Its essentially implying an alter world (related to their slogan) where everyone can find something that caters to their needs. Granted, its an acid trip way of getting there, but it works.

pretty much, is an extremly clever ad, and its obvious that they went after the more mature and educatad audience, but whats the point? i dont see that ad helping their sales in anyway only a few people will get it, and those who do iam not so sure they would be intrested on getting a ps3, (sony is probly going to get some kind of award for these ad's tho)

I personally (and this isn't due to a console prefrence) think that the best ads are the 360 ones. They usually just show the damn game and some logos, thats what I want. Though I think I remember the launch ads being kind of dumb too. Nintendos ads are too wierd and a little stupid, Sonys ads are creepy and just too much, theyre trying too hard to stand out. 

This is a commercial?  If so, it failed on so many levels that I'm surprised it even made it on the air.  People easily tune out during commercials and this does nothing to capture anyone's attention.  To make matters worse the viewer isn't even aware of what's being advertised till the very end of the commercial.  Most people would simply flipped by before this thing was up.

The point of a commercial is to communicate some message to the viewer...usually about some attribute or benefit of the product.  This doesn't do anything.

it would clearly never be run in its entirety (its at least 3 minutes long). They could trim it down into a very very cool concept, we'd still face the issues mentioned before by me and others in terms of it being over peoples heads, but this is just an uncut version with a lot of excess if it was ever aired.Malvo

Anyone watching that would think they are watching a clip from a movie.  I don't see how this has anything to do with the PS3, or how any consumer is suppose to make the connection to the PS3 from anything in that clip.  Commercials are suppose to be relevant to the product in some way.  Commercials are suppose to convince the consumer to try out the product being advertised.  Commercials are not suppose to debate how mundane life may or may not be.

this second ad is even worst then the first, i meant its great and all, as slick said its a great movie trailer id like to watch that movie =p, but if i didnt knew it was a videogame comercial id never make the connection, explain to me how somone can tell its about the ps3 if he had no previous knowlodge of it? i managed to get the first one, but i knew that was about before i saw it, this one even knowing what it is about i cant really say its a ps3 ad.

Ninty and MS are showing the world they have games to play through their ads, while majority of Sony's ads are stuck in its artsy, symbolic, nothing to do with games campaign....

I refered to americans because most people on this board are american, and most of the people bashing the add are americans and where did I say stop doing what your doing and watch us? I´m just trying to say keep an open mind when talking about things that don´t apply only to america, the world is big, lot´s of diferent metalities.

If you don´t understand the add then yes you are a liitle uneducated, it´s pretty clear the message they are sending out, remember the "Live in your world play in ours" ad? this is usuing the exact same method, just because everything isn´t drawn out in front of you doesn´t make it a bad ad, I found it to be one of the most impressive ads from a gaming company ever. Yay for simple minded ppl who would prefer something like "The ps3 plays games and has a blu ray player and yadayadayda" I thought this was much more unique and got the message across just as much, it is a fantasy world it isn´t real, just like the games we play, the ad was one friggen big game. I though it was very well done. And keep in mind it wasn´t meant for america, europe has a very diferent mentality, I live in portugal, I used to live in Canada I know what I´m talking about.

that video represents not sony's ps3 owners but system wars cows, i mean it was just weird, guys who want to be female models and guys who *** with a football game, no god no, if that's living than i want to die and anyone who says that's living they should go see a psychiatric, the only good thing about the video was the blond chick but if you want to see blond chicks you just have to google it, watch *** or if you look atleast decent you may get to know some blond chicks in real life.
I bet that sony's next add will show someone sacrificing babies and animals, then for the great finale they will show a bunch of travesties kissing each other and finally it will appear "ps3, that's living".

Oh I understood the idea behind the story/ad/commercial but it did not work.  It failed to sell the hardware. The concept disconnected with the viewer trying to figure out what the point was and the pay-off at the end was not enough. So the ad fails, the ad agency fails, Sony fails and your assumption that American cannot understand creative methods because they cannot think outside of their own universe fails.

Sony is so totally awsome ...
