I normally like Kevin Butler's jokes...but this is one step too far

I think the conversations are fine, but the campaign as a whole fell short of the mark for me. I thought the ending in particular was quite bad and things like herding cows and taming wild horses is not exactly what I would call fun either. Overall, it is indeed a great game, though. I just do not think it is anywhere close to being the masterpiece that it is hyped to be. I gave it a 9.0, but after careful consideration, I think it is probably more deserving of an 8.5. Again, I still really enjoyed the game, I just think it is a bit overrated.

LOL, that's OK. That is the beauty of having your own opinion.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great game, and god knows it is loaded with more content than AW. I simply enjoyed AW as a game more and that is the difference. I think the ending in particular is what dampened the experience for me and the mundane activities did not help either. I still really enjoyed the game overall, though. Just not quite as much as I thought I would.
Lol. At people thinking it's actually him. It's a twitter account, it could be anyone in Sony Marketing.
As for the conversations, What do you expect? A stimulating conversation about politics or the racial tensions of the times? The convos are just fine for people trying to keep their balance on the back of an animal.

why don't you try and figure it out since it seem like you don't know.I honestly don't think you have an answer. Because if you did, you would just say it.
Wow, people need to not take things so seriously.
This is exactly a comment Yahtzee would make in one of his reviews and it wouldn't gather this much hate.
Anyone who gets butt hurt over this needs to take a vacation or something because you are taking things to seriously. This is the exact same as a Yahtzee comment. It is entirely meant to be tongue in cheek.
2. The "answer" to him becoming more popular for these kinds of things that "get fanboys raging", is that "there is no such thing as bad press". Things like this draw more attention to Sony's marketing campaign, which is the goal. If you are raging, then you are inadvertently helping Sony marketing, like it or not. The only way to fight this is with bored indifference, so try that out. Now to watch as 45 people ignore my incredibly sensible post and continue to yell over eachother. 8)Hahadouken
I understand that this dynamic happens with a lot of things, but I don't see how it will happen in this case. It was a throwaway comment about something insignificant. And getting fanboys on small corners of the internet to rage will most likely not lead to any boost in Sony's popularity or likely won't lead to the marketing campaign getting any more attention than it all ready got in said corners. The logic you're laying out applies heavily when certain books or songs are banned, but it's unlikely that the dynamic will be at play here. Why would it?
Your answer might seem to have weight in the world of theory, but I find that in practice, it doesn't really wash. There is good press, there is bad press, and there is "not much press at all." I think this falls into the last category.
1. "Kevin Butler" is a character. He is an actor named Jerry Lambert and for all we know he loves the Wii and hates the PS3. If you think the guy in the commercials is posting things on Twitter about video games, you are a little delusional. :P 2. This should really end the thread, if you ask me. Some folks are about lightning rod sensitive over this stuff. It is all fun and games, remember, lol? Even if he absolutely abhorred the game, is it really going to affect your enjoyment of it? Not everyone is going to always enjoy the same things you do. This should be common sense, but hey, we are in System Wars. Common sense and logic are alien concepts in this place.

Also: While this is not exactly bad press, the idea that "there is no such thing as bad press" is a myth. There is definitely such thing as "unwanted attention." This is why most celebrities don't do every crazy thing that might draw attention to themselves.

That bit under 3 describes pretty much everything related to the Kevin Butler campaign. It's ok, though. The fact you didn't pick up on it just means you don't get it. You are not alone (especially around here).Seriously. Why are people so butt hurt about this? Even if RDR is your favorite game... guess what? HE IS NOT BASHING IT. Comedians make jokes about things. That's how they make money. Do potheads get upset when they're watching a stand-up comic who makes jokes about people smoking pot? No, they laugh, because they realize the comic isn't bashing it, he's making a joke.
They are just like the GTA IV convos where they are relevant to your current situation and depending on who you are talking to can range from serious to pretty hilarious.BTW, for people who've played RDR, how do the conversations compare to GTA IV's? Because the in-car conversations were some of my favorite parts of the game.

They don't? Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Tila Tequila, Paris Hilton, Kendra Wilkinson, Joaquin Phoenix would beg to differ... Anyway that's an old quote and isn't meant to be taken 100% literally in the first place, but the idea behind it still stands.

I get very into arguments that I'm passionate about, but I don't get pedantic and call people out or rage on them. I haven't been moderated in months actually, not even a warning. 8) Been a good boy.

I said "most celebrities." I think you'll find that most of them don't act like Lindsay Lohan. You didn't even post close to enough examples to establish a trend.
I don't think it should be taken figuratively either (but then again, I tend to hate "sayings" because they usually are so at odds with reality). I could list hundreds of celebrities if you really need me to "establish a trend". Certainly the trend exists, and certainly I shouldn't have to defend a quote that's been around for decades. The principles are the same, and "Kevin Butler" stirring the pot is an example. It's better to have fanboys in a rage, drawing attention to the statement that it wouldn't have otherwise received, and by proxy bringing attention to Sony, than to say nothing and miss out on an opportunity to self-promote. It's marketing and apparently it's working.A) You have no idea if it's working or not. Unless you can measure how many sales this "fanboy rage" is netting them, what you're saying is conjecture, conjecture based on an abstract principle that is hardly absolute. These SW are little oddball places on the interwebz. It is the wrong place to gauge the success of this weird approach to marketing.
A) You could list hundreds of celebrities. And could probably list thousands that don't engage in Lohan-like behavior. Unless a large amount relative to the amount of celebrities there are are doing this stuff, I wouldn't call that a trend.
B) Just because a quote is old does not give it any more validity. It can be as old as Jesus for all I care. If it clashes with reality, I'm not going to take it as any sort of truth. Bad press is beneficial in some situations and it is not beneficial in other situations.
c) "Miss out on an opportunity?" Are you serious? They can tweet about something like this any damn time they want. Also, if they wants to take an opportunity, why would they go for something as low impact as this? By your own logic, there are far better ways to draw attention to a marketing campaign. Why would this do the trick, especially this is only going to draw attention from places in which people talk about their marketing campaign everyday. I think that anybody thinks that an insignificant comment about RdR is going to have some of effect is overestimating the power of comments about so-called boring conversations in RDR.
D) You assume that celebrities like Lohan act crazy solely for publicity. Sometimes that's the case and other times their lives are a mess and being a celebrity, everybody can see their dity laundry.

[QUOTE="Snugenz"][QUOTE="mrmusicman247"] Exactly. He's an actor. So people need to stop taking him so seriously. Rockman999
I never suggested i was taking him seriously, but Sony's PR people who right the stuff could take it too far someday. (piss off 3rd party devs etc.)
Yeah 3rd party devs/publishers would cut off support for a userbase of ~35 million because a Sony spokesperson hurt their feelings. Wait, when did corporations gain feelings? :? C'mon man, you don't really think these corporate relationships are that fragile, do you?Where in any of my posts did i even hint that it would cause them to cut off support for the PS3?. I said it could piss them off, and by that i meant just that, piss them off. I didnt and wouldnt imply any negative actions taken towards Sony because of this.
Thats what cracks me up about this place, all these people saying "why are you getting mad blah blah blah", alot of us that dont agree with this statement arent mad or hurt or anything, we just dont see the point of this particular quote. Why are you defending this so much, are you mad/hurt/offended that i'm expressing my opinion about what i consider to be a bad publicity stunt thats in poor taste ?
I have nothing to gain from criticising this article, i'm not defending any console preference or expressing a dislike for the company in question. I'm just calling out something i think is pointless.
