 32gb is tooo low also the system updates take about 7gb on the wiiu. and im a big fan of downloadable arcade games and classics.

I definitely think price point isn't the number 1 problem. It's software first and foremost, then marketing. Price might help, but they might be able to get away without dropping too soon. I think they should consider the price next year if sales continue to remain low.

Please understand!

When is this clown going get fired?

The bigger question is will that even make a difference?

It'd be a large first step.  How do you know it wouldn't make a difference?  By your reasoning, no company should ever replace any CEO because nothing will ever change.  You always act like Iwata is a powerless puppet of the board or something that really has no say over things. Replacing a CEO can have drastic consequences.

Don't CEO's still have people to talk to before they act, such as legal, marketing, and hardware? Sure I can blame him for backing stupid crap like region encoding (which, weirdly enough was something in the Yamauchi era, but it wasn't QUITE as well known like it is today, though it still isn't much when the average person doesn't even know if their system is region free) and I can tell he's damage controlling here (what else can you do if you're part of a company and wish to keep your job), but I wouldn't say they are all his doing. Heck, for as much as I flank Yamauchi's role at Nintendo, even I'm not too sure if some of the WORST things to happen during that time are all him (I can fully blame him for what he did to Sony and for backing censroship of third party products and backing of the policy of third parties having strict limits of how many games they can publish at one time).
