Consoles are perfetly fine for graphics and resolution, the PC fanboys (Hermits) just overexaggerate things.

Here is the reality: Graphics Comparison - Far Cry 3 - GameSpot.com

See barely any difference, even on ultra. This is how it is for pretty much every game.

Modern Warfare 3 - Xbox 360, Ps3 & PC Comparison ... - YouTube

Elders Scroll's Skyrim - Xbox 360, Ps3 & PC comparison - YouTube

Crysis 2 - PS3 vs Xbox 360 vs PC - Console Comparison ... - IGN

And remember, the best looking game ever made is Uncharted 3. And it's only on consoles (though The Last of Us will replace it as graphics king soon). Same goes for Metal Gear Ground Zeros, it's a console game and it rivals anything on PC.

Lol, FC 3 on console looks like the original Far Cry from 2004.FC 3

Are you stupid or ignorant?

Have you even played Farcry? the game looked nice at the time but damn has aged poorly

I have no idea why someone would play a PC game on low settings, they can look pretty bad.

Planetside 2 on lowest settings

Ballroompirate

Not to play, just for comparrison. Like are PC's really better even at the lowest setting?

Graphics wise lowest setting on some PC games can look pretty bland, gameplay wise it all depends how the game is optimized and if you're online or offline. Planetside 2 and WoW are the only games I've played online with low settings, PLS2 still lagged in big fights while WoW I played on lowest setting back when it first came out during MC, had to turn down the settings cause 40 people in a raid environment back then was killer on PCs. I remember playing The Witcher when it first came out on low setting cause my comp at the time was some crappy Walmart HP.

This is what I'm concerned about. In my experience low settings on PC make the game look very bland and cartoonish, whereas on consoles somehow the developers manage to make it look decent and if you dont look closely then the games even look beautiful from a distance. I dont want to spend close to a grand on a PC next year when the next gen consoles come out and then a few years later I'm stuck playing on low settings that look cartoonish and flat while the cheaper consoles continue looking decent.

It's subjective. PC games on low settings run at higher frame rate and resolution, but console versions usually add effects and details from mid/high settings.

I don't know why one would take YouTube videos as evidence anyhow. They are ridiculously compressed, locked at 30 FPS, and the audio is locked at 192 kbps.

ShadowMoses900

There is nothing wrong with Youtube at all. Watch the videos in HD and you'll have no problems. You're just trying to dismiss it because it destroys your argument entirely.

When you make posts do you try to make yourself look ignorant or does it just come naturally? I know you're probably only trolling but it's not very well done and really does make you look like a dumbass. One day you'll understand. That day will come when you see the difference resolution, AA and AF make to an image. On that day you will cry for all of the pig ignorant posts you've made. ...or maybe I'm just trolling you?

You're images are not accurate, especially Lundy's (not surprising, the guy knows nothing about tech or quality). Clear misrepresentations that you blew up to make look worst. The videos themselves are the accurate portrayls, which shows that PC graphics are overrated.

Deal with it

ShadowMoses900

Ok. Take the same video. Blow it up at a 1080p resolution and take a screencap. Then proceed to upload it to an imaging site in as lossless format as you can get it, and post it here. We'll wait

Keep in mind that this is the exact video you posted

Ok. One of these images from one of the console versions, the other is the PC version. Not going to tell you which. Can you tell me which one is PC?

http://attackofthefanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/elder-scrolls-comparison.jpg

Just like my videos proved, the PC version is hardly any different.

To show extra details, set PC's display to 1080p. Scale Xbox 360's ~720p screenshots to 1080p.

now days it is like 1280x720, mostly low settings and 25-30fps.

back in 2005-2007 was1280x720 mostly high-medium and 25-30fps.

Depends on the game, because sometimes even console games with pretty advanced graphics (for console standards) can still be marred by jaggies. Halo is a great example of this.

But in the end, I don't think people realise how much you can scale down PC graphics.

All I can say is that as a casual gamer I am quite satisfied with my PS3 and Xbox 360's performance, it outputs 720p with a mostly consistent 30fps and looks great too. I haven't been able to compare it with any PC so I would like to know how multiplatform games look on PCs when played on low settings. Do they look as good as games do on the Xbox or PS3? Does it matter whether you have a high end new graphics card or do all GPUs output look about the same when set on low settings?

greengloop

Except it doesn't always output 720p and "mostly consistent" 30fps is debateable.

Console games are tuned by the developer to enable specific effects and to use "tricks" to disguise the limitations of the hardware. PC on low settings won't do this because it's just a matter of directly scaling things by turning things off or on and changing values for things such as how far in the distance objects will be drawn and how much detail will be drawn on them. Console developers will not just set the game engine's settings on low and leave it, they'll tweak things to see how much performance they can keep whilst maintaining a decent look. Things like shadows and lighting are important and have a major impact on how a game looks. If you set a PC game on low, it will look pretty bad but if you then set the lighting a bit higher, it'll look a good bit better. I think most people in these forums don't understand just how demainding a PC game on the highest settings can be. As you go from lowest to highest, there's a steep curve in terms of how hard it pushes the hardware. Even going from 720p to 1080p rendering is a good step up in terms of how much it works the hardware and how much better it looks.

The thing with PS2 is that it lets you lower the rendering detail as well. So it can look very very bad if you set everything to its lowest. PS2 mostly relies on its lighting effects and shadows to look its best.

TBH, the PC version of most games just look nicer. There is usually nothing really big going on about it. It's not what I'd call a big difference by any stretch of the imagination like some would like you to believe. The real advantage, though, is with performance. Faster frames and loading times are really nice to have.

Can't say I blame those who are over exaggerating the PC. I'd want to justify my 1000 dollar or higher purchase too.

Okay you guys are either in denial or really don't know the differences. I have a strong feeling you don't have a decent enough PC to make the comparisons. Soooo, I'm going to work on a good comparison thread to show you that there are some very noticeable and more than negligible differences.

The only obstacle is getting some screenshots of console games taken using a capture device. I sold mines a long time ago so I'll need to find some on the web and create duplicates using the same game and same position on PC.

Also the controls. PC games control better. I have BF3 in both PC and PS3, in PS3 it literally takes around 2 seconds to turn around, while in PC it takes less than half a second. dont even get me started on the petty aim assist that consolites need to play prperly.

saying that is just idiotic. noone is forced at gun point to buy a gaming pc, people that spend that much on a pc see value in it, they want to spend that money. they dont need to justify it lol do you think i was forced to spend 3k on my pc? of course not, I willingly bought it all and its been well worth every pennny

play BF3 maxed out @ 1440p then go play the console version, and try telling me theres not a big difference

I feel a need to say first that I would rather play almost any multiplat game on my PC.

That being said, most computers sold cant even play Crysis never mind looking better then consoles.

The real argument is whether its fair to lump all computers together as "better then consoles." (I have computers that do and computers that dont)

The answer depends on what computer you have.

Thats why theres a market for relatively easy to use consoles right?

DirectX 10 graphics card with 1 GB RAM, Nvidia 400-series or AMD Radeon 5000-series.

The nVidia 400 series is Direct X 11. You're bringing up a point about all computers just because you think it strengthens an argument in the console vs PC debate. If you're a PC gamer, if you buy a PC to play games which are being compared to or are on consoles, you don't buy one that's similar to one you would find in an office or a household and scenario in which it's only being used for general web-browsing and so on.

inb4 loosing ends claiming how The Witcher 2 on 360 looks far better than the PC version on best settings... :P

Console versions are usually a mixture of low and medium PC settings, occasionally with some extra effect here and there. (like colored lighting in the Crysis port or better shadows in The Witcher 2 port.)

They used to be competitive to high-end PCs but that was years ago.

noobmuhaha

They were never competitive with pc. call of duty 2 launch title was piss poor graphically compared to pc and supported 8 players vs 64 on pc,.

But then you had something like Gears of War 1 which looked better than any PC game at the time (sans maybe for Oblivion).

(Note when I say "better-looking" I actually mean "more advanced effects".)

noobmuhaha

Actually, they look the same on the same res and lowest PC setting. I remember comparing some screenshots of Crysis 2 with Loosey. I was able to replicate the 360 appearance on the PC (lots of blur beyond the immediate crosshairs). Crytek kept the lighting intact across platforms. They did the skimping on the level of detail farther out. Of course, even the PC version on DX9 on Extreme looks noticably better.

if they were running on the same screen? probably the consoles, the one thing I realized about gaming on TV's is TV's aren't nearly as high in quality as a 24" monitor. A 40" 1080p screen is stretched compared to the 24", and consoles aren't entirely on low settings, they usually have a lot of the medium settings turned on with low texture resolutions.savagetwinkie
A good plasma set has a better image than a 24inch monitor, especially for games.

You really believe 4 screencaps from a terribly compressed online video is proof of something?

He posted from the same source, and it's not terribly compressed. It's not youtube, it's a video done by eurogamer to compare the graphics at similar resolutions.

Those screencaps tell me nothing. All I can see is blur, how can you make a judgement off that ?

And 'he did it too' is not that great of an argument.

Nice cherrypicked anti-pc shots. Check out the difference in draw distance, shadows, lighting and textures in these. The trees on console look awful btw. Horrendous popup on console as well. ffff
