There is no such thing as a FF killer. The franchise is tyoo large. I am 30% hermit, 30% lemming, 30% cow (ps2 only) and 10 sheep. I have never played a FF game, and probably never will. I could not care less.

Agreed nothing is going to be a FF killer. I think Lost Odyssey will do well however.

Actually, FFXII is my favorite in the franchise, but the hardcore FF fans were not very pleased with it.

You mean "some of" the hardcore fans. Like I said they can't please everyone. FFXII changed a lot, but any "hardcore fan" of the series should understand by nowthat FF titles change, that's a fundamental concept of the franchise.

If Square (SE) didn't change the FF titles you would hear how much a "rehash" the games are, but in the exact same instance if Square (SE) change too much than you hear people complain about it being a big departure. They'll always be damned by some portion.

I didn't see anyone saying "rehash" when FFX came out. It wasn't just the gambit combat and gameplay fans didn't like, it was the story aswell, the hole plot was just so damn uninresting and the enviroments so dull. :| you couldn't care less about the characters, I mean if Ashe or Penelo died who would give a **** I gave a damn when Aeris died cause she was actually a good character. Vaan and Penelo where just totally pointless characters and maybe that b itch with the rabbit ears.

Also, there are many people who would agree with the statement that "FF killed itself". If you took the brand name away from FF, people wouldn't be nearly as fanatical about the later FF games. Not trying to take away anything from Final Fantasy, but nowadays there are TONS of quality RPGs on the market, and yet everyone still looks at each successive Final Fantasy as if it is (or will be) far and away better than the rest of the RPGs out there. The truth of the matter is, Final Fantasy is sort of like the iPod--Not necessarily the product with the newest or most cutting edge features, but the slickest, best-produced product. Final Fantasy isn't as popular as it is simply because all Final Fantasy games are the best RPGs ever, Final Fantasy is this popular because Square has the best programmers and designers and composers, all working on making the FF series the most aesthetically pleasing RPGs the world has ever known. Some of us find Final Fantasy to be a little soulless nowadays (I've never quite gotten used to the feel of the post-2D Square RPGs), and I think that's one of the biggest issues the FF series faces now.

With that said, I'll still be buying FFXIII, because it may not be amazing, but at the least it'll be a prettier mess than most other games ;)

how the hell can that work for a hardcore game like FF? it can't. When was the last time on television you heard final fantasy be regarded as "cool". when was the last time you even heard of it? the fanbase is enormous but they don't have much of an influence on one and other like some of you think. What they pressure one and other online to buy the new games? i dont think so.

You can't force yourself through a final fantasy game. They're far too long and demanding. Herd thinking can't work for a game like that. It would a lot more with casual games. I'll give you an example; LOADS of people love kingdom hearts and i can't really connect with that. I tried playing it and i couldn't get into it and that game is less hardcore than your average FF.

same thing can be said with games like phantasy star online and baldurs gate

In what way, i enjoy blue dragon as its back to the good FF days with story telling and turn bassed combat. The story telling of FF died in FF X2, and FF 12 the story was so weak i gave up on the plot and just finished the game because i had purchased it. Not to mention the nast new combat system FF 12 took on.....

From what i have seen LO looks like a solid old school game for fans of the true JRPG genre, same as Blue dragon is, any cow can see that ;)

I was one of the people that said Lost Odyssey reminded me of FF7. It still does. And I still think its a AAA title. I hyped it AA because of GS's harsher review system.

I agree though, this is definitely not a A title. It will be better than that.

FF X was already pretty meh. But that's just my opinion... like basically all of the reviews on Gamespot.
