Killer Instinct and Xbox One Get Booed at EVO 2013

Before this event, I didn't think MS had that serious of a PR issue. Nothing they couldn't salvage at least. After spending time talking with people at EVO and in Las Vegas for a weekend, i'm starting to think it might be worse than I imagined.

Also... the game was incredibly boring.

Because the games ran smoother on 360 (they do), many US tournaments that weren't EVO ran the 360 version exclusively. In fact, there was a recent debacle with a big name player at a tournament blaming him dropping a combo due to a frame-rate drop on the PS3.

The only reason EVO predominantly runs the PS3 version of titles is back at the start of this generation, they were donated a bunch of PS3s by Sony so that they could run tournaments. Ever since, they've just been using them since running tournaments costs a ton of money and they don't make very much for them in return.

With how much hate they spread around the industry you almost think that they want nothing, but for the industry to crash and die.

It makes me worry for the future of gaming. Guys can't even show off a new fighting game at a fighting game convention without cows wishing death upon them

At the end of the day, it's those people who were booing who have the final say in how successful this new KI is. So you can bitch all you want about people booing the exclusitivity , but if the developers see that the sales are failing on the XB1, they will bring it to ps4.

100% correct.

Most FGC community tournaments are run on shoe string budgets, unlike MLG where Microsoft/Riot actively campaign to have their games there and throw tons of money into the scene to establish themselves as the console/game of choice. There's a reason DOTA isn't played at MLG, but LoL is. Just like there's a reason Xbox 360 is the console of choice for Call of Duty at MLG, but not PS3. $$$$$$$$$$

The fact that EVO uses PS3's doesn't mean the audience is "cowz LOL". That's just the platform used in the tournament. Many play pro fighters play on 360 and stream via XBL because of the better internet.

For those who can't read portuguese, the article likens the possibilities of Kinect to Orwell's 1984 saying that MS could use the camera to count how many people are watching a movie to charge accordingly, or to get people's reactions to adds, games or movies to improve the product, etc.

It's old news in the US and EU, but shows that the bad press is spreading worldwide. Must be due to cows' word of mouth. Damn, they go far.

Yeah, alot of majors and minors use the 360, and there's a PS3 here and there just because that's what Evo uses.

Also, it's funny that people are so quick to judge the new Killer Instinct and I doubt many if any of you have played it.

Can't see how after the sh!t capcom has pulled with their fighters this gen.

EVO uses PS3's for the most part. The fighting game community is mostly on the Playstation platform. Seeing Microsoft get booed there isn't surprising or worth a thread, imo.

No, the FGC does not love Sony or any platform manufacturer. They are pretty impartial in that sense. It's not like you saw Playstation All-Stars get prominent placement in tournaments with huge crowds for the title. I posted something earlier why the FGC was pro-360 because the games ran better, and EVO runs on PS3s because Sony had donated them early on in gen 7 so EVO could run tournies, since they don't make a lot of money for running tournaments in order to buy their own gear.

As for the quality of Killer Instinct on Xbone - There are a ton of bad/weird things going on with that game. I know quite a bit on fighting games and game design (I do it for a living afterall), and I can already tell you that this game won't do well outside of day 1 xbox fanboys. It certainly won't create a big push a la SF2 in the early 90s for fighting games, and I can guarantee you that the FGC will shun the title because of its wonky mechanics.

In the end, people who aren't Xbox fans aren't going to like the game because its on Xbox One, they're not going to like it because its a bad fighting game. :(

You may own those consoles, but you still seem like a complete jerk by calling the crowd "TEH COWS."  Let's be honest, anyone that participates and/or watches players in the fighting game community participate in the tournaments, especially EVO, want to have fun and win.  There were over 6000 competitors and stream records were broken.  We don't care about some silly console race for the most part.  We play fighting games, thats all.
