So you've played game? Sweet, what's it like?

BigBoss154

PSN: Terror531 Potential Spoiler for people with bad taste Rico gets your boy shot, and then has the ****ing nerve to tell you to suck it up. Homeboys douchebag friend gets killed by Radec. You go on a mech spree, then you make an assault on some fortress bull****, fight Radec, a bunch of dudes, and ****. Rico kills Vasari. Game ends with a giant Helghan Fleet coming in over head. I apologize for actually having some ****ing standards when it comes to plot :]

I thought you were referring to Killzone 3 in your first post, not 2.

Oh I was...I'm crystal balling it.

I think what he's saying is, considering how bad the plot in 2 was, there's a big change 3 won't be much better. I mean, how many actual games that have come out have good stories compared to their predecessor?

hopefully the main characters will have grown out of the habit of using the F-word non-stop and behaving like teenagers going paint balling. otherwise i guess i'll be having pretty sore eyes after 70 minutes of rolling them everytime a character opens their mouth.

Any game that features Rico in a leading/supporting/minor/any role that isn't immediate, hilarious death role instantly makes it unable to have a good story. FACT

MGS3's was definitely better than MGS2's story. But it still wasn't actually "good".

Although this depends how high one's standards are.

That did well because it was a prequel. Even then it still suffered from the other aspects of the MGS series that still bothers people. IE The dialogue, excessive use of cutscenes, hooky concepts. Admittedly though MGS 3 is the exception, not the rule.

70 minutes of listening to Rico say the F word? No thanks.

No, the story is not Oscar worthy material, but this is no different than most shooters out there. Love it or hate it, at least they are actually putting some focus on it rather than just slapping together and tacking on some half-assed campaign as filler for what is essentially a game for multiplayer only. In other words, it is looking like a complete package and regardless of the story, it looks fun as hell and has production value through the roof. If wanting to play a technically impressive, fun as hell game means I have 'bad taste', then so be it.

I'll definitely be picking it up for a story featuring rich, complex characters like Rico.

I know this is SW, where no logical reason is required to troll on a game, but how exactly is Killzone's storyline so dang horrible as far as FPS shooters go? To me, the story was a pretty standard FPS shoot 'em up with an above-average backstory.

A prequel doesn't automatically make a story better, though. It's pretty obvious Kojima listened to what the fans had to say about MGS2 (even though I disagree with it), and made a story that was more appealing/better to most people. An improvment? Yes.

Gurillia seem to be doing the same. Listening to the fans/reviewers; taking out the erroneousswearing, exploring the Helghast culture, language etc. and hiring a bunch of Hollywood writers to help with the story. Seems like it's gonna be an improvment to me.

The story in Killzone is nothing to write home. Rico is shallow as hell but so is Master Chief unlike what many lemmings try to pass as a good FPS story Halo sucks ass as well. So I don't get why all the complains when all people know what to expect from the standard western FPS.

Yes, at least they are taking the time to actually give us a campaign. Regardless if you care for the story or not, it is obvious that they have taken the time to put focus on it. More than I can say for some of the other big shooters out there, which by the way, also lack deep and compelling stories. Let alone a decent campaign to accompany the multiplayer..

=| You do not need to have so many cutscenes in order to have a decent narrative.
You do not need cutscenes in order to have an excellent narrative of all things.

Half-Life came out over TWELVE years ago people.
Hell, even look at Bioshock for a recent example of doing it right, please, in the shooter genre.

These are video *games*.

Why is there so much focus on imitating film so frequently in *games*, let alone not even done well enough to justify it?

Agreed. I found K2's story above average. Much better than any COD campaign that's for sure.

They definitely seem to be focusing more on the story this time around, but that has backfired for past fps'es before. We'll just have to wait and see.

A prequel isn't also tied down to fixing the stupidity of a predecessor though. If anything it's laying the ground work for what's to come ahead. Just saying it's a major difference doing a prequel than doing a sequel.

Indeed we will. Regardless, as long as it is fun then it's all good for me. From what I have seen, KZ3 will have no problems delivering on that front. At least for me anyway.

The same goes for characters...I know Rico gets all the hate, and his personality was a bit grating, but Natko and Garza were pretty entertaining to tag along with. People act as though Rico is the only other ISA character in the entire game.

Killzone 3 is going to try to take itself seriously then with its story? Oh noes.Stevo_the_gamer

From what I've read, it's actually the opposite. Herman Hulst said that one of the things about Uncharted 2 that inspired them was the lightheartedness of the story / storytelling. They think they took themeselves too serious with Killzone 2. KZ3 def. won't be a comedy, but they are trying to find a balance and actually put forth an effort in the writing.

I think this could be a good thing :). Should def. be better than KZ2 lol. I hope no one expects Mass Effect calibur dialogue and character depth though!

When a character causes the death of another character, blames you for it, swears throughout the entire game, given by far the most annoying dialogue, and then is basically the entire cause of the war continuing through his ridiculous actions at the end of the game (all while somehow not getting discharged from the army), that one character kind of sticks out like a sore thumb when the rest of the characters are serviceable/forgettable

well the rest of the cast was a bunch of douchebags Outside of the ham sandwich line. They were pretty stupid as well(and Sev had such a stupid hairdo). But yeah Rico transcends standard awfulness. He's a Deity of all things horrid.

Because people actually noticed the obnoxious arrogant stereotype amongst the cast of boring cardboard cut outs; making him all the more annoying. Oh and there was that ending as icing on cake of this. Killzone 3's characters and plot can only be better than the mediocrity that was the Killzone 2. Not to say that it didn't work as a good excuse for some pretty great set pieces and location hopping that stood out from time to time. Shame about the complete lack of humanising the Helgans other than 'here is a shanty town and harsh deserts'; from what I have heard the third is rectifying this, which is already a step above.

Rico is bad enough to make Armor Lock or the sex scene in Heavy Rain look like a good thing.

I think Rico dies in this game because in the latest episode of QORE there is a preview to KZ3 and in one of the cut-scenes Sev says something like "Rico did all of this for us" or something around that.

EDIT: here is the video @1:30

No he isn't. Dude tells Sev to keep Rico on a tighter leash. Meaning get him in check. He wouldn't say that if he was dead.

As long as the cut scenes aren't in 10-15 min increments, we'll be alright. Hopefully it will enhance the story and make the game better.

I wouldn't doubt if Sev was referring to the war itself (he did all this for us) and Rico ends up joining the Helghast or something. If that happens then Killzone 3 will officially have the best villain ever and I will want nothing more than to play that campaign with the promise of ending Rico's life. I think Rico dies in this game because in the latest episode of QORE there is a preview to KZ3 and in one of the cut-scenes Sev says something like "Rico did all of this for us" or something around that.

EDIT: here is the video @1:30

How did people miss this? Sounds interesting.

Because....the footage hardly says he'll die If anything it glorifies him -_-

Yup, it actually does haha.

I wouldn't doubt if Sev was referring to the war itself (he did all this for us) and Rico ends up joining the Helghast or something. If that happens then Killzone 3 will officially have the best villain ever and I will want nothing more than to play that campaign with the promise of ending Rico's life. Over and over and over and over...

It would be an instant buy. That level would be part of FPS Mission Hall of Fame. Right up there with the Ravenholms and the X18 labs of the genre.

Great news. My hype meter went from "wait " to "must buy".

I hate those mindless point and click shooters that constantly throw enemies at you without any story or cutscenes.

Oh good, more game developers that wish they were movie directors instead.

I love you, and agree 100%.

Hopefully this will lead to a good story.soulitane

70 minutes of cutscenes. It better be a damn fine story. Hate to come off as a guy who is never pleased, but it better deliver.

This doesn't mean the story will be any good. Bioshock had practically no cutscenes, and yet, the story was more complex and rich than all the Killzones combined (probably including this one too, and then some). Killzone 2 had great graphics, but everything else about the game was as generic as a shooter can possibly get. I almost fell asleep playing it because of boredom.

I hope the campaign is like Killzone 1 in terms of length, that game was longer than Killzone 2, and would be cool to have multiple playable characters like in the 1st as well.

The Killzone universe is actually pretty dang interesting if you read the peripheral material Guerilla has released for it. Oh waitz. Only Halo is allowed to use peripheral novels to "prove" the story is good. I am forget.

Mrmccormo

Every Halo game has had a good story, it is the storytelling within the Halo games that are complete crap.

[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]Killzone 3 is going to try to take itself seriously then with its story? Oh noes.Episode_Eve

Well,of course it's going to be better than KZ2. There's no possible way it could be worse... :P
