Doctored Video IS Kotaku Sabotaging GT5′s Hype, According To Their Past Stories

I'M AN ANGRY STORY

The Lag and Fun of Halo Reach's Invasion Mode

I spent about an hour messing around with Invasion's new gamemodes and while they're quickly becoming my favorites the experience as a whole was marred by some absurdly bad lag issues.Kotaku

Swedish Retailers Spill Project Natal Price, And It's Expensive

Report: Project Natal To Cost Too Much Money

Kotaku has run negative stories on Microsoft also. You know why? Because they run everything they can get their hands on, whether it's valid, true, insightful, relevant, or not.

Incompetence is a lot more likely than conspiracy in this case.

sorry, but that's not how it works in the real world. when you make a claim, you back it up.

now, nowhere in that link does it prove your claim about Uncharted 2.

maybe it wouldn't be so hard next time if you stop making things up

KarateeeChop

Links have been posted in this thread yet you choose to ignore them. Its not my job to go searching through 13 pages because you came late.

i've been around long enough to know when someone who just got busted tells people to go chase imaginary links.

it's fine if you don't want to admit that you made it up.

Around the time of UC2 was the slim launch, which was in the article link on top of pg13 http://www.gamenewser.net/?p=27

Actually watched some of the racing and yeah, still a bumper car fest :(

tumle

Just like Forza there are different settings;)

Dam your internet is good :P. Oh really? there was never one before and how come they never show the mode to stop it being a bumper car fest. Unless you are on about the *hits the wall no damage visable but sends the steering pulling on the right or left* lol Game looks good and the others have just looks a bit to ermm "forgiving" of driver error imo.

Good Day! I am....Brian Crecente. Ahahahahaha! Ahaha! Ahaha! Ah! Hhahahaha!

Kotaku is a blog. That they have little credibility and don't always bother checking facts and sources is implied, so I don't quite understand why there's this big reaction when what everyone suspected was the case, turns out to be the case. The response to such "news" ought to be a resounding shrug.

While price is certainly a relative thing.. saying that a 150 dollar super eyetoy is "expensive" is a lot different than posting an obviously doctored video as proof of something, and then when many show evidence of the edits, saying "take what you will." I mean, the articles you posted are not incompetence or "bias" toward anything. They're barely "negative stories." Why aren't they saying the video is slowed down?

Cows always seem to think there is a conspiracy against their beloved PS3. They always get the most butthurt over these articles. It is one thing to call out Kotaku for messing up but do you really believe they are out to get the Sony or GT5? It is just lazy journalism.

After reading like 7 pages in this thread I think... Kotaku is just doing this for plublicity, the more people that make threads like this, the more people go to their site, the more hits they get and the happier they feal. THEY WANT CONTROVERSY TO GET HITS. And of coarse if they are doing it only for hits they will say some of our readers claim the video COULD have been slowed. Because now more people will visit the site because people are claiming they are bais. Nothing more nothing less. And as people said some of the articles there have okay-good writers it is just that 2 of them just want to bash stuff so they get hits.

This reminds me when CheapyD from the CAG.com site said the PS3 of RDR was inferior to the 360 version and most of the Sony fans jumped on him and stuff and didn't believe him and called him bias and not credible.

Even if the video was slowed down, he load times were long. PS3 fanboys shouldn't be surprised as the PS3 generally suffers from slow loadtimes. The BD drive has slow read times, couple thatwith 25-50gb of data to search and viola, you have slow load times.

I agree 100 percent. I love the site but very often they screw up. The cool thing about them though, is they tend not to have a problem admitting they did. I've seen them screw up on all platforms equally.

All's fair.

I have a video of Nurburgring Nordschleife loading in ~28 seconds, which I don't consider particularly slow.

I like how you say "upset about the deplorable loading times being reported as I am a big GT fan...." in the thread you created, when the video was proven to be slowed down.

I went ahead and skipped the last few pages of... erm... "discussion." No need to call anyone fanboys, especially Ninja-Hippo. He's IMO one of the least biased people here. Anyway, I still think Ashcraft and Plunkett tend to be the ones that have that "Anti-PS3" attitude. Yes, they do say "good" things, but I'm sure its just to cover their butts. Kind of like someone saying, "I love my 360, but Bungie is trash" kind of comments. Anyway, for those thinking I'm any sort of fanboy, or wants to call me one... at least call me a hermit please. Of all things, that's what I use and support the most...

XenogearsMaster said: Seriously, are you that much of a blind fanboy?

Answering if Killzone 3 will sell badly:

I don't see why it would. Even if it's just more of the same, it's more of a good thing. Ninja-Hippo

So let me ask - which fanboy am i exactly? To what console am i supposedly so blindly loyal?

:lol:Well played.

I don't know about bias, the other articles posted seem to indicate a possible bias, but without going to the site and scouring their articles (which I'm not gonna do) nothing is definitive. The thing is, they really should screen a video before posting it, and the sound cutting out half way should have at least led to a second, more scrutinizing viewing.

I mean, how could they not watch it before posting it? Anything could be jammed in the middle of the video, donkeys with midgets or something. But, I can see not recognizing that is in slo-mo, since I didn't really see it until I saw the sped up version, which made it clear.

Kotake is just a Link Blog, Skip the words and just click on the links. They are horrible at all their attempts to be legit and are the most pretentious group of "jouranlists" on the internet.

EDIT: Just to make myslef clear i could care less about the this game or loading times, this is more of a critique of Kotaku as a whole.

Why the hell are people oversensitive about these things so trivial? Woah a negative piece, haven't seen those for the PC, 360 or Wii before. I only have two problems with Kotaku: One being their PC gaming coverage is relatively below average. Two being some of their 'blog pieces' are either terrible, irrelevant and long winded, or really good and insightful.

"Update 2: We asked Sony about the theories that the video has been doctored to show slower load times. A spokesperson told us that no one on the GT5 product team in the U.S. had witnessed load times as slow as the one depicted in the video posted here. Has the video been altered? Was there something up with that build of GT5 that day? Does the game load its tracks that slowly? We can point to this video, cited by readers, of another pre-release version of the game loading the Nurburgring track more quickly. But we cannot confirm this video has been altered."

They've now taken the time to update this twice, and then subsequently remove the last line "But we cannot confirm this video has been altered." (probably because of how easy it is to tell the video has been altered.)

But they haven't found the time to change the title of the story, nor simply pull the misleading story altogether.

So presumably they are just trying to stir **** for hits now. Seriously, it just makes them look dumb.

Slowing down a video to make a game look bad? Why on Earth would a website do this? This is probably the most pathetic thing I have ever seen since I started gaming, Kotaku should be shut down. We all knew they were biased but to stoop this low is unacceptable.

The video had me going till I saw this thread, I feel so stupid, I was moaning to myself all day about it. I'm so glad it's a fake, I love going to Kotaku but agree there being wack for not changing the title or plain out saying the video is docotored. I guess I let the graphics and detail cloud my vision.

Reminds me when everyone was getting excited about NG2, and all N4G could do was point out the excess blood. :|

But long loading times do irritate me.

It bothers me in Forza 3, when you load or restart a race.

Checking the credibility of this random Youtube video they found (or was sent by some random person) is something they should have done before posting a news article about it. If they had any integrity they would've removed it by now. But it nets them hits so no that's not happening. and is why they'll continue with ****ty articles like it. And it's not like it would've been news worth reporting even if it was true.

Kotaku has its uses but should not be relied upon as a news source.

I'm sorry, I don't see the connection between the title, which speaks of anti ps3 bias, and the content of the thread, which speaks only of an article concerning a racing game.
