Judging By May NPD, PS3 Will Never Pass X360

X360 outsold the PS3 by 40,000 units on the May NPD.

X360 S releases in June and sells out everywhere.

The majority of sales left this gen are going to be to casuals (Madden, COD, GTA players) and casuals like the lower-priced, less-accesorized, more gamer-orientated X360.

If you disagree, explain to me how/why/what is going to happen to cause the PS3 to somehow pass the X360 in sales this gen

World Wide is a different story... PS3 is outselling the 360, at the rate it is it will beat 360 in sales

lol Sony has been constantly outselling the 360 week after week after week in Japan and Europe. The gap between the ps3 and 360 in NA hasn't even been that much so the ps3 has been constantly outselling the 360 WW since the ps3 released. why do you think the lead went from 8 million to 5 million? NPD doesn't equal the world its just for NA. And i know must of us know that but some people still don't realize that NPD is for North America only not the world.

This is one of the few cases where America =/= to the whole world is valid.

Sony has been clearly knocked off its pedestool as the premier gaming console to own. 120+ million PS2's down to what? 35 million PS3's? sad.

Microsoft carries all the momentum of success through this generation. They actually have sold more 360's than Oxbox and still climbing. regardless of where the console numbers end up and YES, they may end up with sony on top worldwide, Microsoft did exactly what they needed to do this generation which is cut their enemies head off... period.

NEXT generation is really where the fun will begin... I mean how will they convince the general public that I need to own one multiplat console over another? get used to it folks... copycat everything from here on out.

Methinks TC needs to spend less time worrying about sales for a sigle region and play his 360 more. PS3 is doing fine.

Microsoft took on Sony head on at their own game, where Nintendo forged a different path that thankfully for them, payed off.

Keep in mind where not sure of the sticking power of the new redesigned 360 and also keep in mind PS3s were only really well in stock really last month. So why dont we wait for the next 2 NPDs to properly gauge anything? and even if they dont outsell 360, who cares? That wont make PS3 a failure or anything.

Hypothetically lets say the PS3 does catch up to the X360. They needed basically an entire region to themselves (Japan) to make it happen with 5X the install base last generation. No matter what happens, Sony was outplayed hard this generation. Imagine if RROD happened to PS3 instead of X360. Woulda been an absolute massacreshadow8585

We'll we will see when the June NPD is released eh? I dont know if its impact will be as powerful but the gap between the two consoles in June will be greater than in May thanks in large part to the new sku.

Correction: the PS3 will never pass the 360 in North America. However whether it's sales will pass it in Europe or Japan, and ultimately the world, is unknown. Only a 40,000 gap in NA is tiny, the 360 usually whoops the PS3 here.

hmmm, Sony always sacrificed some money to reach more consumers ..... the PS3 sales are gradually declining (slightly)... at some point, Sony will cut the price no matter what .... after 1 year, i can see the PS3 momentum completely gone which will require another price drop ..... and in the worst case scenario, the x360 gets a price cut, this will force Sony to lower the price again.2mrw

I don't see that happening yet again, Sony has been losing money for three and half years on PS3 hardware. I think they found their sweet spot for the price, and the most I can see happening is Move being incorporated into PS3s at no additional cost. I find it highly unlikely a price drop is coming, especially so shortly after the previous price drop.
