Creator Jenova Chen says creation of critically applauded game bankrupted ThatGameCompany. They went on to say that releasing it as a PS3 exclusive actually hurt the game and that further games from them would be multiplats. They did make their money back however but they feel they could have had more if it had been multiplat

The studio is planning a "full-scale online service" for its next game that will accommodate hundreds of thousands of users.

No good trying to sell a game to the type of people who hype it and then don't buy it. Good decision.

It broke PlayStation Network sales records and is fastest-selling PSN game ever. Just another day, another dollar and SDC. Thank you Sony.

On one hand it seems like the perfect game for the huge indie crowd on the PC. On the other it wouldn't have been GOTY on IGN. :P

Make it multiplat, exclusive, doesn't matter, as long as it's available for me to buy, I'll get their next game.

Yeah, you'd think the highest and fastest selling game on PSN would yield significant profit, but it seems that it will only get their money back. I bet the devs of Castle Crashers and Minecraft more than made their money back when they exclusive to XBLA.

It almost bankrupt them because they delayed the game for two years :| :| :|

Now they're going back to PC development.  Imagine how much Journey would have sold to the indie croud on PC.

Jenova Chen would be swimming in dat dere $100 milion fortune like the creator of Minecraft is.

Why on earth would somebody willingly make themselves exclusive to Sony, who doesnt care enough to give them proper promotion?  PSN is effectively the "Windows Phone 8" of the gaming industry :|.

I find that quite amusing as well. I find it more amusing that a walking simulator is loved by so many. This game is the eptiome of all flash and zero substance yet people love it and hate other games that follow suit.

Interrestingly enough, the game was nowhere to be found on PSn's top 10 downloads per month (it got back up there ONLY after winning GOTY) while almost every other game up there is older than it by several years.

Considering the fanbase it is not shocking that it took some awards for the game to sell.

Im sure hes kicking himself knowing that if it werent for Sony's incompetence, he would have a 9 figure bank account right now. He would be on dat Beiber time.

Everyone trolls Sony about their incompetence when it comes to promoting games, but they forget to realize that Sony's incompetence DOES have an effect on others.

How do you know this though? Hotline Miami was pretty praised but on last report it only did 130k. Someone also brought up Ninja Theory, who hasn't been able to make a game that has sold the same amount as HS since going multiplatform.

Nah sony had a 3 game contract with them.

Ah, but...then it isn't an indie game, in the same way that Bayonetta 2 isn't an indie game.

I mean, if they're funded by one of the big three, how can it be 'independent'? It's a downloadable title produced by a major company.

Makes it kind of weird that it won so many indie awards, when it was competing with titles that were actually independently funded.

Highest selling game of all time on PSN and it STILL bankrupted the company that developed it? Kind of shows what that title actually means, yikes.

It's amazing that a 90 minute game with literally no gameplay elements other than walking can take 2+ years.

And floating, chirping, surfing.

None of those are complex and would require any experienced dev much time at all to incorporate into their game.
