Reason why they had problems was because they couldn't stay on schedule. Sony first paid them for two years development cycle, but it wasn't enough for thatgamecompany and they begged a year more from Sony. Sony did pay, but even that wasn't enough. Finally they had to work without pay and pay rest of the development themselves. So, they can partially blame themselves.Â
Highest selling PSN game. Awwwwww yeah.
I cried during GoTY Journey. So breathtaking; I was wondering what I was gonna experience next. So much awe in this game. I get inspired eveytime I play this masterpiece.
[QUOTE="Vatusus"]Enslaved was garbage though. thatgamecompanys next game might be good. They should be carefull in their words. The last company that said they regreted making a game PS3 exclusive was Ninja Theory, and look at their Enslaved sales...

Just because Flower and Journey were good does not automatically mean their next game will be. Flow, their 1st game, was a very weak game imo
Also, Enslaved was not garbage. Pretty fun game actually

No good trying to sell a game to the type of people who hype it and then don't buy it. Good decision.
Mrmedia01
You mean the fanbase that made it the highest selling game of all time on PSN.
Â
hahahahaha, Thats a Xbot if I ever seen one.
Â
Me an Xbot? Nope. I am a gamer and have been since the C64. I don't have some delusional attachment to a particular brand. I just go where the games are.
Â
Also being the highest selling on PSN is no achievement. How many copies do you need to sell to break that record, 50?
do u blame them? this game looks like it cost as much to make a a 5 dollar psn game. wonder where the money really went? bet the dude had alot of fun wasting money while he was making the game. if i were sony i would look into it and maybe sue the guy for fruadLOL
Cows don't buy their own exclusives. I'm not surprised

Well I think it was garbage, so Im not surprised it sold worse. Not to mention its marketing budget was a fraction of Heavenly swords.
Point being, thatgamecompany don't need to be careful about their words. If their next game sells badly, it won't simply be because they've went multiplatform. It will be for other reasons.

Ah.. avoiding my post entirely... Just admit it dude, you couldn't wait to bash Sony for just 30 seconds and skipped right past the topic at hand to put in your bashing. Come on dude we won't mock you for it, we see it everyday with cows, lems and hermits and all. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to dealing with it.On one hand it seems like the perfect game for the huge indie crowd on the PC. On the other it wouldn't have been GOTY on IGN. :Pblue_hazy_basicIsn't that interesting? If Journey was on PC as an exclusive, it wouldn't have won GOTY everywhere most likely.
Did anybody like The Unfinished Swan better than Journey? Â
Â
I beat Journey when it first came out, and I played the demo for Unfinished Swan and loved it. Â I think im going to buy the full game now. Â

This. Â Im sure you cant even tell me what the previous best selling title on PSN was. ÂÂ
Major Nelson personally posts numbers for XBLA top games all the time. Sony didnt post figures because they know nothing they post will be impressive, and by posting them, it will make PSN look inferior to Xbox Live Arcade. Â This is the same reason why Sony doesnt release NPD numbers anymore, and why they combined their worldwide sales with PS2 and PSP. Â They only convey the positive, and dont acknowlege the existance of the negative. Â
its that robotech on your sig?Headline says one thing, and his post says the complete opposite. Good job.

read it again, he is not complaining about sales, he wants his games to reach a wider audience like Minecraft did. And just think about it, if they are bankruptcy then how is the company still alive and are going to make a new game? Yes, because Journey sold well and they have the capital to continue making games.Â
Eventually, it did make it's money back plus some, but not Minecraft money, Chen says. While it was well received, it wasn't well received by a big enough audience for Chen.

And quite honestly, when you as a dev take 3 years to make a 90 minute game, and then sell it for 15$ what would you expect? Sony allowed them to delay the game for 2 extra years while also sending people from Santa Monica to help out with the game. In a normal situation thatgamecompany would have killed themselves with this project. Most publishers would force them to keep on schedule and just release whatever they had or terminate the project (and thus get no money back. At all). Also while we have no numbers ( so kind of hard to say sales were bad or good without them) I'm sure being the best seller on PSN isn't as bad as some are making it seem. Did it reach millions? Pretty sure it didn't. Did it sell so low that it "bankrupted" them? Nope. In fact the article itself says they did make their money back and the some more. The original article uses the term "bankrupt" quite loosely.. bankrupt means having no money for anything, not making back what you spent (and then more).
The way thatgamecompany is going about all this seems and feels arrogant. Like they could have achieved all of this without Sony being lenient or SM giving them a big hand. Being multiplatform doesn't instantly equal millions more sales. It gives you a chance yes, but it doesn't magically happen. (case in point Ninja Theory -- very similar situation and arrogance that came back to bite them in the ass later on).
How are they being arrogant? they're addmitting that keeping the game exclusive to one platform like hurt them from the beggining.
And honestly I still don't understand why this would come back to bite them or why it bit Ninja Theory in the ass.
Are you telling me people only cared about the games in the first place because they were exclusive to the PS3? If so that's a terrible reason to buy a game
Is TC dumb? lol
the artical says they were in a bad position and were about to go bankrupt but thanks to Journey now they arent anymore which translates to Journey made them lots of money.

the game turned a profit for them, it sounds like the bankruptcy thing stems from some internal studio issues, either way i hope their games make it to the pc, flower is my favorite game from them so if they make more games like that, i'm down for the ride
