Lost Odyssey is so corny.

So much for those people who say it's underrated. It's really hard to watch the cutscenes without just cracking up laughing at the awfulness of the writing. It's just like "mummy ! I miss you" " shut up little boy, your mum is dead, which means she is not alive, so she can't be dead because she isn't alive because she is dead and not alive. " PARADOX !!

It certainly has its corny, sometimes cringe worthy moments, but for a jrpg its not that bad at all. The best bits of story definitely come through the dreams, not the in game cutscenes.

just got it through goozex, i need a good jrpg fix.

There are some incredibly cheesy moments in LO. But look past that and it's a real good game.

If only that were its biggest problem; I HATED this game and I traditionally have liked JRPGs. The story was boring, the fighting system was lame, I just really didn't like this game.

I also like Resonance of Fate. The combat was hard to get, but once you got it, it was a blast to play, and also a blast to watch.

I'm almost at the end of Disc 2 of LO. One of my favorites. And when "mummy" died it was probably the closest I ever got to crying in a game.

Thats most video game stories in general. Jrpgs do tend to be among the worst offenders though, right there under western action games and shooters.

The dream sequences in Lost Odyssey are a good deal better than what passes for story in most games though.

I agree that the game becomes repetitive battle-wise, but only if you're doing the same stuff over and over.

Using the same characters over and over.

The dialogue and story were pretty cliche. But, that happens in a lot of JRPG's. They haven't exactly been the front runners in innovation this gen.

Corny? You could say that with just about every JRPG's or Japanese-developed games. Some where in the writing department, words are lost in translation. It's going to happen no matter what. It's hard for Japanese developers to relate to Westerners as it is.. when it comes to design, and especially the writing/script. And it's going to go on for many, many years. I'm fine with it. Only people that could appreciate Japanese humor and personality will understand that.

Bottom-line. Lost Odyssey is still the best JRPG I've played in the past 5 years.

No really, LO just takes the cake when it comes to cheesiness. There is a multitude of cutscenes like this one in LO.
