they're good games. I think what you meant to say is Mario is over USED. Core Mario games are the best in the biz, spinoff or licensed games featuring Mario are usually of high quality also. You can hate to hate but to say Mario is over rated is kinda silly.

As if I needed to be any more clear.....

No one here (got it?) calls Halo: CE overrated unless someone calls it the god of console FPS or something stupid like that.

Silverbond

First you say no one, now you say no one in this forum and after i give you a link of people saying it is over rated on gamespot what are you going to say?

PRT-CCM gave a link. :|

What are you talking about?

I read your reply first.

I know right, The Paper Mario series, Mario & Luigi Trilogy,Super Mario 64, NSMB, and Super Mario Galaxy were such horrible abominations.

Congratulations, you mentioned 5 Mario games, out of over-200!

The Paper Mario series include 3 games, as does the Mario & Luigi Trilogy.

And there's been over 200 Mario games since the SNES days? Care to back that up?

What he meant by the statement, is that there are ALOT.

Oh I know what he meant, but it doesn't prevent his argument drom being weak. Instead of actually, I dunno, giving a decent argumemt on why he think the series is overrated, or explain titles that prove his point, he just pulls a random number from his butt.

Overrated and milked are two different things. Having a large amount of titles does not make a series overrated.:|

Also A little thing I liked to point out, come next year the 6th Halo game will be out. Still not a lot, but I noticed you decided to ignore Halo's spin offs. If that's the case, there's only been 15 actual mario games in the past 28 years.

wow, TC actually took the devaition of topic from another thread and made his own. glad you're actually using the subjective stance for the most part (though you failed to reply to the last things I stated on the significance of the franchise to the industry). however, if you're talking about the main installments you will be in the minority simply because such a statement is rather outlandish. the amount of joy mario has brought to gamers with the main installments and less game centric audiences with his various (though admittedly too frequent) spinoffs cannot be denied. there obviously is still magic there if critics who've played thousands of games over the decade and managed to make a professional career in such, and gamers who've likely played just as much, can still find reason to praise it and in the masses.

I understand this isnt going to change your mind quality wise, you've made your stance on what your gaming tastes are. Still, I hope based on the other topic we've debated in earlier it can at least be acknowledged that there is great significance to this franchise industry wise, regarldess of taste.

Not really. Basically, every Nintendo game (almost) has been Mario games or about Mario, because they lack imagination.

There are no new IPs from Nintendo recently to start a franchise, because all they think is Mario and Zelda.

Bungie has only produced 3 main Halo games, and 1 expansion. The reason for the fact that an RTS Halo was released was because the Halo universe is so huge, that it can transform into other genres and other sort of media.

Nintendo has produced so many Mario games not because Mario is a huge 'world', or something, but because they can't think of anything else, lacking any sort of imagination that could ever be there.

That's why the majority of Mario games tend to suck big time, while all Bungie-produced Halo games have received AAA-status and been million-selling games.

Any Mario RPG.

Those aren't made by Nintendo either. And either way every Mario RPG has gotten a 9 or more here (Unless you count Super Paper Mario).

1. Every topic is based on information, be it on a thread, a book etc. 2. I didn't even respond to the rest, because you were comparing sonic to mario and that is not what this is about. 3. The series is based on other concepts previously used, they were done well in the first few, but the 2d to 3d was average at best and then it was milking like crazy.

So first you say there's 200 Mario games and now you say he's appeared in 200. There is a huge difference.

Not really. Basically, every Nintendo game (almost) has been Mario games or about Mario, because they lack imagination.

There are no new IPs from Nintendo recently to start a franchise, because all they think is Mario and Zelda.

now I know you havent actually played much of the installments for etiher mario or zelda. the transition from 2D, to 3D, to galaxy is alot more of a differance than you probably realise. and you should know how very different each zelda is (with exception to oot and tp which were very identical) and considering all the characters seen in smash have franchises with entries at least in the Gamecube/ga era (pit aside) era... I fail to see how all they think is mario and zelda. clearly you either have an unwarranted bias or are very misinformed, bordering on complete ignorance to what you're talking about. you should know gameplay and originality extends beyond what avatar the main character happens programmed with.

now I know you havent actually played much of the installments for etiher mario or zelda. the transition from 2D, to 3D, to galaxy is alot more of a differance than you probably realise. and you should know how very different each zelda is (with exception to oot and tp which were very identical) and considering all the characters seen in smash have franchises with entries at least in the Gamecube/ga era (pit aside) era... I fail to see how all they think is mario and zelda. clearly you either have an unwarranted bias or are very misinformed, bordering on complete ignorance to what you're talking about. you should know gameplay and originality extends beyond what avatar the main character happens programmed with.JetLag123
omg do i have to say this again hyperbole: A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect,

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"][QUOTE="alskdjfhg1"][QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"] We're on Gamerankings? Coulda sworn my URL said Gamespot. Man, I've really discovered a lot today.

Yes, but Gamespot is not the only site on the internet.

:o I'm learning more by the minute! But no, you're in Gamespot's System Wars. Like it or not, it doesn't matter what a different site said when you're here.

System Wars has no rules, anything goes. I am using the hyperbole you see...

Except SW does have rules and one of them is that GS is the only site we use here.

It has no rules, so we made a thread called "System Wars Rules" as a joke? I think I'm done here..

wow, TC actually took the devaition of topic from another thread and made his own. glad you're actually using the subjective stance for the most part (though you failed to reply to the last things I stated on the significance of the franchise to the industry). however, if you're talking about the main installments you will be in the minority simply because such a statement is rather outlandish. the amount of joy mario has brought to gamers with the main installments and less game centric audiences with his various (though admittedly too frequent) spinoffs cannot be denied. there obviously is still magic there if critics who've played thousands of games over the decade and managed to make a professional career in such, and gamers who've likely played just as much, can still find reason to praise it and in the masses.

I understand this isnt going to change your mind quality wise, you've made your stance on what your gaming tastes are. Still, I hope based on the other topic we've debated in earlier it can at least be acknowledged that there is great significance to this franchise industry wise, regarldess of taste.

alskdjfhg1

I didnt throw sonic into any of my arguments, I think you have me confused with someone else in that regard. also the game you were using to compare it with was nothing like mario games, but surely qualified as being in the genre which I can acknowledge. again, your personal taste on how well they were used is subjective but the mimicking from other devs of those new concepts post what you consider "average" shows quite a bit of industry influence as was the point of our debate in the previous topic. they milk the character mario yes. but again, the main installments pretty much stand on their own according to many experienced gamers. I would love to hear the specific reasons why the main installments past 3D were terrible reletive to their time. Im not looking for hostility, but what about their design and mechanics irked you the wrong way?

obvious and intentional exaggeration. is not the same as: not true or correct; erroneous or a false statement. youre not using hyperbole youre just stating false statements

I kind of see where your going with your comment but then again a lot of games are overrated. I never found Fallout 3, any MMO's, Killzone 2, Halo and many more any fun either. It's all opinions dude.

I dont recall reading anything from you on hyperoble so you'll have to forgive me whatever problem it is you have with these arguements. I personally dont see the point of using it in this discussion, considering the usual blindness associate with sw posters it was not immediatly apparent.

Ok, then. Name 5 bad Mario games made by Nintendo.

Super Mario 64,Super Mario Sunshine,New Super mario Bros,SMG and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games are very mediocre at best.

If you consider those games mediocre , than what classifies as a good game in your world, something like Big Rigs?

Oh, and just to let you know, Mario and Sonic Olympic games were developed by Sega.
