[QUOTE="chazasul"][QUOTE="Fawlcon_Pawnch"][QUOTE="W1NGMAN-"]People hating on LBP? I didn't think that was even possible :oFawlcon_Pawnch
Hating? Not really
Not interested? YES
It doesnt look good as a platform game, specially gameplay-wise
Have you seen any of the actual levels? They're not quick mess around things like the ones you see here, they're much more intricate. I think the game looks very fun on it's own without the creative aspect. Some of the levels created at Parson's LBP Game Jam are easily of the standard of a decent platformer.
Yes, i'v seen many levels, the gameplay is floaty, slow and looks imprecise. The game is very cute and funny to look at, the phisics also look impressive, but i dont see myself wanting to play it again and again like Mario games.
When compared to a platformer like SMG, LBP seems very...poor.
Its biggest draw is to create levels and play them once or twice, if the gameplay doesnt have that razor sharp preciseness and variety seen in the best platforms it wont be a game to be played for years and years like the best platformers are
Well I think it looks like it handles fantastically and it's perfect for gameplay that involves timing and precision. So it's just a case of opinion rather than an actual flaw of the game.
Comparing the controls to SMG is funny too with the whole "waggle to spin" mechanism. The controls are far from perfect. I understand what you're saying by LBP being floaty but it's just different, not necessarily bad. It certainly doesn't look imprecise.
Oh, and the "play them once or twice" thing is just silly. How many platformers have you played where you have revisisted the levels over and over? You play through the game and most of time, that's it. If you liked it a lot then you might play through it again. Again, SMG is an interesting comparison as most players, myself included, just played and earnt the star in the world and never went back to that stage. Only the more dedicated player will actually think "Oh hey, that level was fun. I think I'll get that star again for giggles". So yeah, playing a level once or twice sounds about right to me.
EDIT: Oh, and people will be playing this for years and years because not only will amazing levels emerge from new talent, the game will have new tools and materials coming in the form of patches. What platformers have you been playing for "years and years" anyway? I don't care how good a game is, unless you're actually getting new content like LBP then it's not going to last me years because it's just the same game over and over again.
