RROD comes with a 3 year warranty, however, any other problem is only covered for One Year.

With E-74 (And other E-series Errors, but E-74 being the most popular) crippling the Xbox 360, I am starting to think that M$ may have fixed one problem better (RROD) but replaced it with another system Crippler that is only covered for One Year.

The issue is VERY similar to the RROD phenom. The problem has to due with the extreme heat generated by the 360, and the Heatsink not working well enough, The Motherboard in the 360, warps due to the temperature. M$ placed Two Xclamps in the 360 knowing the heat may due this, but even that measure wasn't enough. The heat warps the board enough to disconnect the GPU, or the ANA upscaler chip. In either case, only ONE RED light flashes on your system, and it's on the bottom corner.

The 360 will be just as crippled as the RROD, but you only have a One Year warranty.

I have 2 friends that got hit with this, and I experienced about 3 months ago.

Both friends got hit in the 1 1/2 year - 2 year mark. When you call M$ about it, it costs $100 to fix.

What say you?

-------------------------

For those that don't know, RROD is the worst console manufacturing problem in the history of consoles, so bad in fact that retailers like Best Buy and Gamestop temporarily stopped selling warranties for the 360. This had never happened before. There is also a HUGE issue in Australia due to the problem, that has made the news.

-------------------------

I found this Link very relevant, the Graph is for E74, not RROD. It's the lastest news from Joystiq.

-------------------------

Here is the latest E74 news from Yahoo, March 2009.

-------------------------

For those worried that RROD is GONE, here's is a March 2009 Video of the lastest JASPER RE5 360.

I think they did good to add 3 years to the most common problem (RROD), but IMO any Red Ring error should have 3 years warranty.

I experienced E-74, but I managed to fix it (didn't wanna pay for repair) but it's only a temporary fix, now it's dead with RROD and all I have is RROD 360 with voided warranty.

E-errors = Exageration-errors...meaning you play too much and overusing the cheap hardware!

The Research I've done on it is a few issues. It could be the corrupted HDD, which is good, because it's an easy fix.Replace the HDD, but you lose your Saves.

Usually, the problem is The Ana Upscaler chip, or problem with the GPU. The heat of the Xbox, warps the motherboard, causing these issues.

The Red light in the bottom corner flashes, and it cripples the system like RROD would.

Is that how I fixed the E74? No.

But yeah, I got RROD and overheating gave me a few days. But now it's just completely dead.

Something to do with the GPU and bad heat sink I believe.

so it's a hardware problem just like RROD?

WTH....Why didn't they include it in the 3 year warranty program then? wow that is very low imo. Seems like they use different codes (ther red lights) just to avoid fixing stuff for free..

I have had 3 RRoDs, and every friend I know IRL has had at least one RRoD. I can safely say I have never saw anyone IRL with an E-error, and to be honest, I've only heard it mentioned a few times even here.

So to me, RRoD is still the significant issue.

I doubt MS fixed either of them, they knew it was a broken console and went ahead and launched anyway, they hope the die shrinks help but they don't really care as long as they're beating the PS3.

Yes, just like RROD.

However, the key is it's not covered for the 3 years like RROD. That's why I bring it up, you would think it would be.

In fact, M$ charges $100 to fix it.(if after one year, which in the cases I've mentioned happend at the 2 year mark)

However, this is a good post :

That's what many users should do, otherwise it's a cool $100 to fix.

Towel it up, turn it on, and place it upside down. Let it run overnight. You should have a RRoD issue by morning.

true, but I agree with EuroMafia. Every red light error should be included with the warranty imo

It's not our fault that we bought a product with faulty hardware after all. It's bad hardware design, they are responsible for that.

Businesses don't do things out of the kindness of their heart. They do things like the 3 year warranty to save themselves lawsuits.

There was no impending lawsuit over these errors, hence they will do nothing. Same as Sony with the DREs that they refused to admit to until they lost a lawsuit.

Its not cool, and it sucks for us consumers, but its not unexpected. Unless MS faces litigation or massive fallout, they won't care.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or what. The problem stuck with me and SO MANY OTHERS.Please don't speak about what you simply don't know.

I have had it EVERY XMAS after launch 2005 (I bought Two 360's in 2005, and got RROD 2006,2007 and now 2008 ). My HALO model just fell to RROD. Read my Blog.

ah bugger this is why i hate leaving it switched on over night and such for downloads to finish because of fear of over heating, (its also on top of my sky hd box which i dont think does it any good).

My experience is if you complain enough ask to speak to the manager then complain to them (maybe add a compliment you know give them sugar before the salt) and say "this is a known problem, nothing that i have physically done to the machine except use it" and they usually yeild they do to me. Though saying that im on my 5th premium (3RROD and 1 replacement i got scratched my discs) so i just play that card and say its appauling

No because once it starts overheating it will turn itself off. So I couldn't leave it overheating over night, and frankly I don't wanna risk starting a house fire as I sleep.

I even tried always turning it back on all thetime it wouldn't budge, that's why I fixed the E74by opening it up, because I couldn't get RROD.

I thought you were talking about E-74. There is still RROD possibilities and when it does happen with a new console... People on here act like it's the end of the world.

I had RROD in Feb of 2008 and got my 360 fix... Got my same 360 back. Played it more this year then the whole time I had it in 2006 and 2007 combined. It's still going strong.

yeah you're right about that.

Everyone that had this should sue them. What a shame though, the 360 is such a great console...

One thing you would have to give to Nintendo is they would not charge for any of the repairs of their systems. From errors like this. I had a friend who anytime he downloaded a VC game it was in black and white. The whole game would play in black and white. Well normal retail games worked normally. He said when calling them he was the first they had with this error but they fixed for free.

Did he have to send it away? I don't like that process, but I agree, Nintendo's N64, GC, and Wii were magnificent in reliability.

Sony's PSP, and to a greater extent, the PS3 are the only well made Sony console machines (The PSOne and PSTwo, but not the PSX and original PS2).

Strange error, I would have deleted the game, and redownloaded it before I sent it away though, I hate the idea of a system bouncing around in a box.

Yes he had to send it away. He also did try the redownload the game. He worked with Nintendo trying things for a couple of hours before they said to send it.

It's BOTH the CPU and GPU!

I read that liquid cooling works great, but I don't think We CONSUMERS should have to put that in for M$.

It's BOTH the CPU and GPU!

I read that liquid cooling works great, but I don't think We CONSUMERS should have to put that in for M$.

Ebay. They sell dirt cheap there. Great for experimenters and people willing to fix them.

At the very least, cover any Red Light E-series error, like E-74 for 3 years. The Problem is the hardware, like RROD.

bu bu bu teh jasper chipzzzz wil teh fix eveytingzzz

Truth_Hurts_U

This best describes Lemmings.

Actually it describes people that don't know what they are talking about.

well hey this is exactly what all the lemmings told me. that the jasper chip will fix rrod and the xbox360 will not have any more failures.

i asked for proof many times to show me where there is data or stats which show that the rrod will be fixed but everytime i got ignored or ppl changed the subject around.

ive heard it all before....chip (x) will fix rrod. chip (y) will fix rrod. chip (z) will fix rrod.

Wow, just when RROD seemed to be a thing of the past. This is crazy, why is it suddenly so hard to make a reliable console? I've had 3 RROD'd 360's and now a disc drive failure in the PS3. Both Microsoft and Sony have a ton of money and resources, it's utterly embarassing for them to be having so many problems like this.

I am SO glad I never bought one of those wastes of space!
