Man spends hours swimming to island in game. Finds nothing.

Just curious because I'm fairly unfamiliar with the game... but does DayZ have an unpopular reputation with the gaming community?? I've kind of been out of the loop on this game and mostly only ever heard bits and pieces about the game on podcasts.

What is so sad about this to you people? did you never have that exploration spirit as a gamer? or have the majority of shallow games in the last decade made you numb?

He could of easily watched TV or done something else while doing it....

new gamers are the joke, some of us remember the desert in breath of fire 3 where we walked for 10 hours + and we didnt find anything cause of the wrong directions.some of us didnt even know english back then and couldnt even read the damn note.

its funny that a 4 hour trip in a video game makes this kind of noise while many of us searched all of azeroth in wow vanilla...

TBH, sounds like something I would have done back in the day :P I hate when I go way out of my way on a map thinking, I bet the dev hid something over there only to come up completely empty grrrrrr, I always think to myself, WTF, why make that part of the map when it has zero use in the game if your not going to hide something sweet there. :)

I remember spending HOURS just trying to see what was beyond the walls of Spiral Mountain on Banjo Kazooie or Trying to get to the Roof of Peach's Castle without all of the Star Coins in Super Mario 64 DS.

It doesn't matter what you're doing in the game, what matters is if you're having fun.

Point was, it seems a bit ridiculous to tell gamers enjoying a game (even pointless activities within them) to "get a life" when folks like you and I spend hours per week on a silly game forum. Considering what we do, isn't it hypocritical to be judging what others do with their free time?

This isn't my free time ( I spend time with my wife & daughter and game when I can in my free time )...I hardly come on the game forums when I am at home. I come here in between projects at work to kill time and to see what's new in the gaming world.

And I will never swim for 4 hours in a game for no reason.

I always find these comments amusing. Accumulate all of the time you've spent on SW and apply it to yourself or the amount of time you've spent gaming, let alone making the assumption of another person and effectively saying what they're doing with THEIR time is wrong or socially unacceptable. I think coming to a gaming forum and discussing games with other humans and seeing what's new with your favorite system or systems is very different than a person who chooses to swim for 4 hours in a game when there is probably actual things to accomplish within that game. That person HAS to be very very bored to try something like that.

Where do we draw the line for how long we repeat movement in a videogame?

For example, in the start of the gen, I could see myself walking through deserts for less than an hour.

I'm not saying it's any different now, but I think this is more of a study group thing which could lead to better gaming experiences.

My gaming time is limited with work and family....so I would not spend much time swimming or walking through a desert. If a game makes me walk through a desert aimlessly with no enemies or goals then I will would figure the game is a joke and has no pacing and would throw it out and move on to a game that is fun.

For instance I just completed Wolfenstein: New Order....it took me 14 to 16 hours to finish on normal but in actuality it took me 2 weeks to get that time in. So the game better be good ( and it was ).

Okay I'll tell you what I did last night except the X-rated stuff.

I worked for 9 hours then I went home kissed my wife & baby, fed my dogs and worked out.....after my workout I played with my 4 month old baby girl until she took a quick nap, ate dinner, helped my wife give my lil girl a bath before bed. Then I finally had my chance to play some Walking Dead Season 2 for about an hour before bed.
