[QUOTE="archvile_78"]

[QUOTE="lightleggy"] is not cheap at all...its great because the developers manage to read what your reaction will be when you see the monster...I take for granted you havent played amnesia or have not even seen it...if thats the case you cant discuss about this game...not until you try it and realize there is nothing cheap about the scares in amnesia...that part which I described there specially blows up your gutslightleggy

I'm not calling every scare in amnesia "cheap" im calling this particular one cheap, you probably didn't played lots of horror games because this whole "turn around, something pop in your face to surprise you" have been done oftentimes. Don't get me wrong i saw a gameplay video on youtube uploaded by the game company themselve and i won't deny, the game is extremely atmospheric from what i've witnessed.

Of course the experience varies from players to players, to me this particular moment you had was just a cheap attempt at "scaring" the player.

I have actually played quite a few "horror" games I call them "horror" because I rarely gets scared...that particular scare in amnesia is not a cheap one because..,you see the monster walking at the far end of the hallway, and from what it looks like ,the monster doesnt see you...you wont get this if you dont play the game but everytime you have a monster nearby your heart just stops...and in this part, the monsters runs from side to side really fast so you can actually only see a blurry figure running...so you open the door at your left, its a cell door (the doors in amnesia are opened 100% manually...you may leave a door half open or at any angle you want) and you enter the cell, the cell only has 1 way to enter and thats the door you just used, so when you enter the cell its completly empty and you say "phew..." and close the door...when you look back, the monster somehow got inside the cell and now you are trapped in a room with the monster...you get extremely tense and your heart pumps really fast...seriously you wont understand if you dont play the game

Ahhh now thats better explained. See, when i quoted you first, i thought you meant you turned around and blam, the monster appeared in front of your face like in pretty much every single damn "horror" movies these days.

So basically its a simple misreading error by myself, i apologize.

If you're scared by a game, you've never faced danger in real life.

This post doesn't make sense. :| I've had a gun pointed at me and I get scared by games.

Actually

"However, that doesn't mean that Frictional doesn't have aspirations to bring Amnesia to consoles. The studio is currently working out a deal with a third-party to port the title to consoles, though no other information on the effort was disclosed."

From this link. Of course if im to experience the game it will give me a good reason to upgrade my gfx card and memory.

I was really getting into the game until I got to a point where I had to put 3 type of rods into something and I only had 1. It's only about 2 hours into the game, and I swear I searched every corner I could and I still could't find even 1 more. So I just gave up.

oh...im actually afraid for FG...they are indie developers and they said that they sold 200k amnesia units (which is great for an indie dev) but that it barely covered the cost of making the game, but that they were still in a great finantial situation. if they develop for ps3 (which is extremely expensive) and the game fail at sales chart, it will be hard blow for them

lol thats one of the easiest part of the game...you should have found 2 rods in one area...cant remember which...it was the one where you had to fill up a small glass with an explosive substance to blow some debris and the third rod is in the studio...an area blocked by debris...just before that area theres a broken window, you go through the window, do some platforming and tah-dah you are at the other side of the studio

I remember the first time I played Silent Hill 1 on PS1. I was pretty young and there is this one part where u cross a closed locker that shaking...that part freaked me out lol. I would really love to play Amnesia. A friend of mine offered me to play his pirated copy but after i read the story about the devs going to torrent websites and asking people to buy their game, I was like "nah man...for shame...."

I'm about 3/4 through the game and so far only one part had me on edge.

***SPOILER***

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Soon after you reactivate the elevator and you encounter the two monsters. There's no way you cant sneak by them and your forced to run past them while they chase you down. It's hard not to look back when your so close to being killed. But the prison area did have it's moments too. The game is very atmospheric but the scares are limited at this point.

Isn't scary. I mean it is unsettling in areas, but I was not scared in the least bit while playing that or any of the other SH games.

Thank you, finally someone who agrees about SH not being scary.

I agree, then again I never found any horror title to be scary (outside of Fatal Frame 2 to some extent)

I disagree. Even though its the scariest thing I've ever played/seen/heard/ect, nothing makes me crawl up in the feetle position and cry for mommy than needles.

I hate needles and dread getting shots. You can only take getting shots in your nerves so much.

I wouldn't say scariest 'ever'; my issue lies in the setting; A medieval castle is too far removed to be a rateable setting for horror (even if it is removed enough to put you on edge). Personally I'm really hoping the new Tomb Raider game hits the spot .

I want more games that go from a gradual change of normal to screwed up.

Call of the Cthulhu kind of got it at the beginning.

You enter a town looking for someone and the people seem to be unfriendly and weird but nothing too out of the ordinary.

You experience events that slowly convince you something is not right.

But they may have went a little too fast by jumping right to the hotel chase scene.

The later parts of the game were not as good mainly because it becomes another shooter.

.

I want a game where you feel right at home with.

Like the main character having a normal life in some small village and experiencing strange things going on like missing people.

Atmosphere is one of the most important things in survival horror games and connecting with the player is very important.

.

I always thought the second Jeepers Creepers movie would make a good online multiplayer survival horror game.

You have to work in a group to survive against the bat monster thing.

.

The first Jeepers Creepers had a good creepy setting with the country town too.

The location in the game is important because the atmosphere is better when the setting is convincing.

Minor details are important.

The creaking of the floor, the squeaking sound of a unhinged metal sign or the sound of the wind.

Can't get any more than "Absolutely f***ing scary." Let the game actually immerse you and its by far the scariest game out there. Of course this is all opinion but if you don't let games like this "immerse" you, then the true feeling of the game is never established.

I always play those kind of games in the right conditions(in the dark, with headphones and alone),PZ games have some unsettling moments but to be honest, the scariest parts of those games were the terrible controls they have and the way the fixed cameras is used to give you cheap scares. :P

But don´t get me wrong,I like them,I just don´t find them very scary.

I'm agree, this game has such and incredible atmosphere, it was damn impressive for it's time, scarier than Amensia, maybe not, but i don't think it's a fair comparision.

Anyway, i have to admit, i'm a little intimidated by Amnesia, if i ever buy it, i think i may not play it at all, it truly seems scary.

It's still impressive even in these times. SH3's atmosphere, sounds, graphics, environments, etc all hold up well by today's standards in my opinion. What an amazing ****ing game that was. WAY a head of it's time.

Yes. But I am simple minded, so yeah. Personally if this was me, I woulda grabbed my EVO and hoped for coverage, but I would since I have Verizon's PRL and VErizon has coverage everywhere. Unless I am not in the US in which case I am screwddddd. Oh and I did bring my EVO to like the 18th or 19th or whenever this game takes place.

Personally this game needs more tactical nukes, airstrikes, and super fast running with care packages.

SH3 is a good game, but not scary at all. I've played all Silent Hill games, alone, lights off, and meh, Only thing that really scared me in SH games was that damn cat jumping out of the cupboard. And it's only because the game had no jumpscares before then. Amnesia almost made me cry out of fear.

Demon soul's was pretty scary at times. Things jumping out of dark corners. Knowing that a few hits could kill you at any moment. If you feel vulnerable than you are more likely to feel scared. The scariest game ever made would never allow you to come back to life. One death and the game is over and you can never play it again. Now THAT would make it scary knowing that death would be the end of your game.

I disagree...

I think Amnesia is a scary game, but it didn't scare me as much as Silent Hill 3. The manikin scene made me truly frightened to play that game

Tried the demo some time ago....I am definitely not getting this game.

I think the 200k sales (when it could possibly be more) is because its damn too scary.

yeah its obviously more by now they said that they were selling like 200 units per day so they are selling pretty good

Man...the demo isn't even scary >_>

I was actually wondering if the game was a good buy after playing the demo. The final game is much more scary and unsettling.

Another thing about Amnesia is: it looks like a game where unless I'm told to do things I would never know I could. Like in a video the guy moves a table in front of the door and hides in a closet. I'm afriad that I wouldn't know you could do certain things and would die. I hate games where it's like real life b/c I always find stuff that you can't do, and then I get confused. I never really know what you can't or can do in games like that.

You figure these things out when you get scared in the game :P Your natural instincts kick in

I left this comment on the Amnesia page on Steam: "If you don't own it - get it. Amnesia had me breathing heavily and sometimes shouting in suprise and fear. As someone who's been playing horror games for years and years, I can say with full confidence that this is the most terrifying piece of media available." I still stand by that.

you can also hit enemies with shovels and stuff like that, it stuns them for like 3 seconds, enough to run. also when you are running you can throw things like barrels while running to block the monster's path
