[QUOTE="Anjunaddict"][QUOTE="Timstuff"]When Microsoft considers buying stuff in the future, I think they need to ask themselves "why didn't our competitors want this?" before they commit.TimstuffWhy don't you wait and see how Kinect performs. Indeed. The performance and games are going to be unimpressive for core gamers. This is going to be a novelty for casuals just like that electric muscle training thingy I bought and forgot about when I was very young and dumb (and before I became real skinny by nature).
Why is this a bad thing?
When playing Kinect online, all those 13 yo can't give you the finger anymore! Or make weird movements with their fingers in which a hole and 1 finger is involved. M$ is way ahead of it's time when taking precautions. Remember when they decided to charge for XBL? That's when they understood the amount of 13 yo would be effectively be cut in half since 13 yo don't have the money for that kind of stuff.
Great stuff M$, please go on with your brilliant moves.
So ms wants 150 for a camera that has the same resolution as a 10dollar webcam? Am I missing something here?spike6566
your missing soo much, I dont think its possible to fill it
Kinect has been announced how long ago? why do people compare it to a camera, would you compare a webcam to a camcorder?

They do not understand that games besides those shown in the tech will use this.actually removing the processor was a good move, it will give a more flexible option for upgrades in the future, if you have a dedicated processor like that, upgrades means upgrading the hardware too
and you don't need a high resolution for input, your not outputing the image so it doesn't matter if it looks like crap, so long as they get the data they need, and processing images is an incredibly intensive on the CPU, likely its more for performance then it is for "down grading" the camera itself might actually support higher resolutions since there really isn't many native 320x240 cameras anymore.
OK, I also have to point out that the camera's resolution does not mean anything. You are not printing photos from the thing. The xbox is only using it to see how you are moving. This is a non issue really.TBoogy
come on, the resolution is the only thing that matters!
thats a joke

Correct me if I'm wrong but:
1: Removing the processor means kinect leeches processing power from the 360 = less power for the games?
2: having a lower resolution makes the camera worse at recognizing complex gestures?

According to ubisoft, it uses less than 5% of the 360's processing power or something like that.[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"]

it might leech from games, but they will be able to modify the code easier, it will be more flexible for upgrades which could be improvements, I doubt you really need a graphics power house for this anyway... not really, normally tracking works off of tracking masses and with the combination of 3 different types of camera's likely you'll reduce the processing time of each image and increase the accuracey. They only need to get general shapes and track the blobs of each shape.[QUOTE="Filthybastrd"][QUOTE="savagetwinkie"]

well Kinect games do look pretty good, and not many games use the full power, so I think kinect will be used for puzzle or areas that dont need alot of things going on. so I think kinect can still work with non kinect required games.
and you are right about point 2, but that problem means the kinect verison will offer better support...hopefully they dont do it a year after

I dont know why this thing does not have a high res camera. As much as it costs i feel MS could have at least added that.
[QUOTE="Anjunaddict"][QUOTE="bowlingotter"] Yeah... but right now the only reason to buy it would be out of hope and speculation that some as-of-yet unannounced game might end up being good? There's a reason why launch games typically have some highly-anticipated titles peppered in there.bowlingotterAnd the Kinect launch lineup doesnt? Lets not forget who kinect is aimed at here. Ill give you a clue, it ain't us. What's the big-sell title, then?
Out of the launch line-up Dance Central is going to be huge. I'm not a dancer and don't consider myself a casual gamer and I bought a new Wii and Just Dance, with the amount me, my girlfriend, our friends have played that it was a worthwhile purchase even though thats the only game I own for the Wii. My girlfriend bought EA Active, but I never play that.
I'm also looking forward to Sonic Free Riders, that looks like a lot of fun to play with friends.
The tech hasn't been downgraded, this is the same resolution camera that was shown at E3. The prototype may have been downgraded but that's about it.

None but if you really want to dance, there's better ways and places to do it than in front of your tv with a camera. Trust me, you'll enjoy the real experience much more if this is what you're into.
It will be less awkward and you'll have more room.
And if you're not into this thing (like me) Kinect just seems like utter trash in it's current state.
Edit: And you'er correct that I don't own a 360 anymore. Owning a PC sort of makes it pointless unless Halo is really important to you.

Move > kinect i guess? Ratchet_Fan8Yeah probably, i thought they were fairly even before this but now Move seems to be slightly better off... although less resolution means better computational performance so it might be slightly quicker and more responsive now.

In which all of this falls apart. So therefore:Kinect < Kinect + accessory = Move
and
Kinect + Accessory doesn't exist
then
Kinect < Move in any case.
I guess I just need to try out Move, I tried out Kinect at the Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree and I was very impressed with it, worked great. The games I played didn't have any noticeable lag and they were just a lot of fun.

No, not really. The added camera makes both equally "innovative". The difference is that the Wii-mote and PS Move aren't nearly as limited, while people look at Kinect and are fooled into thinking it's innovative because they never heard of the Eyetoy and PS Eye.
