Play it now and I guarantee you will feel different. LA Noire is one of those titles that should be played after long breaks, only then can one appreciate the dialogue and interrogation system. It's soooo boring.

I still haven't finished it. Haven't played it in months.

The game was awesome until the Arson's desk missions. The game reach a peak with homicides and then went downhill from there. The last desk was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring... I dont give two sh*ts about white collar crimes. They're just so... boring, who the f*ck had that lamest idea? It should get fired (yes, I know Team Bondi no longer exists)
The facial animations kind of fell flat in my opinion. They could have done so much more with it, it was way to easy to see who lied, or had something to hide. The other thing was the side-missions, why create such a big world when there is so little to it. I understand this was a detective-game and not GTA but they could have done more than the repetetive stuff with the bankrobbers.
The facial expressions were cool and advanced but I dont think they pulled off the whole promise of- what the expression is will give the person away or prove their innocence, one will have shifty eyes and be lying while another will have shifty eyes but telling the truth, also when questioning the suspect with the lie option, the character just blantantly flies off the handle and straight out says they are guilty, which is not what should had been portrayed, I was just saying they were lying about my questions, maybe to hide something else, not that they commited the murder.
As you can read, I was ready to throw the game in a fire after a half dozen hours.
The Arson desk definitely felt weak in comparison to the others, the game had some questionable changes in development and most were not for the better like how they handled the placement of the desk cases and the abrupt ending. Though I have to say the DLC case for Arson was a treat, in fact all the DLC cases were interesting and its a shame they cut them out of the disk in order to make more money on the side. The game was awesome until the Arson's desk missions. I had quite a bit of trouble reading peoples faces, I should have doubted instead of the many times I accused them of lying and using evidence that did not support my claim lol. It gets harder and harder the more cases you do. In the beginning I did like 10 cases back to back and I was so burnt out that my interrogation skills suffered. The facial animations kind of fell flat in my opinion. ^thisI was enjoying it until I realised that I was just repeating the same 4 things over and over.
UnrealLegend
It sold millions and was hailed by gamers, while also scoring less then usual for Rockstar.
So I'd say wrong on both counts.

the gameplay consisted of 1)hugging walls 2) asking questions and finding out that the "three choice" system had wild reactions you didn't expect 3)suspect runs- you chase 4) you capture them repeat. yawn repeat yawnIt's soooo boring.

Phuck the haters with a capital "P". I loved the game.
Dont own it anymore, but it was worth the purchase. The rockstare atmosphere and the "noire" theme of the game felt very developed. You can tell the game was baking for a long time. The gameplay was a breath of fresh air. While the action sequences could have had better gameplay (the shooting was terrible), it wasnt even the main premise of the gameplay, and it made up for it anyways in immersion/suspense/tension. The game is thal so severely underrated in its scriptwriting.
Im trying really hard not to sound like a viral marketer right now. I love seeing Rockstar (or any developer) take the "GTA" esque (mission based sandbox) formula, and apply it to underused concepts like Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire. That, and, there arent to many games that take place from a cop's point of view.

I agree with this part right here. Rockstar is so good with the formular that I'm alway keen to see what they'll do with it next. Unfortunately I don't think they nailed it with LA Noire. The first few hours are brilliant; there is literally no other game like it. But eventually I just got tired of wandering around tight rooms looking for objects I can interact with, and punching enemies with the clunky melee combat. (I still loved the car chases though; they were excellent as usual.)
What annoyed me the most though is the interrogations. Every time a produced I strong peice of evidence against a suspect, and the game rejected it for no logical reason, it made me want to toss my PS3 out the window and pee on it.

With gameplay you're over-simplifying it, good fun but I can see it get tiring that's why I advise doing a case every few days to really appreciate what the game has to offer, there's nothing else to compare it to this gen after all.
Its a Team Bondi game though and like I said in the OP it did sell well but gamers who bought it for the most part don't think highly of the game.It sold millions and was hailed by gamers, while also scoring less then usual for Rockstar.

And the characters were so memorable, loved the banter between Cole and his partners when you drive. One conversation Cole made a quip when his partner asked him about the emerging 3D film phenomenon. This game excelled in that including the atmosphere, so good.Swift_Boss_A

Im trying hard as possible to not use reviewer hyperbole, but the cases were so interesting that I couldnt allow myself to continue without getting every case right. Every time I failed a case, I quit, reloaded my save, and started again, just because I had to find out the truth.
I guess I just love things like that. I also love watching shows like Law and Order (mainly Law and Order SVU, Ive watched EVERY episode on neflix/USA network, etc).
The gameplay could have been deeper, and Rockstar admitted this, but this was because ALOT of devs at Team Bondi went on strike and some left. Thats why the game took so long to come out, and why the gameplay wasnt what it could have been. There were rumors about terrible work conditions at team bondi, and developers hated it there/poor relationships between R* and them, which ended in them being shut down. Animators didnt want to work there anymore.
I loved the game and was very disappointed that Team Bondi closed down. Would have liked to see their system work in a different city during a different time period.
The game was as boring as watching The View to me. It's overrated by gamers TC, everyone praises it. The facial technology is very impressive though. So impressive they fire the studio, what a stupid move for making a huge selling game.
the games was sooooooo overrated by critics, makes me question all of 'em. 9s and 10s everywhere, the game is a 7.5 at best. the repetitiveness really wears on you after the first few hours, it was really a chore to finish. there were glimpses of greatness in it though, and fun.
repetitiviness plagues EVERY game. It just depends if that repetativiness is FUN. But in your case it wasn't. The game is simply NOT for everyone. A lot of the praised came from effort of realism added to the game, a crime detective, set in the past..it was so well made, expecially the mission/story. It has depth and immersion. one obviously needs to have great interest in the type of game to have you last the experience. I enjoyed the game immensely, but can recognize its flaws. One thing is for sure: it's not for the attention deficit gamer that craves high action above all else. LA Noire shouldn't be marathoned. I approached it like a TV show. Each desk is a season, each case is an episode.

The critics definitely created unrealistic expectations that's for sure. How so? the game is pretty much in a league of it's own, not to mention rock stars somewhat involvement. i guess you're right about the repetitiveness, it's just i REALLY wanted to like this game. the concept, the atmosphere, the era it was set in all leaded me to believe i would adore l.a. noire, but the final product just let me down.
well made? i have to disagree. the little bit of shooting there was in this game was done horribly, the mechanics are awful. same with the cars, driving around the city leaves much to be desired. slow paced? boy is that the understatement of the year, more like sloth paced. that's another issue with the game, pacing. but like i said, i did find enjoyment in some parts of the game, some cases were clearly better than others and i still look forward to a sequel as long as they fix some of the many issues from the first. hopefully rockstar can handle the sequel from the very beginning this time.

Totally agree with you about the gameplay mechanics, way to heavy and unrealistic, it didn't feel right. I was mainly talking about the investigation and interigations, etc..due to the facial animations. I loved the atmoshpere and settings, expecially the characters and personalities. Overall, gunplay-wise it could've had been done better, luckily it wasn't the main focus. The best games know how to change up what you do, how you do it, or at least trick the gamer into not noticing they're doing the same thing over and over. Or better yet, if you're going to be so repetitive then make the game shorter.the games was sooooooo overrated by critics, makes me question all of 'em. 9s and 10s everywhere, the game is a 7.5 at best. the repetitiveness really wears on you after the first few hours, it was really a chore to finish. there were glimpses of greatness in it though, and fun.

This is what i ask of gamers who hate LA Noire. Show me a video game that made you feel more like a old school gumshoe? You can't. LA Noire was great at what it was to trying to do.
But it forgot that it was a game whose primary purpose is to provide entertainment to its audience by being played. All it did was showing how boring and unsophisticated 50's police work in LA was to the players. This is what i ask of gamers who hate LA Noire. Call me weird, but I thought it was the complete opposite.
Arson (particularly the Kelso sections) were definitely the best part of the game, and the parts where the noir atmosphere shines through the strongest. It also finally dragged together all of the plot points that the game had previously been establishing, creating a good overarching story that made the first half of the game feel like completely pointless filler.
Meanwhile, the Homicide desk was the low-point of the game; one boring murder after another, all with the same MO and evidence. It was tedious as hell to play through.

Agreed with the last part, but Discworld Noir was a much better 'old-school gumshoe' game, imo, even with the comedic fantasy setting.
The game had this brilliant clue system where you could gather three different kinds of evidence - tangible clues (scraps of paper, weapons, etc), intangible ones (names, theories, rumours, etc), and a third spoilery one, and you could mix and match them to make logical deductions, or bring up any of them in conversations with anyone you meet. I'm disappointed that nobody ever followed that up with a similar concept.
