Mario losing to TES at the polls, sign of losing appeal among gamers?

So I went here and noticed that mario is losing to TES, not by a small amount but by a landslide. Then I was wondering why was there such a disparity, clearly you'd think such a contest would be much more equal in terms of votes. Is it that mario is just losing it's appeal among gamers? Or is TES just that good?

Anyways TES is a boring franchise.

Online fanbases =/= real-world representations of actual fanbases.

It's not just Gamespot. Amazon customers would take Skyrim over SMG1/2.

Mario lost his appeal to me a decade ago. Nintendo has just whored him out to insane levels, way beyond any other franchise.

Even "new" super mario isnt new anymore. Super mario bros, new super mario bros 2, new super mario bros wii, new super mario bros wiiu, new super mario luigi. Everything nintendo does is always just more of the same old shit over and over and over again.

Well Mario is narrowly beating Vivi on the GameFAQ character poll so maybe? While I don't trust online polls because it seems pretty easy to ballot stuff, I did find the breakdown of which country voted which character interesting. Europe seems to have moved pass the Mario phase (or maybe they were never into Mario in the first place) while the USA and Asia aren't the Mario fortress they used to be. I remember when Mario would win like 80% of the votes on previous GameFAQ polls.

Forum appeal is not equal to worldwide appeal. Mario is more popular than TES in the real world.

This whole poll doesn't even make sense though. They put in franchises that were made long ago but didn't put in a huge series like pokemon.

They also didn't even explain what you're voting for. For example if I choose Fallout, does that include Fallout and Fallout 2?

Only in a world where every gamer visited Gamespot, and voted in the poll, might that happen.

As it stands the Elder Scrolls audience is more the same type of audience of gamers who frequents gaming sites, and participates in online polls. It doesn't have anything to do with game popularity.

Games will win, or lose based simply on how much of a presence their fanbases have online.

I agree the New Super Mario games have gotten dull but Galaxy 1 and 2 are masterpeices in my opinion

Most games are better than GoW tbh.  But its one of the more simple games in its genre and it has excellent visuals, so its a shoe in for the main stream.
