Lems are putting way, way too much stock in Titanfall

I don't think you guys understand the level of disappointment and ridicule you are going to experience here in a few short months when Titanfall, a MP only game that is being made for the X1, PC and 360 will come out and like a lot of games wont live up to the mountain of hype you are all putting on it. This is not some genre bending new concept we are talking about here. Respawn, the dev behind Titanfall is a bunch of ex-Infinity Ward people who are trying to carve a niche in the already over crowded FPS category.

We have all seen the footage of TF and I think we can all agree at its core, TF is a CoD knock off with mech's that are brought in by a similar system to a CoD Killstreak and guys wearing jetpacks that allow for high jumps and wall running. Its not like a Mech game where you can choose to be on foot or run around in a mech. They are brought in because you completed an objective or got a Killstreak of sorts. You have them for a bit and then they are gone again like a CoD Killstreak! There just aren't mech lying around the maps. Its not like BF4 where you have tanks, heli's and whatnot!

So when Titanfall gets released at it gets a 6 or 7 score here at GS and it will as BF4 and CoD Ghosts each got an 8, I don't don't want to hear any excuses because you Xbots are making TF out to be the Next Halo or CoD 4 or BF3 and it simply is not.

The thing is that Titan Fall will sell, and in massive numbers just based on the hype. Whether it's actually going to be a good game remains to be seen. Not really my bag but I can see the appeal for sci-fi/shooter fans.

Well they put a lot of hype into the cloud, the X1, & now Titan Fall. The first 2 have been worse than expected so if Titan Fall is also worse than expected, at least they'll be consistent.

Well you can call it a cod knockoff if you like, can't say I agree. But then you could call every fps a cod knockoff if you wanted....just because it's made by Infinity Ward people of the past does not mean it's going to be cod.

At least they are trying to do something a little different....imo anyway, I don't think I have ever seen anything like Titanfall.

Maybe it will be the best fps ever made, maybe not but I'll wait until it's out.

Have you guys looked at the gameplay footage? It looks absolutely phenomenal. It's one of the few "next gen" games that actually look next gen.

You do know that Respawn are the COD guys from COD1, COD2, and COD4, ya know, the insanely awesome genre defining CODs, before it was rehashed into the ground?

Just like Cows put too much stock into Killzone Shadow Fall. But that was quickly forgotten once the reviews came out. And lets not forget all the praise Titanfall got at E3 by every journalist. I mean it pretty much won every award. But if shooters aren't your thing then the game probably won't do anything for you.

When I first saw titanfall I wasnt really impressed. But with the gaming media absolutely gushing over it, it has got me excited that its going to be more than generic shooter #9442.

Combined with COD and BF franchise fatigue being at an all time high, titanfall is in a good position to capture the FPS market if it delivers on the hype it has been receiving.

And frankly at this point, anything that has a good chance of ripping my friends away from COD gets me excited.

Doubtful. Titanfall has a few things going against it.

1. A $60 multiplayer only game has never sold well.

2. Spring Release

3. Next gen consoles don't yet have a large enough install base to see any kind of significant sales.

They are making a huge mistake releasing in March and by the time it could make good sales numbers, it will be an old title, overshadowed by Destiny, a Treyarch COD and whatever holiday AAA's Microsoft has in the works for 2014.

Sad when a mulit plat does it.

I agree that Destiny looks leaps and bounds better than Titanfall. I just think the hype train will have enough steam to take it over the line. Remember that Respawn haven't had to work on a time consuming/expensive single player campaign so production costs will be much lower than your average shooter.

It's literally the only thing they've got left to hold on to, they have the inferior machine this time around so of course they'll hype it. lol. The melt downs when you see a lem trying to nurse the bruise to their balls when people confidently say they don't need to buy an XB1 to play it, you can tell in their responses that it's personally hurt their feelings.

I hate mech games. I am in no way looking forward to TitanMech.

My expectations would have been tempered if the hype was created in some viral way, or showing 20 second snippets like Drive Club, or if it were relying on its history like CoD does. But all of Titanfalls hype comes from gaming journalists and the game of show award at every show it played at, or the longest lines of any game at that show to play it. The hype is generated by gamers and not advertising. And the developers know how to deliver a huge game with huge expectations that people will be playing even a year later. I am as hyped for this as Halo 5 and I think it will absolutely deliver. Hearing people who have played it at length rave about it from every gaming site.

And what I would like to know is how much of the lemmings hype doesn't go beyond the fact that its not currently on playstation? Just look at how the lemmings don't make a peep about Destiny even though its made by the developer that put them on the map. If Titanfall was multiplatform, most of you wouldn't even be talking about it. You guys would certainly be calling it trash though had it been a playstation exclusive instead.

No, it's just created by the Activision expatriates who were responsible for one of the largest franchises all of last gen responsible, who after their debut of Modern Warfare made the biggest contribution to COD hitting 150 million for the gen.

Wikipedia (for Titanfall) - "The game won over 60 awards at its E3 2013 reveal, including a record-breaking six E3 Critics Awards, and Best of Show from several media outlets. It also won official awards at Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show.".

Seems like more than just your average lems are stoked for this.

Titanfall will do well but any advantage the Xbone has will be cannibalised by the PC and 360.

Ground Zeroes will shift more next-gen consoles because it actually looks like a next-gen game.

I can't be bothered to read the rest, whenever I hear that, you lose all credibility. Majority of the big PC games are MP only.... welcome to 2013/2014.... where gameplay and multiplayer are more important.

TC sounds intimidated

Mainstream games can be as amazing as indie games suck and vice versa. A game is a game is a game and however it came to be has no bearing on if it its good. And yes, even if everyone around you tells you its good it still may not be good to you once you play it. But having read the previews and having watched all the footage I'm all in in terms of wanting to play the hell out of this game. One of my fav games last gen was Earth Defense Force and it had a terrible frame rate, pop-in everywhere, slowdown, bad story, terrible voice acting, and the main character controlled with the fluidity of a brick. But the game was fun as hell and addicting and had a atmosphere of a B- movie. It didn't have any TV commercials or real advertising. The point is no matter if its hyped or not the game will be whatever you think it is. Titanfall looks amazing and fun and just grand.

I'm not hyped for Titanfall cause it isn't on PS4. I'm hyped for Uncharted and I don't even own a PS4. Im hyped for Mass Effect and I know its multiplatform and will likely run at a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One. But its a great dev behind what I think is a great franchise. You can't get so caught up in all this lemming cow sheep shit that you forget we're all gamers.

As for Destiny, as a Xbox gamer to see Bungie hype their game, focus their advertising, and give exclusive content to the PS4 when they made their name and acclaim off of us does sting and give a unfair opinion of Destiny to me. I'll admit that. But despite that I can't take away from Bungie's talent and its their right to do anything they want with this new IP. But seeing them show everything for PS4 while simply saying the game will be out on the One as well doesn't sit well with me cause they never made a single dollar off of Sony in the last decade. That does skew my opinion a bit.

Nope. First quarter of new year with a system seller, end of the year with a system seller. Titanfall and Halo 5 book end the year for Xbox One. Its damn smart IMHO

Titanfall

Alot of big games that miss the holiday window get pushed back to Q1. Without an installed fanbase they probably didnt wanna released a turd of a port for the new hardware like BF and COD. But they probably still want to strike while the iron is hot and next gen buyers are gobbling up new software and are very receptive to new IPs.

But really, criticizing the launch date? Rockstar has many of the biggest releases is history, and they never target the holiday window anymore. The holiday window has largely lost its importance as games are no longer viewed as toys for children. Especially games targeting a mature audience.

@shawn30: Titanfall isn't a system seller though. I'm buying it on the 360. Further more, march through august see lower sales than December alone and the final quarter does better than the whole year put together. Who in the **** wants to play Titanfall when Spring will be here and summer is around the corner? Most people have better things to do that time of year and rock bottom game sales show that.
