[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Didn't realise they were so close minded.majadamusNot surprising at all. They have a disparaging term for foreigners called "gaijin". They're probably very xenophobic. They are.

A friend of mine who lived in Japan for a couple of years once told me that "When you first come to Japan people will look at you like a dog that walks on hind legs. But when you stay longer, you learn the language and the culture then they look at you completely different. More like a dog that walks on its hind legs that speaks Japanese".
I don't mean to generalise, though.
Didn't realise they were so close minded.SaltyMeatballsYeah. It's not like we play mostly FPS's here.
I think the Japanese disdain for Western games stems from their general disdain for firearms...67gt500Was the upcoming Yakuza game involved the main characters using firearms including machine guns against zombies?
They are xenophobic, not just to westerners but even the surrounding Asian cultures. Not all Japanese are xeno, obviously but it is pretty common.

[QUOTE="TheShadowLord07"]was this sarcasm? I can't tell. since it's from silvur, I'm assuming it is sarcasm.[QUOTE="siLVURcross"]Exactly, something we don't do here at all!funsohng

[QUOTE="67gt500"]I think the Japanese disdain for Western games stems from their general disdain for firearms...thom_mayteesWas the upcoming Yakuza game involved the main characters using firearms including machine guns against zombies? Yeah, there's going to be more gunplay in that one... but Yakuza games (so far) have been more about dealing the damage with your fists, feet and things in the game environment... the Japanese just aren't enamoured with guns like N. Americans are - if they make a product with firearms, they're probably just trying to pander to the NA / European market(s)...

The majority of japanese games are not well received in the west, however more Japanese games are accepted here than they accept western games..

We do they same thing, it's just not as bad.
Generally they have the good sense not to publish games like IdolMasters or Gal Gun in the West. But if they did those would flop badly. We do they same thing, it's just not as bad.

I wish I could say it was just a matter of different aesthetic and gameplay tastes, but it's odd that games like Resident Evil 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4 do so well on the list while the average Western game wouldn't be touched with a ten foot pole. Japanese audience don't seem to mind fawning over shooters with Western characters and realistic graphics... they just seem to prefer the game be made in Japan and have a familiar Japanese series name attached to it.
They dont like us at all... just look at this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkXUOefxZu0

Didn't realise they were so close minded.SaltyMeatballsdude your talking about a people that for some 200-300 years were xenophobic to the point of not letting any foreigner except the dutch on the entire island...I wont even mention the friends they picked during WW2.
I live in the best place in the world for gaming. North America. If I lived in japan Id be a close minded gamer and if I lived in europe companies would take forever releasing the game.
[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Didn't realise they were so close minded.InfinityMugenYeah. It's not like we play mostly FPS's here. But on the other hand, titles like Final Fantasy and Street Fighter, and so on sell well here. It's not really the same.
This is the same reason the 360 is flopping in Japan. Not because Microsoft has tried but because Microsoft isnt run by Japanese employees.
Most games come out in European countries at the same time, there are exceptions like DS but that goes both ways,I guess.I live in the best place in the world for gaming. North America. the gen has been pretty lame if you like japanese games . western gamers have no taste its all call of duty and space Marines .
[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Didn't realise they were so close minded.DiviniuzI just don't think developers bother advertising their Western games there, so I think that might be an issue
Actually, the amount of advertising and floor space given to western games mentioned in the article surprised me as well. The devs and publishers are really pushing these products... it just sounds like the people don't care.
"The term 'foreign game' is traditionally an insult — it means 'low quality."Japan gamers calling our games Crap................. I think its about time someone sent them a mirror because there hasn't been a decent JRPG in years.
And Uncharted2, Dragon age, mass effect, ect, ect. The west has produced many great games this gen.the gen has been pretty lame if you like japanese games . western gamers have no taste its all call of duty and space Marines .
