EDIT: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6252657.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;1

However, Monday afternoon, Activision amended its annual report with the Securities and Exchange Commission to include a notice that two top members of the studio are being fired. The filing read, "The Company [Activision] is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward. This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

So, Jason West and Vince Zampella have been fired.

Keep here so say the Captain Harlock cat!!!

Could be a fake. I wouldn't jump to conclusions right away. Also, we need a sticky for this.

I think ACTI is cleaning house. The holiday is over, this is when you let people go.

However, I'm going to reserve a final judgement until I hear and read more....right now, who knows what's going on.

------------

OH SNAP...I called it! That's how Corporate Rolls, and it's cleaning time. Use the talent up, then throw them away after the holidays. I've seen this too many times before...:(

-------------

According to a source within the studio, Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West met with Activision this morning and haven't been seen by staff members since. Word is that the relationship between the developer and publisher is "tense."

The atmosphere around the studio is described as "freaked out" and "confused." The source reported that "everyone is on edge."

It appears that studio head Jason West has been let go from Infinity Ward. West's LinkedIn account now lists his position as "past," and shows that the position ended in March 2010. In addition, one of our own sources inside Infinity Ward has said that Activision is "flexing their muscles" against the studio, which is attempting to "push back against change."

------------

LINK #2 :

ACTIVISION CITES INFINITY WARD INSUBORDINATION.

"Jason West and Vince Zampella, two lead developers at Infinity Ward, met with Activision earlier today. Then they seemed to disappear and "bouncer-types" showed up at the studio. This Activision filing might explain why.

"The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward," Acitivsion states in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. "This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

Activision also adds that it will be releasing another Call of Duty game this year. That game is believed to be developed Treyarch.

According to West's Facebook and Linked In pages, he is currently no longer working for Infinity Ward."

I don't believe it. Activision is going to lay off the developers of a certain game that made them millions? I guess Kotick is really out of his mind.

He doesn't need the developers. People will buy Modern Warfare 3 even if it's made by Spark Unlimited.

Doesn't justify cutting the talent behind the franchise without having a legitimate reason.

Maybe the talent wanted a larger cut of the profits than Activision was willing to part with?

Why fork out cash for expensie developers when it's the name that will sell? So long as the box says modern warfare 3, it won't matter who makes the game.

Exactly. If MW3 fails horribly, Activision would want some of the old talent to make MW4 good again so the gamers will buy it. MS did the same thing if I remember correctly. Didn't them hire some of the developers from the studios they shut down and created a new studio? I know that MS hired some Bungie employees when MS and Bungie decided to split ways. Very sound decision right there. I can't see Activision being stupid enough to just lay off all that talent. Would be funny if EA picked them all up.

because he can save the company some money by not having to keep people on the pay role. Like dgsag said, people will buy their next installment no matter what. This isn't about about quality anymore for Activision, it's about taking short cuts and earning the big money. whether you like it not that's how it's going to be for them from now on.

Infinity Ward is popular with Call of Duty players. if Treyarch made modern Warfare 3 it wouldn't be as popular, it would sell, about 2/3rds but eventually will go down. I still remember the backlash of COD3.

Yeah, but look at where they are with Guitar Hero now. Harmonix and Rock Band are on their asses constantly (even more so in the future when RBN is launched), and about 3 people bought Van Halen. Even the people who got it for free aren't playing it. What's going to happen when they've got Treyarch (at best) making CoD while EA is turning out Medal of Honor games with frickin' DICE, and IW is out doing their own thing, maybe even for EA? They would be boned.

i don't think Activision thinks that far a head honestly. And they certainly don't evaluate their own trends in terms of sales and quality. They see this huge Modern Warfare fan base they have, and will keep supplying them with the same stuff.

It would be a miracle for them to pull off a EA and earn back some respect

If short, laughable campaigns coupled with unbalanced, broken multiplayer is your thing, hey, go for it. Makes no difference to me. I know what I and other long-time CoD vets want from a game that is tied to the Call of Duty name.

In the SHORT term. MW3 might sell good, but eventually without the talent behind it, MW will have a collapse like the GH franchise.

I didn't say it because it was edgy, I said it because he is an outright disgrace for their company. The guy's job is public relations and he is supposed to be a forum admin. You should have seen the chaos (this is the only way to describe it) that erupted over the release of MW2. Instead of communicating with the user base and actually enjoining in discourse, answering questions, and properly moderating the forums, he climbed back in his ivory tower and belittled everyone in the market while tweeting to his faves on Xbox Live. One user on the IW forums described it as him sharing his late night pillow chat with his Xbox Live buddies but not being willing to actually commit himself to his job when it came to a genuine issue. The guy HID. Hiding is unacceptable when you're in public relations....

Hey, I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I'm just saying that the consumer base still thinks it's quality for the most part, and the reviewers still think it's quality for the most part, so for all intents and purposes it's still quality.

No, not for all intents and purposes. Modern Warfare 2 was a very high budget, highly polished blockbuster release, and the critics and gamers creamed their pants alike when it came out because it was flashy and sparkly. Unfortunately some of us can see through the luster and sheen because we've been playing serious, competitive games for quite a bit longer and fail to see the appeal. The game's multiplayer mode was flat-out ridiculous and unacceptable to anyone who likes a genuine competitive multiplayer experience. The reviewers simply dropped the ball and they were unwilling to see the glaring faults....the huge bugs that are still being uncovered or new ones being patched into existence today, the terrible net code, the ridiculous and unbalanced multiplayer leveling/unlocks system, the way the entire game has devolved into a middle school fragfest.... Frankly if the reviewers are willing to give it high marks it just solidifies my working theory which is that game reviewers take production values first and foremost into consideration when reviewing games, everything else is secondary....gameplay mechanics, bugs, balance, what have you.

Holy $#^&

Can't believe this. Laying off the guys who made them a boatload of cash? Wow, if true. He'll find employment somewhere, fairly easily I suspect, if he doesn't start his own company.

I never considered buying MW2. Soooooo glad I never supported this horrible company.

If this guy starts his own company and makes a shooter, I'd be inclined to buy.

[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"] I'm just saying that the consumer base still thinks it's quality for the most part, and the reviewers still think it's quality for the most partVerge_6
Hence why I'm saying Activision has nothing to worry about.

But we know that the Treyarch games weren't as well received. Obviously there's something missing in those for a lot of people beyond IW's name on the box.

the concept is in the short term MW3 will be fine. World at War made a killing. Modern Warfare 3 the Treyarch FPS will do great as well. Also they will technically still have Infinity Ward, I doubt the entire staff will quit and follow jason. They all have their own families to worry about. They will still have I-Ward. They just lost one of the cofounders I believe.
