I think it's sad how Nintendo fanboys are protecting Wii and Nintendo despite the fact that Nintendo could care less for them. azad_champ

Well, not sad, really, it's the definition of fanboy.

FANBOY -

Stereotypical fanboys are attributed with a sycophantic devotion to the creators and principles behind a work with which they are currently enthralled. Fanboys are noted for a very emotional attachment to their chosen subject, often taking negative remarks about it as a personal attack. They will readily engage in debates, but will fall back on emotional responses when challenged on facts. For example, a fanboy may go out of his way to point out negative and often untrue statements about their obsession's rivals. Fanboys are often hostile towards critical review of their chosen subject. The stereotypical image of the fanboy is as an unkempt, socially awkward young man who may be perceived as a loud mouthed pseudo-intellectual.

If Nintendo still cares about the hardcore, why have they been pushing this rhetoric at every single media event ever? E3 is a 'casual' event? Leipzig is a 'casual' event? If that's the case, what isn't a casual event?

Nintendo is showing journalists Brain Training and Wii Fit and telling them, "This is what we see as the future of gaming." How much clearer could they possibly be about their intentions?

TreyoftheDead

The evidence is there, and has been there for a while, when it comes to Nintendo shifting their primary focus over to casual games. However, I have yet to see evidence that they are completely abandoning hardcore gamers, meaning they will never make another hardcore game again. The key word there being completely.

We won't know that until someone at Nintendo states,"We are no longer making any hardcore games...", or until later this generation when their output completely lacks hardcore games.

I don't think Nintendo will ever completely stop making hardcore games. As long as there are people who believe that Nintendo still loves them, there will be a market for those kinds of games, and ignoring it altogether would be foolish.

Just because Nintendo isn't halting all production of hardcore games, however, doesn't mean that they aren't going to scale back. The lack of 2008 announcements normally wouldn't be worrying to me (it isn't exactly like Microsoft's been forthcoming about their plans for the next year), but that combined with Nintendo's increasingly anti-hardcore rhetoric makes me concerned that this will be the last year where we see Nintendo putting out a significant number of hardcore titles.

And you think Microsoft and Sony do care?

You shouldn't have said that. Sony made God of War,Ico,SOTC,Ratchet and Jak. Now they are making Lair,HS,Warhawk,Folklore,KZ2 and more.

[QUOTE="Ontain"]Nintendo themselves have been doing this since the DS. yet the DS still rocks because it is the dominant handheld and gets good 3rd party now as well. I see the wii becoming the same thing. well see most of the core gamer type games from 3rd party later.Shazenab

People love the DS. They just don't want to a console version of it.

Why wouldn't people want a console ds? Its one of the better systems in this generation...

Its what I want as a handheld not a console.
