Wii = the crappy US sitcom of video games. I can't stand watching the crappy sitcomes on TV any more than I can stand to play the Wii.Timstuff
I'd take it a step further and say that Wii is the Reality TV of videogames. It's cheap to make and people go nuts for it, but it could lead to the downfall of the medium as we know it.
Yeah, 'cause reality TV completely destroyed great shows like Heroes, Lost, The Shield, 24, The Daily Show, South Park, Family Guy, and The Colbert Report. It's just too bad those shows got replaced with reailty show crap.
...God you're naive.

it destroy mtv,and g4tv somewhat.. everytime i go on either of does either i see cops, cheaters or something. mtv i stop watching 2 years ago and it was bad back then, i bet you it haven't change.with video games it relates in the sence that their moving backward, they willl be more games for non gamers than their is for hardcore. some of our favorite games will be dumb down to please a wider audience and some of our favorite games the wii with its limited capabilities compare to 360 and ps3 hold them back.

So you're saying that, because non-gamers are a new and hot commodity, that hardcore gamers are going to get absolutely nothing?
Yeah, 'cause that's what happened in every other entertainment industry, right? There are no more action movies coming out, right? There are no more noir novels coming out, right? Rap, Rock, and hell, even country all died out because pop music is now popular, right?
Like I said: naive.
Grandma Sue and Little Cousin Ivan is playing Wii. Great. These margins only buy 3-4 games a year if that. A hardcore buys 10-15-20 games a year.
This is what I'm afraid of. The casuals are stealing and sapping energy from the main source, us.NECR0CHILD313
Interesting, then name me a game that only Hardcore like that become multiplatinum.
Exactly.
Metroid Prime. that cam is not casual friendly at all and I think it sold 2 mil.
all im gonna say is just imagine zelda looking like metal gear 4 graphics, mario galaxy with viva pinata graphics or just imagine metroid with Near Crisys graphics. This argument is ridiculous
No matter how many games are made for how many people, there will ALWAYS be games for the "hardcore" ones among you to put your insecurity at rest
Stop complaining that its going to destroy the industry, because it isnt. Was the supply of hardcore games suddenly dropped when the DS came out? No.
You make it sound like your being neglected, and in the next forum youll go on about how Haze/GOW/Halo 3 is going to be uber awesome? Pathetic.

two of the franchise wii got that i would love to see in high quality is nights and rygar. this is what i mean.
delevopers look at the wii and they take a step backwards in technology and wasting resource and time to make games to please moms and fathers.
Can't you people get this through your head. Nintendo was the leader in power fo the last two gens. Look where that got them.
You grafix whores are the worst. Nintendo put the last two generations amazing sistems in the grafix department for you; the N64 was the best in his generation for almost the same diference that the PS3 have now whith the WII and the gamecube give you almost the same visuals that the XBOX for less money than the PS2, and you guys dont buy the consoles. Now Nintendo said: "f$% this guys, we give them the best we can and still they dont buy our machines, we got to try somthing new, lets try the WII". And now you are crying because there is not Zelda and Metroid in HD this gen!!!, shessh is not nintendo`s fault.
Now cry all you want. Because i gonna be happy playing my WII, knowing that the gap in gameplay is gonna be bigger whith the Gamecube and the WII than whith the gamecube and the PS3.
How is a game more fun with better graphics? I mean if you go and play Ocarina of Time is it bad because of the graphic? When I play game I don't really care about how the game looks, when I played RE4 I thought graphics were good but as I played the game I didn't give a damn about graphic, all I wanted to was go and kill some villager. When I play Oblivion graphics were reallygood but the gameplay was really dull so I didn't play after while, then I played Zelda for the Wii and it was way better than Oblivion and the graphic wasn't really good compare to Oblivion.
Lol this is why i love system wars. /cry /cry /cry. Like i have said before casual games have always been around. 50 cent bullet proof anyone? or the countless madden games? these sell by the truck load but that doesnt stop developers from making beyond good and evil or okami
I wonder how graphic whores could stand playing on their "last-gen" consoles. It seems every game has to have HD or it's crap. And it's not like the games look bad at all, Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption are beautiful, despite the lack of HD.
I guess some people need to grow up. :/

hysterical ppl don't seem to see that there's room even in the market for many genres just like there is in other forms of entertainment. in fact if all game devs created the same type of game they would lose money because there would be too much competition for the same group of ppl. only of few kings of the genre will come out making a lot of money.
Which is why I will NOT be buying a Wii over a PS3.
PS3 and the 360 are in this game for the long run, while Nintendo is trying to sell off their system and games to people who don't know the first thing about videogames. Lure the consumer in with a gimmicky concept and low-budget titles, they won't know the difference between "Next-Gen" and "New-Gen".
wavebrid
its current gen, and if you want to blame someone blame sony. accodring to the cows, sony brought non gamers into the market.
No, don't even try that. Nintendo is bringing in completely new audiences; females, older people, people that just don't know crap about gaming and are reeled in by the concept of the controller with games.Sony did indeed bring in a new audience, but it's not the one you said. Still, they kept their priorities straight. PS2 had plenty of games that appealed to both casuals and hardcore gamers alike, no denying that. The same seems to hold true to PS3. Everyday we hear about announcements of heavy-hitters and previews of killer-apps; those big guns are going to PS3/360/PC, not the Wii.
Ok, what exact franchises has the Wii killed? Turn your attention away from what you consider casual games, name me 5 known hardcore franchises that the Wii destroyed? Simple as that.
I could name you quite a few games that have hardcore appeal on the Wii, I could also name some that do not. But somehow for whatever reason, just because the Wii is now reaching for other markets, it again somehow makes it the law for some of you people.
That's what people said about 2d gaming, platforming, etc when Sony introduced a new style of gaming to the masses. Where are those games today? This argument is ridiculous. So matter how many games are made for how many people, there will ALWAYS be games for the "hardcore" ones among you to put your insecurity at rest.

The fact is that if the Wii wins, developers will make a lot less of the real games, because the minigame stuff will make them a lot of money. The gaming we currently enjoy will die in comparison of the mass market trend. Unfortunately this time it will mean substituting deep meaningful experiences for shaking some Japanese clown's backside in time to polka music.

Uh if you actually count the number of "mini-game" games on the Wii compared to the number not you'd see that compared to other genres.. it's on the lower end. Since when has one genre of game defined a console? ever? Name me one genre of game that could better show off the remotes capabilities..we are coming to the tail end of the intial "this is how it works" phase. Better and deeper games are coming.. so stop being so negative, its getting oldWhat genre has the Wii strengthened? There are still higher scoring FPS, RPG, racing, sports, action, etc on other systems. The onyl thing the Wii seems to have a handle on is mini-games, but even those don't score so high.
I dont see how the Wii is revolutionary for gaming, nor do I see how bringing in a flood of inexperienced casuals will benefit our favorite genres. Look at how SSX Blur and Sims Wii is sort of "casualized" If that's the sign of things to come, oh great [/sarcasm]
umm since when does everything have to be catered to you? what has the ps3 or 360 revolutionized? graphics??? yeah no thanks.... i dont need to count how many hairs are on markus's head..... give me a new way to play games over graphics anyday
MaxxNight
I dont need to point my hand into the air to feel excitement and fun either. Gamecube and SNES anyone? Nintendo Wii has not revolutionzed "fun" or "gameplay" like so many think.

When I think of Zelda with Oblivion quality visuals, and Metroid with Gears of War quality visuals, it makes me want to cry. So much potential within these series, and Nintendo is holding them back. :(
I would also hate to see companies like microsoft holding gaming back, while companies like nintendo are actually trying to move things forward ny trying to make gaming more like real life. The bridge in graphics isn't as big as itused to be.
That don't mean go back in time with graphics. Hope you have fun playing Wii 3 with its Super Nintendo graphics in a few decades.
You act as though 99% of the games aren't made with the intention to sell to casuals. You try to label them as "hardcore" because you enjoy them, but chances are if it's selling well it's casual. You could maybe get away with sleeper hits being "hardcore", but I doubt the developer's focus was to create a game that only sold to the "hardcore" gamers.
You act as though developers trying to cash in on the latest gaming trend is a new thing. Look at the slew of crappy RTS games that came out shortly after C&C and WarCraft II. Look at how many copycat versions of GTA came out after it became a hit. And, despite these developers that follow trends there have been many great games released. Who really cares if some developer that tends to release subpar games decides to try to cash in on the "new gamer" crowd?
You elitists and not wanting the "casuals" and "non-gamers" in your club are pathetic. You don't even make up the majority of the gaming market, and you want to dictate who should be allowed to join your club or what games should be able to be developed. The industry needs money to survive. The more money developers have the more freedom they have to make games.
